    I have been 3d modeling since 1995. I have seen most everything imaginable. Thank you for this video. I will download a copy of this directly and hope to see more from you in the future. In wondering which direction I should go to reach my next level, perhaps I should look to the sky. It appears to me that everything on the ground has been done already.

    Very interesting. I managed to make a model of our local church just from stills I already had taken using my P3Pro.
    Thank you for putting up such an informative video. I'm chuffed to have made something really good after watching it.
    Well done.

    Hello, I have a rather urgent question. I performed a "low" quality treatment (cloud, alignment...etc). If I want to switch to "high" quality, is there a way to reuse the work done in low quality to reduce the working time or do I have to redo everything from the beginning in high quality?
    Thanks.

    Hi. Drone Minds. How to determine the number of pictures to be taken based on the distance or time? or there is a setting that must be done before the flight. thank you

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      +Syafruddin Rauf Usually just set the camera on 5 second intervals and circle around and fly above pointing down etc. For best results you want each photo to overlap by 70 or 80 %, but 50% overlap works well too. Obviously if you are closer you will get more detail. I don't really have any special formulas though, just try to photograph every angle.

    Please zoom in from ground perspective on your models so we can see what it would look like from a pedestrians point of view. for all we know, your trees and rocks and such, could of been squished from lack of photos from a lower point of view. Details like this are essential for new comers to understand what is needed for a first trial run.

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  9 лет назад

      +The WHITE WOLFF Thank you for your comments. There are more details explained via the link in description, and the video does say you would need a lot more photos than used there. We have had someone on the forum ask advice for their own model, send us files even, then improved their model from given advice. It's always hard to figure out how much to put in a tutorial video. May do another with more details like you say.

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  9 лет назад

      +Harold Mejia Thanks. You can't do contours with Agisoft, you need something like Quantum-GIS, or other GIS software. Acute3D does a little better at trees and stuff, but it's quite expensive for full versions. Other than that you can try taking more pictures, and using GCPs, ground control points, the RTK (real time kinetic) GPS devices - but some of those are hugely expensive.

  • @jonah7732
    @jonah7732 6 лет назад

    I really admire what you did. Can I export the models to other software for further analysis? Say, overlaying with DEM, digitizing to calculate the degree or extent of the affected area, and soon. Hope to hear you soon. thnx....

  • @carlosfdz1579
    @carlosfdz1579 8 лет назад +1

    and other thing that i forgot, how accurate is the 3d model?? whats the difference between the real distances and the ones in the 3d model????

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      +Carlos Fdz I think it's meter accuracy rathar than cm. You'd have to do a test and see. For super accuracy you really need RTK (Real Time Kinetics) GPS and ground control points. There are some near RTK systems for drones being developed, but might have to wait a year or two for them to appear on DJI products.

    Hi, i am quite curious about Aerial survey.
    I found in lots of website that the DJI drones are used specifically for surveillance or filming.
    Can we use them for surveying also or you have some additional lenses for 3D imaging..

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  9 лет назад

      +MOHIT BAUNTHIYAL What type of surveying? You can't add additional lenses to the Phantom 3, but you can with the Inspire 1, which also has thermal imaging setups available. Or if you want LIDAR you would need a DJI S1000 or S900 (or a frame and setup by a different company) with a third party LIDAR system.

    • @DroneMinds

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      You would probably have to get a geologger device to put on your drone, the synch the data with your photos. You can make a map without gps data though if it doesn't need to be accurately placed.

      +Pablo Gabriel Waisgold To be honest we haven't really tried anything other than DJI's built in waypoints etc. You could do it just using those? Some of the third party apps are having issues at the moment with the failsafe return to home function, so you would have to be careful with them. We did download this one but haven't tried it yet: autoflightlogic.com/

    Great video Johnathan - very informative. Agisoft appears to work great with the Phantom 3 camera. I am flying a P2V+ with the stock wide angle lens - been researching on the Agisoft website & believe that it can still work & produce a pretty good 3D rendering - also camera 'slighty' tilted from straight down? your thoughts before I go out & actually try it?
    Thanks

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      Thanks - do I need to flatten images before putting them in Agisoft?
      I plan to shoot jpegs as RAW just takes too Damn long & the jpegs are still 14megs........?

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      Not sure? You can try it on the lowest quality setting first. It's really quick that way and you can see if it works. It does allow for the type of lens used if it's in the exif info.

    do you know if i can do this with an DJI Mavic PRO, i a need a special camera?

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, it should be fine. You don't need a special camera, but it helps if the drone geotags the images for you, which it does.

    Based on your experience, what is the higest accuracy you got from your models?

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      +H. Ali Khater what do you mean by highest accuracy? Do you mean the way they look or real life measurements compared to the model?

    • @h.alikhater3442
      @h.alikhater3442 8 лет назад

      Real life measurements compared to the model.
      Thank you,

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  8 лет назад

      +H. Ali Khater with the dji p3 it's probably within half a meter, at a guess. You need ground control points for super accuracy.

    How does it calculate where there images should properly go?

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  7 лет назад

      Each image has information embedded inside it, including altitude(elevation), longitude, and latitude.

  • @thedave7760
    @thedave7760 9 лет назад

    Would it not be better to record video in 4k and perhaps do a circuit around the object with DJI POI function?
    You could then export as many stills as you need to keep improving the model.

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  9 лет назад

      not really, you can use frames from video but still images are geotagged and have elevation info which helps align the pictures. Using point of intetest and auto shooting images works really well though. POI wasn't available when I did this video.

    • @thedave7760
      @thedave7760 9 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your reply. I am shooting my first 3D (non commercial) in a couple of days so I need to get my head around this process a bit more and your video was very helpful.
      We are trying to 3d map a hill that was once an old mine so we can map out where the old mines shafts are.
      Is there no way of using the dji flight log data to determine the altitude and position? Even if not in poi mode i would just keep the same altitude the whole time?

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  9 лет назад

      I don't really understand why you don't want to use photographs?

    • @thedave7760
      @thedave7760 9 лет назад

      Ok good point. Probably because my background is from a tv and film camera history all my life, but also because I thought it would work better that way with the software. I thought it would be easier to shoot for this process like this because you can just shoot a poi circuit and decide which pictures would be best for the software when you get back to the computer rather than having to decide on the ground when shooting.
      does that make any sense?

    • @thedave7760
      @thedave7760 9 лет назад

      I will happily throw these ideas of mine out if you think it is much easier to just use stills.

    • @DroneMinds
      @DroneMinds  7 лет назад

      It's up to you. You can make the photos look nicer easier with raw, but then it will take you a lot longer. You can't use raw directly in agisoft, so you will have to convert them the jpg first. Personally I always shoot everything in raw, but you don't have to.

    • @eurograficafranciacorta
      @eurograficafranciacorta 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the answer, i tried and dg agisoft photoscan files me accept them without problems so if i do not mind the problem of having to convert them every time you say that it has dimlogic rigor you should use the dng? N as done i use a tyhoon q500 4k

      Autocad will also translate DXF (point clouds/mesh). DXF is actually native Autocad format.
