I never slept more than 6 hours a night, even as a kid, in a adulthood, the same, when I retired 11 years ago, I decided I would try to sleep more, because listening to a lot of talk about the need for at least 8 hours, all I accomplished was to get more anxious about sleep and got worse. Today at 68, I don’t worry about sleep anymore, I go to bed at the same time every day, exactly at 10 and wake up at 4, stay in bed for a guided meditation for another hour or two, sometimes I fall back to sleep, sometimes I don’t, get up and go for a 20 minute walk, and I stay active all day long, take a hot shower at 8:30 at night, put my orange glasses and read for about 45 minutes, and go to sleep, I do this every day with no exceptions. I take no naps, I don’t feel tired at no point during the day. I have accepted that, for me that’s the right amount of sleep, and don’t ruminate about it. I have to mention that the last time I got sick with a cold was the winter of 2005. Then again, I do eat very healthy and exercise regularly. But that’s me every one is different.
Ask me! I hardly slept 6 hours my entire life! I am nearly 50, and I don't usually feel tired in the mornings. Sometimes, due to medications, I woke up a few times to pee some times! But I try not to stress too much about it! I go to bed early, finish dinner by 6-7pm. I eat breakfast at lunch, and I don't eat ultra processed foods. Everyone thinks I look way younger for my age and I never had covid even though I worked with people as a front liner. So, each to their own ! When I bump onto SLEEP videos I try to learn if anything else could help me sleep a bit deeper.
So I do all of these things, but what really improved me to sleep thru the night without waking up as a 52 year old menopausal woman- was when I purchased a 100% French linen duvet cover and linen sheets. I haven’t slept thru the night without at least waking up to pee in years! I believe it’s because I don’t get too hot or too cold and they’re just so cozy! ❤ worth every penny. I put them in my guest room as well and my houseguests said they had the best sleep of their lives! And they’ve been here before when I didn’t have them on the bed and they never mentioned sleeping well. ❤😊

These are very informative videos. I just listened to the one on magnesium deficiency and which forms are used for deferent purposes which I recommend watching. A number of years ago I suffered from restless leg syndrome which made it impossible to sleep. I would experience convulsive rhythmic nerve impulses from the back of my legs through my spine to my head. I began taking a magnesium glycinate supplement and have not experienced these events since. I believe this is related to the depolarizing role that magnesium has in muscle contraction.
There is no evidence of a feedback loop with melatonin. It is not just produced in the pineal gland, but also in the mitochondria. Our bodies produce less and less intracellular melatonin with age. Mitochondria dysfunction can also affect intracellular melatonin levels. I encourage everyone to research high dose melatonin protocols. It's completely changed my life. I feel 20 years younger.
@justinjones2634 probably go back to feeling less energetic and lose some of the protective properties. Your body continues to produce less melatonin with age, regardless of supplementation. Supplementing doesn't exacerbate that fact. What happens if you quit taking any supplement?
The soup and salad switch probably did you wonders as well. I think that needs to be acknowledged. Meat stock and soup are very soothing to the gut lining. 👍
Recently I have found that taking magnesium before bed causes heart palpitations, hypnic jerks and insomnia. I took magnesium Calm powder for years and I slept great but now I can’t. I read that taking magnesium if you don’t need it could possibly cause an imbalance in zinc, potassium and calcium. Some nights I can’t fall asleep at all. Insomnia is torturous.

And i also take magnesium 200gram morning and 200gr evening to help sleep. I also eat 3-5hours before bed. The most important thing is consistency and discipline

Two issues for this 77 year old: tiny bladder, so some nights is wake up several times to pee. So ends deep sleep after the first awakening.
Number 2 is that if I'm in afib, the best I can hope for I'd mostly light sleep since my stress reaction is not in parasympathetic restful state.
I'm probably going to bed way later than I should since I'm married to a vampire who stays up until 3:30 am, and doesn't come downstairs until 1 pm or later. Frustrating. Last night, we watched a movie and I got to bed just before midnight. Ugh.
We wake up to dump salts and sugar.
Spending more time in bed for an insomniac is counter productive.
Just sleep on the floor! Solves everything.
My floor is in the high 50's. I would be hipothermic😂
And then there's me maybe 5 hours a night and that's cut up 😭
Less talk pls. Go directly
You can’t just fall asleep longer like a light switch …
