  • The dreaded P1399 and flashing engine light. This applies to all 90-01 civic, del sol, Integra, accord, prelude, s2000 that require valve adjustments. Most of these vehicles do not get their valve adjusted often enough resulting in a burnt valve. If you are experiencing a rough idle and flashing check engine light do a compression test FIRST. Chances are it’s too late for a valve lash but don’t be intimidated! Anyone can do this with basic tools and only cost roughly $350 instead of thousands for a cylinder head replacement/valve job. Then with the tools and knowledge, you know how to help your Honda buddies also save money and keep these cars from getting crushed possibly

    Things you will need:
    Compression tester $40
B20/b18 non vtec valve spring compressor $85
    Valve lapping compound $5
    Valve lapping rubber/wood tool $5
    Headgasket kit $100
Torque wrench (can be rented from auto parts store)
Recommend doing timing belt, water pump, and replacing valve stem seals since you’re in there.
After this no more flashing check engine light, returned to normal fuel economy, and the engine is good to go for 100k easy if you keep up with valve adjustment!
