    Mr. Phillips is legendary and truly one of the greatest drummers alive. The way he plays left or right leads and fills are only one of his secret weapons. Everything he does looks effortless. It was in the early 90's when I started following this talented dude. Always musical and fun to watch. No wonder he has filled in for some of our most legendary drummers that are no longer with us. Whenever I see a Simon Phillips video I have to watch no matter how old. Plus he is a great teacher and gives superb tuning advice. Also love his tasteful use of dynamics. I forget how entertaining he is as a speaker too.

    I saw this clinic tour at the Channel in Boston, I remember my local drum store guy being so frustrated because Simon was throwing RAWK STAR attitude about the stage and setup, and Joey Kramer rolling up in a 911 and Jonathan Mover in a yellow Corvette. Good times!

    Simon is incredible. I am in absolute awe when he switches hands so fluidly on the hi-hat at 50:13...a stunning display of independence and blazing speed. I've never seen anything quite like it.
    Has anyone ever done that before? If so, please post examples that are youtube, I'd love to watch them.

      Billy Cobham is a fantastic ambidextrous player: ruclips.net/video/KUNtaGMZyM0/видео.html&ab_channel=DavidV.

      He has just copied Billy Cobham.... Cobham is the best fusion drummer !¡

    • @jeanounou
      @jeanounou 5 лет назад +4

      @@jojoremeny Copied, man, really?! SP is a massive great player in his own right, and deserved better than "just copied". That said, some of his technique was inspired by Billy Cobham, yes, he says so himself, and credits him at around 26:45.

    • @secretariat224
      @secretariat224 4 года назад

      Thanks for the replies, except for the disrespectful "copied" comment; it serves no purpose. Thumb down for that. I guess what I was really asking for is whether anyone has ever seen the technique in switching hands so quickly in that particular way on the hi-hat and cymbal. It is incredible to watch.
