I have one Golden Comet. She has laid an impossible number of eggs in her 4 year old life. In her first year she got egg bound along with a vent infection, and a sour crop. I took her to a vet that treated chickens and I nursed her for 4 weeks. I am elderly and good at it. She recovered and has given me a ridiculous number of eggs since. Two of those years she only took 2 days off. This season she has slowed down to 5 a week with 2 of the eggs pointy. I will allow her to retire gracefully and live out her life with my deepest respect and gratitude.

This was beautiful 🥲 I have a 5 day old golden comet chick that I cannot wait to see grow and flourish! Her name is Marigold and she’s so cute and energetic!

I have a 6 month old GC hen, has been laying for a month including several double yolks. Somehow she was very injured in the run. I blamed the rooster but the injury is almost 4 inches long and horizontal so now we suspect she got stuck under one of the coop doors. She is picked on my the other hens, particularly the Ancona. I treated and cleaned the wound for over a week and when I saw her dust bathing with grit in the wound... we went to the vet. Ended up she was incredibly infected, the wound much deeper than we realized. Long story... she is recovering from a $300 surgery to clean out and close that hound. She is in an e-collar and has a drain. And why att this medical attention... because this little bird is absolutely sweet and adorable, I "love" her!

    SOOOO... This happened:
    I have a flock of about 😊 17 chickens ( including 2 Turkeys).
In that flock is a "He-Doesn't-know-
he's-small" SILKIE Rooster , and his lady , a Blue Spash Silkie.
So my Silkie Rooster managed to violate my disabled Golden Comet "Little-One", ( She was born with a bad leg and can only hop on one leg and uses a bad leg for balance. She cannot fly either...
I fed her every two hours by hand when she was a little...
We did not think she was going to make it) anyway , I saved a couple of her eggs for a few days after he got to her , And out of curiosity put them in my incubator in the house... The egg hatched today. I am ecstatic and excited and very very curious to see what this precious little one grows up to look like... so far even in the incubator at 1 hour old. I can tell it has 4 toes but it has the large eyes of the Partridge Silkie dad. And a slightly curved beak like its father but it has the colorings of Little One, the golden comet.
So Do you have any opinion or ideas thank you so much😊😊

I adore my comets. Sweet, gentle, friendly, and the best egg layer we have ever had.

Nice channel. Been raising hens for about ten years now, enjoy the hobby alot. I picked up a few in March and they've been paying every day since August. They are definitely great layers. It's too bad they dont last as long as other breeds. They are a very friendly bird for sure. Thank you for all the info you provide

Just acquired 2 young hens. Thank you for doing a spot on this variety. Helped me identify as from feed store. It would be extremely helpful if you would add chick colors to the content. I have a variety of youngsters. I know what most are, the hybrids throwing me off.

Great video but I have found Orpingtons are aggressive towards more docile birds, and have heard the same about Barred Plymouth Rock. If I had one type of chicken I would have Orpingtons, but since I have a mixed flock I can't keep them.

I have 8 chickens, with 2 being golden comet hens. They are the two meanest out of the whole flock and almost killed one of my other hens. They bully my rooster as well, but they are excellent layers

My guess: they are some other red sex link, not Golden Comets.

Maybe separate them? I am not versed in anything reguarding chickens other than the what they look like and what people eat chicken sandwich and bacon and eggs, etc. I apologize for my lack of knowledge.

My Comet is my favorite girl. We call her nosey Rosie. She always has to know what is new in the yard so she can tell everyone else about it. 😂

My 4 are so noisy they have to watch me. Yesterday I cleaned out the coop scooping out dirty bedding. They all got in there digging around. Like they were embarrassed their house was dirty. So funny.

I've had Red Star hens in the past. That's what Murray McMurray calls their red sex link birds. They were good chickens and I can't recommend against them but I have settled on Silver Spangled Hamburgs. Strangely, I usually recommend against the breed I keep.

No, just for egg production. Their body is small 4 lbs.
As of 2023-2024 winter mine did well. Their small comb helped against frost bite
