    Bob writes songs about the blue collar workers in America. When I hear this song it makes me tear up because it reminds me of my youth, my Dad, and my Dad's old truck we spent so many hours in, driving without AC in 100 degree temperatures windows down but loving every minute of it.

    I think you understood what Bob was trying to convey. The invincibility that all youths feel, i.e., "like a rock", but as you get older and you experience the inevitable ups and downs of life you're no longer so sure of this invincibility.

    Bob Seger is like a king where I’m from. He still lives in the area, I’ve never been lucky enough to meet him, but I know several people that have. Everyone says he’s the nicest and most humble guy you could meet. He actually thanked a friend of mine for getting a picture with him.

    People often talk about David Gilmour and how he can bring such an emotional sound with a guitar, and rightfully so. But Drew Abbott is often overlooked. He has brought tears to my eyes with his achingly beautiful tones as well.

    Bob is a great singer and songwriter and has a gift when it comes to telling stories with his music and lyrics. I've always loved the soul and grittiness that his voice has. Check out more of his music - you'll be glad you did. Night Moves, Fire Down Below, Watch Her Strut, Turn the Page, Main Street, Makin' Thunderbirds, Come to Poppa, and of course, Old Time Rock & Roll.

    I heard Bob say in an interview once that he played this song (before it was released) for Don Henley and Glen Frey to get their thoughts on it. They said, "You can't use a word like 'unencumbered' in a rock & roll song!" He said, "Why not? It fits!"

      Bob introduced Glenn to Don, when Linda Rhonstact needed a band thrown together for a gig at Disney Land. He also suggested they write songs together. All 3 were in the Stone Ponies. Linda went her own way and then Glenn and Don formed the Eagles.

    Uh, I loved this, especially the instrumental piece..In my country we have a saying: "If only I could be young again but possesing this, old, wisdom" That would be perfect combination, if possible..Some people become softer with age, some become more like a rock, more rough around the edges, it depends a lot on how life has treated a person..

    This was one of my husband's favite songs but it was bittersweet. He was so strong phsically and mentally but as we got older and reality set in, he was realizing he wasn't as strong physically and his best days best were behind him. It is so unfair when you finally have knowledge and wisdom that your body is starting to let you down and your time is running out. The Golden Years is just a myth.

    Bob Seger is one of those artist who can make every song into a hit. For me there's a few artists like that with this heartland style of rock music. Like John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen and maybe a few others. These 3 guys especially, can sing soft rock songs where the lyrics mean something and most always tell a story. They can bring music lover of many different genres together loving the same songs. That don't happen often.

    • @bertpainter8385
      @bertpainter8385 3 года назад

      Forgot to request another by Bob Seger. If you get back to him, my favorite song by him is "Old time rock n roll" ruclips.net/video/7ZvYzflel48/видео.html My personal story why, is when my daughter was an infant she was colicky and had problems sleeping in the wee hours of the night. One night I did all I could to get her to sleep. After I realize it wasn't happening I decided to put this song on and dance with her on my shoulder at 2 am. She must have liked the song too, because she calmed down and started to fall asleep. But if I stopped she starting wailing again. It took about 5 replays before she was out for the the count. So this song became our theme song at weddings when she grew up. Everyone knew the story and requested for us to dance to it.

Great musical intuition on your part. Thanks for keeping us music enthusiasts so entertained & informed. Incidentally, my dad used to say all the time that "youth is wasted on the young ". Bruce and Bob are both considered Heartland Rock. Along with John Mellencamp, John Forgerty, Tom Petty, Bruce Hornsby, Steve Earle, John Hiatt and Melissa Etheridge and a few others.
    Under the broader Roots Rock category, I’m happy to see artists like Chris Stapleton and Larkin Poe are continuing the tradition.

    Upon seeing your video claiming this is the first time you've ever heard this song my first thought was that you were living under a rock and I wondered how you couldn't possibly have heard it, and then you opened up with the fact that you do live under a rock. 😂 However, I still believe you've heard it several times before since you recall almost all the lines in the song. But you haven't noticed how the epic guitar of Rick Vito and how it tells its own story along side Bob's.
