Before we get started, if you aren’t familiar with Matter, Thread and Home Assistant, you’ll want to check out the last video I did in this series which explains all that - which will be linked in the cards above for you to check out. Right, with that out the way, let’s get this stuff set up. To be clear, I’m covering the process of setting up Matter over Thread devices as that’s the more complicated route - and the route I personally recommend. Setting up Matter over WiFi is generally easier, and mostly it’s the same process anyway, so you shouldn’t have much trouble getting that set up.

The issue with exposing power monitoring over matter is that matter needs to define such functionality first. You can't just expose generic values, everything is a matter alliance sanctioned cluster / device. There's no power sensor in Matter 1.0 afaik so you'll need a future matter release first of all.
Thread is btw not the same as matter, nor is it ZigBee. It's just another kind of wireless connection like WiFi. A boarder router is basically a WiFi access point. Getting thread devices to work that don't use the matter protocol means you'll need support for whatever protocol they use.

I was waiting for a digested TLDR on how to get matter thingies on my network and I found it here! Shame I bought the -P stick when the -E was available for some reason.

I just bought one of those Sonoff Zigbee adapters because I thought my Ikea Dirigera hub would play nice with Home Assistant but it doesn't yet. Maybe once it supports it I'll switch back. I didn't know about flashing the firmware for that multi mode for Zigbee and Matter so I'll be doing that for sure! Ikea's switches are cheap and are kinda similar to Onvis 5 button switch you mentioned but do appear to work with Home Assistant so maybe they are an option for you if you're looking for something.

    Hi
I used the same Setup as you did. Is there a chance that since you uploaded the video this isn't working anymore?
    It Spamms this:
[16:24:32:936] Info : Failed to connect to Secondary.
[16:24:32:936] Info : Connecting to Secondary...
I checked the firmware of the stick twice. Used another usb port. Nothing is working sadly.
Has anyone else the same Problem?
Thanks to all that read this!

@TechteamGB Could I ask a question? I am a total noob in the smart home field and installed Home Assistant Container on my existing Raspberry pi4 which is my NAS, so I can't use add ons. Is it possible to use a sonoff zbDongle-E without the silicon labs multiprotocol add on? I just wanted to flash the thread firmware and skipp the multiprotocol step, is that possible?

Thankfully, this isn’t just a Google project. Philips, Apple, Amazon and others all participated and continue to participate in the development of Thread/Matter.
