I tell my students that math is a competitive sport, and that just like their favorite players in sports use practice to gain skills, that math is learned the same way. I also remind my students that the nice thing about homework is that it is self paced.

So true! Practice makes perfect and we gotta get the reps in!

Agree, students need peactice and to not make homework overbearing with a limit on the number of problems. In a block schedule, found some success with in class practice, but it is not the same as if homework done outside class time to allow for additional time if needed.

having block schedule is seriously a game changer. You have so much more time to dive deep with students and really build the understanding...Totally agree that in class practice is not the same as homework done outside
