I tell my students that math is a competitive sport, and that just like their favorite players in sports use practice to gain skills, that math is learned the same way. I also remind my students that the nice thing about homework is that it is self paced.

You have independent time only 13 min! And that is the most important time to learn. No no no!

Agree, students need peactice and to not make homework overbearing with a limit on the number of problems. In a block schedule, found some success with in class practice, but it is not the same as if homework done outside class time to allow for additional time if needed.

The whole problem is that most teachers (or the educational system) is based on showing your work. There are people who literally have the ability to compute in their head and they are penalized because they have a hard time writing things down. Maybe teachers should start evaluating students based on how individual students need to do something - if a student can do mental math - leave it alone. Why isn’t enough just to have the right answer regardless of how they go there.

Good morning! How to quiet down a noisy class? Any tips on that?

I’ve always struggled with this, but I may finally have it. At least for this type of graphing. I think I would have remembered this into my adulthood if I had been taught the Begin and Move as cues. Just like how I have remembered how to spell Mississippi or remembering “i” before “e”. Now I need to practice so it sticks!

Please where are you teaching

I am a huge proponent of stations. In 6th grade, I also like to choose strong math students to lead each station (they usually don't need the extra help and LOVE the opportunity to teach their peers as an 'expert').

I've finally seen someone who has the same opinion as I when it comes to which is better between quizziz and kahoot. I too prefer quizziz but once in a while, I also use kahoot. Thank you for all your suggestions. I'll definitely try that of the dice.

I tried it in my class yesterday and had two students (inclusion) acted like fish out of water gaping and gasping like fish out of water- totally ruined it for the rest of the class who were willing. They are usually very disruptive anyway, but it disrupted everything and set the tone for the beginning of class. How would you deal with this?

You can not get homework every day so you on most days get a Extra 10 min so not 15 min but 25 minutes
