- It's opening day! And there's no place I'd rather be than on a big patch of Pennsylvania public land, deer hunting. Tagging a beautiful 8 point mountain buck was just icing on the cake!

Good representation of a public land PA buck. I'm almost 50 years old. I'm also a former PAGC Bowhunter Education Instructor. I swear, unless it came off of "privileged access" land (think from inside an airport property or gated community that doesn't allow hunting to more than a few people per year), every PA buck I've ever taken, or seen taken, has virtually this same set of antlers no matter how old they manage to get. (I'm looking at a couple of them on my wall as I type.)
Ya, that's about what they look like! Classic PA 8 pointer. Any bigger than that and they're considered "exceptional"
So true.
I think that is changing to be honest. But for the most part, in the past, I agree. I found one exception in my time hunting and he is a nice 12pt mountain buck on my wall. When I read up on things like epigenetics and generational impacts that nutrition has it is no small wonder that's been the case for so long here. From what I'm seeing now, though, that is changing to a degree. It's changing slowly but it is changing. I saw one buck this year that was super wide for the PA mountains. Well over 20 inches. I saw him last year as well and the amount of antler he put on from one year to the next was seriously impressive. I have hope that before I'm too old to get out and run the ridges here that I'll see what this state is truly capable of producing on a regular basis.
Congrats Nick..Thanks for sharing excitement..it's just the real deal..what hunting should be..Allie your videos are tops..I don't feel like you're trying to create a program..It's just raw and real..You both make me proud..Way to go !!

Here in New Mexico we can only take one buck and we have to pick one bow , mazdloader or rifle and only get 5 days
Imagine if it had more horns 😮

That's better than we did in erie/ Warren county. Just an odd year for us. My son got a nice 8 point but we didn't see as many deer as we usually do.
Odd year in PA all the way around.
@@OutdoorsAllie we had deer all over the place in bear season and just a couple weeks later there was nothing. I thought it was going to be an easy year. They just weren't moving.
Good job
Thanks!
Nice job!!!!! 😌🫶🏼
Thanks!!
@@OutdoorsAllie ..Welcome sweetie
Awesome way to start gun season!! Congratulations Nick on your double. Is there a reason you don’t saddle hunt during gun? Trying to learn as much as possible before next season thanks.
Nick likes to. It is definitely doable, but I like to move around a lot. Maybe too frequently lol
Congrats, better than I.
Thanks!!
Oh forgive me. Merry Christmas!!
Same to you Rob!
😊😊😊😊😊
Love it!! Dying to find out if you shot a buck too lol. Which cartridge do you shoot?
Thanks Gabrielle! I like a 308 nick used a 243

Ever go hunting in Canada?
I'd love to
Congratulations on those two deer. That was a very successful hunt. Love your hunting video.
Thanks Paul!
Wait, did I see Nick smile?
😂jk nice buck brother.
LOL somebody probably farted. That usually gets a good laugh from him 🤣
@@OutdoorsAllie 😂😂
Hi im new here ❤ from Sweden ☺️
Hello 😊
What shooting rest are you using?
BOG
Hey what ever happened to you making a turkey wing bone call ,I was just wondering
Yes, I did a couple years ago. It's hard to use, but pretty cool.
What wmu??
Are you in Tennessee
PA
You guys STILL have to tag them?? In VA, after the deer is down and out, a hunter cuts a notch out of the tag that they are filling (Antlerless only or Either sex) then calls the toll-free phone number on their license to finish the check-in process. A number is given to the hunter to write down on the tag that they filled. Badda-bing, badda boom! Done.
Yes, we do.
Bummer. But I can see the point of view from the game commission. Accurate accounts for deer taken by ethical hunters. @@OutdoorsAllie
Get rid of the latex and get nitrile gloves. Man that was an Oldtimer!
Gloves for life!!
The breeding gloves up the entire arm is great. Usually I dont need that much if you split the brisket as far as possible. I use a Havalon Piranta now and you can't get enough of the brisket without breaking the blade.
Happy new year.🤙✍
Same to you!
@@OutdoorsAllie
Congratulations
Thanks Peter!
