We went against Reagan our second foot ball game, it's nice to see their show progress so far. That was my first time seeing such a big band, since I'm from Tom c clark hs
My daughter is in color guard from a Russell Springs KY. It's a small 3A band that got 4th in state this year and did amazing. When they went this year to BOA in St Louis and she saw Broken Arrow it was like she met celebrities. They we bigger than life to her. They was everything our color guard wanted to be and they was amazing. The high school I went to was the county next to Russell Springs and it's the Adair county high school and for anybody in BOA in the 80's and 90's knows that we were unstoppable. We had over 20 straight BOA championship's and state. Now to see Russell county going to state and place 4th this year and 3rd last year with 47% of the band first years it's going to be exciting for the next 5 years and hopefully longer.
I got to go to BOA grand nationals this year and it was an amazing experience. Personally my favorite was Tarpon Springs but I got to see all of these bands live and there was just something special about tarpon in person compared to when I re-watched it on video. (I recorded the box 5 video of the performance, Box 5 is the official marching band streaming/recording service)
Honestly being a Pinellas Kid(county where tarpon is) I find all of they’re stuff not super amazing…but maybe that’s just because they get all the glory in our county…
I am also an Oklahoma kid and we always get destroyed by Broken Arrow(Show was "over the edge") every year at state and come close to Mustang(show was "Prom")
My favorite band was Broken Arrow. What’s wack is they were the first band I saw when I went into the stadium during prelims. All of these high schools were insane and put my college band visually to shame.
Here's a crazy thought...Hebron's Battery, Brass and Guard form a Drum Corps and compete in DCI over the summer....I think they would do well in Open class, and maybe scare a few Corps in World Class....too crazy??
i love tarpon, i’m in the same county as them and we attend their competition every year, i also have multiple friends there, and they never seize to amaze
Yeah they are awesome. I got the privilege to see them live at Boa Orlando for their victory run. Before we saw it we were salty that they swept as they usually do. After we saw everybody left and said "Yeah that makes sense" lol
Sometimes I wish I was born 40 minutes west to be in carmel, but there is a charm being in my band, Its just boring since we are a track band, and our music is easy. I am in the Anderson marching Highlanders. All we are known for are wearing quilts and we got bagpipes, so thats pretty cool.

Wow, I'm from Texas and I marveled at all the great programs we had this year, but once I heard AVON online, I was speechless! Their musicality and creativity was hard to describe! In my opinion this is one of AVON's most musical performances on record! It was very moving and inspirational! I believe this year was a close year! In my mind, there may have been a 3 way tie for first place even if Hebron had gone to Nationals. (Hebron, Carmel, Avon). Also I heard such beautiful music from out of state bands that I had never known before. There is so much talent in these top 10 bands, not to mention the other top 30 there were not mentioned. It must be epic to experience live! I have yet to attend Nationals in person!
@JMM244. I just don’t see the Indiana contingents packing the brass HP that round out this list. Their brass books were intermediate in level and so it sounds good. Would have the top 100 bands competed at Nats 2022: Hebron Woodlands Vandy If BOA wasn’t so heavy adjudicated on designer and visual I would always say BA before I would consider Avon and Carmel. I*** I could concede a 4 way tie for 3rd. Vandy, BA, Avon and Carmel

Idk Probably around 13-15, I know Id want Vista Ridge, Cedar Ridge, and Flower Mound above them and then its a toss up between them and CTJ so probably 14th

As a viewer id say Tarpon was my 2nd favorite show this year behind the Woodlands.
Oklahoma does not have an actual "state marching band championship" as stated for Broken Arrow. The OSSAA (Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association), which is the governing body for all recognized school activities, does not have such a competition. What you are calling a state championship is the OBA (Oklahoma Bandmaster's Association) Marching competition that declares a state champion. However, not all school directors are members and many very competitive bands do not take part because it is not an official thing. Only those directors who choose to pay the membership dues in an unrecognized and unaffiliated organization are able to have their bands compete. (And all too often, this expense is not paid by their school districts because it is not tied to OSSAA.) This "state champion" claim has caused a whole lot of confusion and hard feelings for approximately 45 years now and has yet to be resolved or handled properly by the OSSAA or the OBA. The history is sad and neither side seems willing to meet in the middle to resolve the issue or do anything to create an official way to recognize an official state marching champion for the various classes of bands in the state.
That is interesting. I wonder why ok doesn’t put a traditional state championship together. I’m curious what bands in OK that don’t participate are at the BA level. If there are more bands like BA in OK I would love to check them out!
Bro, I understand these are all subjective, but you REALLY need to check out some of the H.S bands in CA. There are some that are just as good, if not better, than Hebron. Mission Viejo H.S., Vista Murrieta H.S. and Rancho Bernardo just to name a few. Yes Hebron is good, they better be being that size, but I've seen bands in CA that are actually smaller and again, just as good as Hebron and the other bands you picked.

How?
Where the heck is Grand Rapids Minnesota high school marching band at? Do better next time smh
Who?
Grand Rapids did a fine job at Nats. I loved the show design.
These list is only a subjective Top 10 but it aggregates programs at the highest level and many didn’t get to make it to Nats this year.
Grand Rapids should be proud of their performance at Lucas! I caught them at Nats and I am now a fan all the way from Texas!
Great list!
