went before Hebron at BOA San Antonio. we took band photos after our performance and the photographer could NOT get our attention whatsoever. Hebron this year was BEYOND incredible.
IMO Hebron was the best this year because they didn't feel like a high school band. Their show was less flashy than those like broken arrow or flower mound, but their music was amazing. They felt like a Drum corps, while a lot of the other bands felt like a really good high school band. I don't think any on the list are bad by any standards, but that distinction is what puts Hebron as high in my opinion.
Some people really put bands on tiers more based on the level of the show design, I’ve heard many talk about how effective some groups are at eliciting certain feelings and emotions with what occurs on the field and that the band that is able to cater their design towards those attention grabbing spectacle, unique aspects like prop usage, guard implementation, the “visual demand” students have through choreography and the drill itself. And the bands that do that best are just more effective, but hey there sometimes happen to also be a group that is demonstrably on another level when it comes to musical performance, and Hebron just happened to be that group this past year, I think that beyond anything is why I’m also in agreement that just because they didn’t cater to the nitty gritty of the best designed show doesn’t mean that they weren’t better😳🤐

Marcus is top tier, they just don’t produce as much sound as some other bands because of the way they teach over there but those kids are fed something else
It also has a lot to do with how little marchers Marcus has nowadays. Not including props, they had around 110 marchers and that's only a fraction of some of the other bands on this list. @@6band can’t put them that low. Execution was great and just because they use a classical musical style and classy instead of flashy drill doesn’t mean you put a bias against them like that…
It is how well the show blends looks an sounds together. We had a former judge come to our rehearsals leading up to grand nats and he said that it was almost all based on drill and props and how well they help convey the theme of the show, if that makes sense. Timing of the performer is also in GE, weather it is foot timing or timing on entrances. I hope that help frees up confusion, i judged it with this video because the 3 in here are how BOA scores.
Not with all those intonation problems. Plus Nats is not really a true championship. Many amazing programs can’t attend regularly and the Elites outside of Indiana are usually on rotations.

@@corrancully5960 most bands that have a lot of funding get it through working really really hard at fundraising, which doesn't just mean running good fundraisers, it means getting your entire city to support the band.
I guarantee you the judges don't get hyped because of guard... To be entirely honest, Carmel has mediocre guard when compared to the top BOA and UIL competitors. Idk about Avon, but the judges love Carmel for sound quality more than anything else, and if we seem over scored it's at least partially because we're playing on our home field. Carmel and Avone live so close to Lucas Oil that they can afford to go to not only BOA finals every year, but also Indy super regionals which is held at Lucas Oil, and ISSMA state finals and semi finals which are also held at Lucas Oil. Yeah, it's not entirely fair to Texas hands who have to travel so far, live and rehearse out of probably a dingy hotel, and can only afford the trip once every few years, but that's how it is right now, and how it will be unless and until boa changes it's finals location again.
@@joesmith9920 Carmel has a rich history and honestly my favorite Indiana Band program. IMO the problem may lie with the judging sheets. ISSMA and BOA score identically. So much of the focus is on the design elements and favor Visual over Music execution. Texas has maintained its music execution and only recently overall leveled up in terms of design (2010’s). Gaines is amazing but imagine if he wrote the same level shows for all the elites? BA, TP and Texas! The other problem I see is that Carmel Avon and Indiana has primarily focused on those amazing guards and usually design around them. Those outside of Indiana notice that the brass music books are nearly basic to intermediate in difficulty compared to the rest of the country. Chamber sounds are amazing occasionally but I can’t see you all performing brass music books at the difficulty of Hebron or other Elites yet.
@@Tigers16c Maybe so but in terms of marching band, Texas does have some of the best marching bands which is evident in their competitions comparatively.

I think BA was better, they did just beat the top score for a reason. 98.25 is something most of the top bands dream of.
Coppell top 15?
Anyone know who arranges their winds book?
Bro 6/10 high schools here are from Texas
Thank you! Like I liked Carmel but I think with the lack of a visual (in my opinion) didn’t make me think they deserved 2nd I really think there were better shows
That's exactly why I put them at 7 on this list
Yeah our show would have been way better if we had some cooler props and better visuals
@@muukas3453 agreed, I loved our show but there was definitely a lack of visual.
@@6band can’t put them that low. Execution was great and just because they use a classical musical style and classy instead of flashy drill doesn’t mean you put a bias against them like that…
@@ryanjones1400 completely understand but I just enjoyed the other 6 better tbh, thats just what I thought.
do HS show bands next, not just DCI
Show bands? You mean bands that dont compete and dont get scored?
This isn't dci lol
@@joesmith9920 corp style*
@@MiraDaWulf show bands are bands that go into battle of the bands. mainly HBCU style with high knee marching like southern and grambling university

Hebron Goated
What does general effect mean?
Is it just how the music and visuals work together?
It is how well the show blends looks an sounds together. We had a former judge come to our rehearsals leading up to grand nats and he said that it was almost all based on drill and props and how well they help convey the theme of the show, if that makes sense. Timing of the performer is also in GE, weather it is foot timing or timing on entrances. I hope that help frees up confusion, i judged it with this video because the 3 in here are how BOA scores.
Ah ok that helps, thx
@@6band ge is the sole reason Carmel got its threepeat, it is what we pray to and what blesses us with good scores lol.
Look up the DCI video for Carolina Crown 2013, Judge’s commentary for GE.
And bring Kleenex.
carmel should be higher in my opinion cause they placed 3rd at grand nats
Not with all those intonation problems. Plus Nats is not really a true championship. Many amazing programs can’t attend regularly and the Elites outside of Indiana are usually on rotations.
Carmel placed 2nd with a score of 97.050 :)
@@kennadeez_nutz7798 I'm sorry, I love CARMEL, but unfortunately , this year; their show lacked in musicality, intonation and complexity! Their sound was nowhere near what other top bands were this year! Not completely sure what was going on.
@@JMM224 yeah the finals run wasn't on par with our prelims or semis runs, too much emotion cause a bit of funkiness in sound compared to our normal quality
Broken Arrow > Hebron
me seeing all my friends in ba 😭
You are telling me there are dci level highschools??
Hebron on top
check out Jupiter highschool marching bands show this year
I know my high school I work for and went to didn't make this list. We haven't had a marching band since 1962! Pep Band yes, but no marching. Too snobby!
I agree with a lot but personally, Carmel should be higher
Song name? 1:04
it’s based on sweet dreams by eurythmics
Ctj? Reagon?
I'm sure the reason they weren't included was because they did somewhat poorly this year in terms of the popularity of their shows. Compared to previous years, they didn't do as well as they should have unfortunately.
Okay but like where is Loveland high school marching band?
hebron us INSANE
Westlake?
Human juke box
Bryan Ohio and our band is the best in our county
no ctj :(
The props are nice but over done...sorry.
Centerville got robbed
I firmly believe that broken arrow is good just because they only let juniors and seniors march plus being rich
Only juniors and seniors???? That's stupid.
@@zacharyash4321 they probably wouldn't even be able to fit freshman and sophomores on the field with juniors and seniots
uhm i’m a BA sophomore and marched my freshman year too?? idk where you heard that but it’s not true. also i’m nowhere near rich 😀
@Madi Bailey everyone at moore has told me that only juniors and seniors march so i dont really know along with them telling me they are rich🤷♂️
@@corrancully5960 most bands that have a lot of funding get it through working really really hard at fundraising, which doesn't just mean running good fundraisers, it means getting your entire city to support the band.
now THIS is going my top 10 worst top 10 lists :trolled:
?
I agree. Avon and Carmel are so overhyped and over scored it’s getting old. Sure they have a good guard but come on.
Chamber sounds are amazing occasionally but I can’t see you all performing brass music books at the difficulty of Hebron or other Elites yet.
its always hebron lol does chris botti teach them or what?
Broken arrow...way too artsy, Kinda like female gymnastics...too much ballet and not enough marching formations. Those outfits [sigh].
Very texas biased opinion. Should look nationwide more
I do not have Texas Bias... simple as that
It’s bc texas has the best marching bands
@@ArnyT12329 most texas people think everything in texas is better. Very close minded people there.
@@Tigers16c Maybe so but in terms of marching band, Texas does have some of the best marching bands which is evident in their competitions comparatively.
@@ArnyT12329 texas does have some good marching bands but so does Georgia(atlanta), louisiana(new orleans, baton rouge, Shreveport), & other states as well. It just so happens that louisiana has 2 of the best college bands in all of the nation in southern & grambling.
