Thank you for sharing! I hope you feel better now and you are a very smart person never doubt yourself. Any of us are potential scam victims but you are correct that we should all listen to our inner voice and take note. Sometimes just slowing down will help you see where things are not right. Take care and be kind to yourself. You beat the scammers, you go Girl!
If it were me. I wouldn’t bother. It’s not the company but scammer s who target the company. . Thanks for introducing us to the lovely Aboriginal fabrics. I look forward to purchasing a kit before they run out. B-Blrssed
So sorry your first experience with Etsy was bad but glad the HS warned you and you listened. Did you say you saw an Etsy ad and click on that to start your shop or did you start you shop by going directly to their sell on Etsy app? If you did it from an ad maybe the scammer created that ad and not Etsy. If from Etsy app or website it may be an inside job where scammers have paid some low paid employee to give them access to new accounts. I don’t have an Etsy shop but have slightly considered it. If I were you I wouldn’t go forward unless you find a legitimate way to file a report with Etsy and they confirm they have investigated your case/account and they give you clear instructions of how to proceed. Or they close that account and they walk you through opening the account so they can confirm that new accounts aren’t hacked. And even if Etsy does their due diligence be lead by the Holy Spirit of how to proceed. Pray, Pray, Pray before during and after on these business decisions. Thanks for sounding the alarm and hope it helps a potential Etsy newbie not get scammed. Great catchy video title. 🙏🏽
This happened to me but I still went ahead, don’t let it put you off! At least you will be aware like I am now because I really almost fell for it as well. Etsy does need to do something about this though! The emails have slowed down now but within the first couple hours when you open it they bombard you.
That is exactly what I say all the time! Imagine where the world would be indeed! I cannot believe this! Thank God you were inspired, Crafty Quilting Design!!!
I find it super curious how a scammer got your info at the time you're opening an account?? So it sounds like Etsy has a breech in their security and someone working on the inside is working in real time scamming people. Thank you for reporting this so others can beware.
That definitely sounds like a possibility, that's why if it happens to anyone else, they should have links disabled and make copies for law enforcement. This is a federal issue because it is interstate commerce and that would fall under FBI, but your local law enforcement should be able to take the claim for you.
The biggest red flag in any such message is urgency - if they claim you need to act *right now* or something terrible will happen, then beware. Etsy would never close a shop in the next 5 minutes if you don’t comply with a rule. Unfortunately this sort of scam isn’t specific to that platform. I’ve had people try other types on my own e-commerce store on my site… All we can do is stay sharp and check everything twice. I’m glad your gut instinct prevented you from giving those scammers any money!
Those slimy scammers not only wanted your $500; what they really, really wanted was your account details so that they could drain your account. I’m so glad you listened to your inner voice. 99% of the time, it’s spot-on.
If Etsy really cared, it would be working secure their site from scammers taking money in its name. So sorry this happened. Glad you were able to catch this.
I have never seen a site like etsy whereby they have scammers in the messages which people are falling for, yet etsy doesn't give a monkeys and doesn't seem to be doing a single thing about it. Considering the amount of money they are making, they can more than afford to secure their site.
@@hils1015It is very hard to stop scammers without harming honest users. All websites face this challenge. If you have never seen this before I bet you never played an online video game because this stuff gets real messy in that world.
Unfortunately Etsy don’t care about any of their sellers, if they did their customer service wouldn’t be nonexistent. There’s no phone number your can ring, you can fill out their contact form but don’t expect a reply
I closed my Etsy shop. I had itfor about 12 years and they deleted all my listings without telling me because they said I put in listing I used FDA approved bags. I sell cookies. And when I questioned this, they just gave me a run around. Never answering my questions so I closed my shop. Meanwhile, plenty of sellers still say FDA bags in their listings and their shop is still opened! You cannot communicate with Etsy. No human contacts! No more Etsy for me.
@@Valleygirl4lifeCreations same! I appealed and they said I’d violated terms and conditions. It was my own designs made by me. Thankfully this was a secondary account.
This happened to me right before Christmas. I was in Etsy for over 13 years. I tried to open a new one and they shut it down right away too and asked in an email for our credit card again. They said it was important to get it asap. We said we were not sure we could trust them. They said it's up to us and we can decline giving it, they would fully delete the new shop. So we said yes, delete it, they said asap ( Do it yourself) we knew right then it was a scam.
I just opened an Etsy shop in January 2024 too. I received very similar messages within the first day of opening our shop too. Luckily in all the information that Etsy provides I remembered seeing that Etsy says it will never ask you for information or to submit information off the platform (like e-mail). When the messages tried to shift to e-mail, like yours did, I realized it was a scam too. I get these messages a couple times each week and mark them as spam. I have run into similar scam attempts on Instagram also. It is really annoying. Thanks for sharing your story, it's great to know you are not alone.
Thanks to you both for sharing. I am getting ready to open my own shop and this kind of information helps tremendously. Do any of you know what is Etsy doing about the scammers?
@heidibedoya7942 etsy is not doing anything about the scammers and there is nobody at etsy you can reach out to. I opened an etsy store in January and immediately received the scam emails. Some of them even said "from etsy". I just ignored them and marked them as spam. Beware of this because you will get them too. They are all scams.
Oh hun Etsy has so many scammers. I’m out over $100 still and just gave up trying to get it back. PayPal didn’t back me either. These scammers are now so sophisticated it just makes me so angry. Even $5 is a lot for me. It’s sad.
If it hasn't been too long and you have all the evidence, then contact your credit card company. I had the same experience with PayPal about a year ago even though I had proof that I hadn't received the item and the shop turned out to be a scam. PayPal didn't do anything but my credit card company reimbursed me in just a few hours. Then PayPal had the nerve to tell me they closed my complaint because I went to the credit card company -- after they had already closed my complaint and would no longer work with me. It may be worth a try.
Yes, the ultimate source to go to IS your Credit Card Company Customer Service! They deal with sooo many scams; you would be shocked to hear what's going on out there in the wild! Credit Card Co's. happily assist their cardholders; they also lose $$$$$$$ in scams as well; Credit Card Co's. are VERY knowledgeable on most of the scams. Don't hesitate to call them; they are your real line of defense!
@@daphnet39 omg I hope that never happens again! I have never had a problem with PayPal. They have always gone into anything and snatched my money right back from any scam artist. Even just two weeks ago when a seller sent me someone else's tracking number and tried to use the packaging info to tell everyone they had delivered my package. I gave everything to PayPal to look up and my money was back in my account right away.
Try getting love scammed by someone you know, pretending to be a scammer for role play, but he was serious. I lost two years of survival money to him sigh.
@@daphnet39That's what I did when I got scammed in Amazon, I immediately went to the credit card company and they were able to help. I had to present some evidence, I took some copies of the product, transaction, etc and it worked, I got my money back.
I had the same experience and it didn't even cross my mind it was a scam, because exactly as you said, it was a message through Etsy. Before i did anything, i asked people in the Printify Facebook group and the only thing i got was mocking, because it supposedly was a very obvious scam attempt. Then i deleted my message and exited the group, because i realised i wasn't the one that's stupid, but all the others in that group. Social media has made people comfortable with trolling each other, because they know they are safe from getting a punch in the jaw.
I've been on Etsy 3 years now and the other day I decided to open another shop and within 2 hours I got the same message and for a second I thought it was Etsy until I realized when Etsy closes or suspend you shop there's a Red Banner at the top. So sad how these people sit around and trying to scam us hard working people.. Sick me to my stomach.. Glad you heard that voice. God Is Good:))
It happened to me with a text from USPS. At the time I was expecting a delivery. I had just moved, and I didn't know if the delivery had the right zip code. I got texts over and over that .38 cents postage was due. I put my card in to pay for it, and it didn't go through, I tried another card, something. I went to the post office, and they said it wasn't them. After that I got a text from what they said was Facebook and to enter my name and bank to send money from the information breach on their site. That one was weird. So you are sometimes right in the middle of handling the situation just like this lady, and you get a random message that seems like it's real. It's about the fact that you are going through a situation, and a random message pops up matching your situation at the moment. They are playing the odds.
@@elainebernarding8495 Yes, indeed it's a big business! I heard on the News this year that a lots of the scammers are "Human Trafficking Victims who are force to do it or die, and if they don't scam so many persons a day, they get beaten. One man who they rescued showed the scars on his back from his kidnappers. It's a mind-boggling situation and is getting worse.
I'm so glad you listened to your intuitive voice! It's not just Etsy, these scammers are everywhere. My brilliant Mom, suffered severe Dementia the last few years of her life. These scammers came out of the woodwork! They preyed on her. Thank goodness she always turned to me to help her because they would get her scared. Your video will help so many people, thank you for sharing it with others! ❤
I worry about us getting older and falling for these scams. My husband will ask me about emails he get and I tell him NO! Scams! He doesn’t alway believe me, but now I’ve discussed it with him so much, he is now seeing the light. He will ASK me if he questions.
I am so glad you caught this. Those of us who would never do this to anyone, don't expect anyone to do it to us. Too bad the few can ruin it for the many.
The same thing happened to me and I had my shop for months but sold nothing. I was updating info and I got a message. Blah Blah placed an order and we need you to confirm your payment info. Scan the QR code. I wrote back everything is confirmed and updated so not sure why I have to do it again. They wrote again to scan the QR code. I said nope to myself. The purchaser name looked suspicious too. I don't remeber the name but I contacted Etsy and deleted all messages. I went online and found out the QR code thing is a scam. Etsy never sends a QR code. You are also right they use Etsy platforms too. Very scary!!
The same thing happened to me on Facebook and I unfortunately fell for it. My credit card ended up overdrafted and I lost my Facebook account I had since the inception of Facebook because my fan page was hacked. It was a horrible experience and I have not been able to recover since 11/26/23 when it happened. Just yesterday I got the same message you received on a new Etsy store I opened and I felt immediately ill just like you, and I immediately marked it as spam. Then additional messages kept popping up and I keep marking the messages as spam. Thank you for sharing and I’m so sorry you went through this.
I just had to pay a truck toll in Texas . When I tried to pay it kept kicking me back to a representative . The representative told me to pay on the website which I did . There was a third party that attached to their payment system . And charged me a fee . The toll company said they do this and sometimes take 60 days to pay out the toll . I had given them my debit info . I canceled my debit and had to wait 10 days for a new one . Will never pay online again
@@jeanmariemissale5663 I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. I hope you got your money back in addition to the new debit card. I know it can be frustrating.
You are the second Etsy seller that I have listened to who has experienced encounters with retched scammers. It sounded as if the other person was scammed. Her store was cloned. Praise God you were not scammed. You were very wise to listen to the voice of God.
I had someone use my patterns from my Etsy shop and posted them on FB, with a video that went with it, and passed them off as theirs. Fortunately a friend spotted my pattern being used, and my video. I sent emails to this FB person….. no response. The complaint procedure was so complicated, that I gave up. But Praise God! I benefitted by receiving many orders when people read the comment my friend posted on their FB page. Etsy is good, but be very aware, as said here.
I think that these platforms are dealing with a lot of merchants . So much more than they had ever anticipated. They need to consider hiring a Tech company to monitor all transactions for the sake of their reputation and security of their platforms. As craftsman and artists we may need to reconsider setting up our own platforms which may require a bit more work driving customers to our site but may be worth it in the long run. Etsy has so many sellers that they may need to consider setting up an Etsy 2 to accommodate the influx of new users. Or divide by categories who remains on the first site from the second. They don't want to lose their big shops so the competition may be costing Etsy.
Always trust your intuition. I’m so glad you caught it in time. I’ve been scammed and felt so stupid. I kicked myself a lot. Now I question everything. Too many scammers out there.
I get emails every day from scammers wanting me to clink on a link. I got one from PayPal the other day. Suspicious I logged in to my account and turns out it was fake fishing account to access who knows what.
Like my grams always says “listen to your gut feelings “ it’s amazing that there’s so many scammers out there! Good job I’m glad you didn’t fall for it! 💖
Thank you for sharing your experience via this video. Rather than a business person I am just an ordinary buyer and, like you, I consider myself to be "savvy" but I got scammed on Amazon once. Also, like you, my gut alerted me. To cut a long story short I finished up calling my credit card company right away. They clawed back the payment and changed my credit card details. I am now much more cautious in the way I handle ordering online. p.s. Rather than stupid, I see you as articulate and kind in taking the time to pass on this warning. Good luck with your business.
Oh Karen! That is SO frightening. I’m so grateful everything is ok with your bank, and I hope you reported this directly to Etsy. I’m actually breathing a sigh of relief for you. Thanking The Holy Spirit for His warning💕🙏🏻
So glad u listened to your inner voice n stopped. Thank you for putting this video out so others can beware and stay alert for these scammers thieves that work so hard to STEAL hardworking peoples money 😡😤
I almost got roped in from a text supposedly from my bank. It all looked legit up to a certain point and I got that same horrible feeling like something is wrong. I quickly logged onto my actual bank account, found it wasn't true, and immediately changed all my login information just in case. I felt stupid that it took me as long as I did before I caught it, I was just about to provide info that I should never just text. Ugh!!! Scammers are such hateful people. Bless you, you did great and are not stupid. We all get caught off guard at some point.
Thank you for posting this. I am sorry you were frightened but these people are ruthless. I averted a scam recently and I know the feeling you are going through. Stay safe, trust your intuition as you have done. Peace
I am so happy that you evaded this scam. It seems to me that the scammers have infiltrated Etsy. How else would the know the instant you have opened an account. It seems that this scam is so prevalent that it indicates that Etsy is negligent by having such a porous security system that the scammers can access your name and contact info so quickly after a person sets up a shop.. Etsy needs to address this serious issue. Something is rotten at Etsy.
Actually, if they cared, they would really only allow handmade items on their site as they say they do. But instead, they have mass produced drop shippers everywhere.
@altheawright5431, If victims DON'T TELL Etsy what's going on, how will Etsy know there's a problem? Many times the victim doesn't take it any further. Ultimately, Etsy is also a victim because their reputation is being sullied.
Scammers can make a mail address look like anything for a normal user. It doesn't mean there are scammers who have an access to Etsy internal mail. However, I wonder how they got the mail - maybe your data isn't that well protected there.
I’m really glad you listened to your intuition. It’s disgusting how many people there are unwilling to do an honest day's work, trying to scam unsuspecting, good people. even when you’re being, very careful, they have become so tricky and sophisticated, it can be easy to fall victim if you aren't 100% on top of your game. My in-laws, in their late 80s, have recently been the victim of a scam whereby someone called them and told them they won a sweepstakes, but they had to pay the taxes first to get the winnings. They called them impersonating the IRS, and convinced them to send $1600. It’s heartbreaking because these people would have never fallen for this when they were younger and completely mentally on top of their game. People like that make me want to believe in karma.
This happened to me! I literally opened my shop 3 days ago now and was bombarded with over 50 messages of the same thing. The first message asked me to put in my card details, but I then had a second thought when it asked me my bank balance.
That happened to me. I'm new on Etsy and didn't realize there are two different inboxes for emails: one from Etsy directly and one NOT-Etsy. I had to cancel 3 credit cards for fraud. The thieves tried to push through pushes to "verify" the card. I have all kinds of alerts on my cards, so nothing went through, but it was a horrible experience. There was that "urgent" chaos, too. The creatures who do this.....well, they should all be put on an island so they can do these things to each other. The way businesses use non-human interaction with terrible customer service nowadays, it's hard to distinguish between scammers and just bad customer chats/support. Companies just take our $ and leave us in the dust.
I like the idea of putting them all on an island somewhere to only be able to scam each other. It would be somewhat of a "hell-like" place. This is a good idea for a short story or something. I'm sure these people (term used loosely) would not like these types of scams to happen to their family or friends. 😎
I did the same and had to put stops and reissue two credit cards with new numbers and go to my bank to get another bank visa card issued. They didn't get my money only because I caught on finally to the fact that I was getting scammed and immediately started taking action to fix the situation. I also filed a fraud alert with Equifax. A lot to go through because I fell for it and thought they were Etsy. Realize now that there are two message boxes and Etsy uses the From Etsy one.
Bumped into your channel through this video - thank you so much for sharing. Let out a hug sigh of relief when you didn't go through with what the scammers had set you up to do. When wonderful caring intelligent women like you meet the actions of preditory heartless people we sometimes only come out in one piece because we listened to our gut or our God. You did an awesome job hun xxx thank you so much for sharing and Etsy really needs to hear this message now or this level of Internet insecurity could destroy their business - it's literally a make or break point in the history of their business - I would say they have utterly failed in their duty of care and one of their core business values, no doubt. You have a new subscriber because because your warmth, honesty and bravery needs more love and support. Gurl you did awesome, stay strong.
you did the right thing. i submitted the code and my acct started getting deductions in the hundreds several times until someone at my bank caught the scam happening and put a block and reached me immediately. thank God. it is a total scam. in my experience it was not Etsy but a yarn company from England. i make crochet produucts. this really hurt me so very much that people can be this cruel. these craft items are a gift of love because of the time it takes to make a piece there is no price that can cover all that time. i make blankets but now i just donate my pieces to chemo centers and homeless shelters. these scammers dont just hurt a bank account they hurt you to the core. i am so happy you are safe from them. i too had that feeling of do not give them this code number but then thought i need to stop being so negative and paranoid and just gave the number; huge mistake. God bless you always.
@@W124phreak I doubt it was actually a yarn company in England. Scammers will hide behind legitimate businesses to increase the appearance of credibility. Basically they're creating a "shell" identity for another layer of protection.
Thank you for sharing. It's a classic scam. And it can happen to anyone. The most important takeaway is... always, ALWAYS trust your instincts. I do want to say, as a shop owner myself....etsy is aweful at 'contact'. They are very hard to get hold of. I had many customers try to scam me in other ways. It blows my mind too....there are indeed scumbags out there...but..there are also wonderful people. Your angels were definitely watching over you. ❤ from Australia.
So glad you got away!! And yes, good advice for ALL online transactions. The other day I was dealing with my phone account and they asked me for $1 from my bank account, which would be "fully refunded." Why would they need that?! To get my bank account info I'm sure. I simply stopped responding and that was that. Scam!
Oh my goodness I am SO grateful that your intuition took charge and you were able to save yourself ! I hope you report all of this information to Etsy, call them up if you have to and provide all the details ! Bless you for sharing this to prevent others being scammed the same way
This happened to me when I first opened my Etsy shop - I think it happens to every new shop, they try to take advantage of your inexperience. However, I ignored it, deleted the message and moved on - now loving my shop. Don’t let this spoil your enjoyment as scammers are everywhere these days, part of the learning curve, I’m afraid. The best form of revenge is success. Go do your stuff and make loads of money! X
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been considering opening an Etsy store to sell my massive stock of quilting fabric. I’m not very tech savvy, so that’s been a stopper for me. Now I know I had best beware! Thank you SO much!!!!
I've been selling for a number of years (multiple shops), and it was about two weeks ago that exactly the same thing happened to me. I didn't get as involved as you did. I too felt as though something wasn't right and began to read HELP articles. I did reach out to ETSY, but all they ever seem to do is direct you to more articles to read. Know that these scams exist all over. You just have to do your due diligence to protect yourself.
I’m sorry you went through that! I too experienced something similar. I kept getting messages ‘from Etsy’ that said my account was flagged as suspicious with a link to click. I didn’t click it, had to research and the Etsy info was not clear enough, but I eventually realized the ‘Messages from Etsy’ section is where ‘real’ Etsy messages come from. It’s frustrating to me that all we can do is mark as spam-there should be more of a report a scam option!
It happened to me too over a month ago, I was almost caught by the scammers. It happened when I added a new product and an email came through with the etsy logo saying to update my bank details through a link they attached, otherwise they would stop new orders coming through. And I felt the same as you, my soul, my mind, my heart said that it didn't feel right, there was something wrong, so I didn’t give them my bank details. I have received a few more emails since, and I have moved them to the spam folder as etsy's advise, but I have not been able to speak to customer service, it seems that the plafform is totally automatised, no real people on the other site 😢. Im so glad you shared your experience 😊
Exactly, etsy will never send an email like that to you with a link. All that's needed is if we go to our accounts directly and look. That instantly verifies that the contact was a scam.
I tried Etsy and received junk from China, supposed to be handmade but the material was really shoddy and I couldn’t send it back once I received it. I’m also anti Amazon these days because it has become a cesspool of scam.
Sadly, a lot of shops have infiltrated Etsy selling cheap replicas they bought on sites like Temu, Shein, or AliExpress. I have had a jewelry shop on Etsy for over 10 years and it makes me sad to know that many people genuinely believe they are getting handmade stuff from those shops. Not to mention that it hurts small shops like mine. There is a lot of good stuff to be had on Etsy but as a customer, you have to do a lot more research these days to ensure you are getting the real thing. The old rule still stands: if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
It’s hard to know if anything is really one-of a-kind or sold all over Temu. I bought something expensive on Etsy and about a month later I saw the same item on Temu for $1.28
@@brenda121143Amazon has gotten bad with 3rd prty sellers who send bait and switch merchandise. You see the picture of an item, but the item the person "gets" is not the items shown in the picture. It might be similar, but it's usually a much cheaper, shoddy product, and NOT what's shown. That's actually illegal, and called "bait and switch". There are laws about false advertising, but Amazon has not been holding these people accountable. Most of the problems "of course" is items coming from China. Items coming from the US, can be challenged and actions taken. But, going after a seller in the other country is impossible. But, they shouldn't be allowed to sell any more after several complaints. Jmo. BUT.....Something HAS to be done, because it's getting worse all the time.
Thank you so much bringing this to light. I have been contemplating opening up an Etsy account and for people like myself who have no experience with this sort of thing, your words of wisdom are so invaluable. Thank you
Thank you for sharing your experience in detail. I was subjected to the same thing last week. I had already entered my card details on the form, and then I was asked to open a Revolut account. At that moment I had a light bulb moment, I checked on Etsy communities. The message there is that this is a SCAM, cancel your card now. I did that immediately. I felt gullible and stupid. I don't think I will continue to open that shop now. Every day I receive messages from scammers. Thank you so much.
1. Etsy could’ve been hacked. 2. You could have a malware on your computer that mirrors other sites and track your keystrokes. Check what type of antivirus program is on your computer. Just beware that it can be difficult to clear malware. This can happen on any site that requires payment information. So in short make sure your pc or anything you use to access the internet is protected. I’m glad that it worked out for you.
This is a super common scam on Etsy right now - I'm sure they will find a way to combat this and then another one will pop up. Seems like a constant game of cat & mouse.
Thank you for such an informative video on this scam. I am a 63 yr old lady, who wants to open an Etsy shop with my "left-over" materials from years of outdoor art/craft shows selling my wares. Bad weather and time setting up for too many years stopped this mostly, so I thought about Etsy, but now becoming fearful due to this. I am so happy you stuck with your gut feelings, wow, that was so close. I had an experience, not on a selling platform, but after I realized what was happening I felt like the big "I" for idiot, I felt like I was wearing a big scarlet "I" across my chest, stating how stupid I was until that lightbulb went off. The lightbulb was dim at first, but became a high voltage spot light and I was able to get away from the situation and change username/password regarding my money. Thank you again for this video, saying a prayer it is smooth sailing from now on. Happy crafting to you!
God was speaking to you with Urgency! I’m glad you listened to your gut! It’s scary how savy these scammers are. It’s also good that you read all the information Etsy gave you on the ways they will communicate with you and things they would never do. Too many of us move with haste and do t read those items. They are boring but they give us the tools we need
Thank you, Karen, for this video. I think of social media sites, as a residential neighborhood (albeit a global one). You noticed someone who was up to no good snooping around trying to steal something from you. But you didn't fall for it, and now, you're letting all of your neighbors (us) know about this and warning us to be careful, be on the lookout, and keep your guard up. This is one of the great things about social media sites like this one: Helping one another. I've been considering starting an Etsy shop to sell my handmade jewelry and accessories, so I've found this video to be especially helpful. I will probably still go with Etsy or maybe consider Shopify (I'm still deciding). If these "people" would take a fraction of the effort they use to do BAD, and actually do something GOOD, they would be successful. Once again, Thank You for sharing your experience with us. I am so glad you followed your intuition. If not, it could have had disastrous consequences.
I rarely comment on anything but I feel so strongly about this. Girl, you should proceed on with Etsy and anything else that you want to do in this life because your intuition is fully on point!! If you listen to that every time like you did this time, you will have no issues. I have very strong intuition like that with those same response symptoms and it has never been wrong. As a child and a young adult I always thought everyone had that. It was not until much later in life that I realized that not everybody does. It’s a superpower for sure! I’m glad they didn’t get you! I know that was scary. Tfs!
Hi , first of all, I as an American Black woman & retired librarian , I have been following you for at least a year, or more when you left England. Your work is awesome. You’re a great domestic machine quilter. Your work is beautiful. In June or July, the one time that I attempted to make a purchased from the same company, my account got hacked 4 times in one day. (the scammers tried it again the following month. Thank God my Credict Union is wonderful. I received every penny back. Needless to say, I will never fool with that company not even as a customer. I am a prayer. I thank God that prayers touch your spirit. No, you are not the only one. Honestly, I didn’t feel comfortable making the small purchase. Follow your spirit. You are blessed. Thank you for sharing. I am not a commenter but I had to in this case. B-Blessed
Thank you for commenting it’s greatly appreciated we have to be super careful these days thank you for sharing your experience the more we all share the more others are aware and we are one step ahead of the scammers thanks for following me all this time, very joyful to hear. Blessing to you and your family.
Glad you listened to that internal message! I hate scammers. You're not gullible, they play on your need to be secure with your business. Just came home from watching The Beekeeper and had a discussion about scammers w/ my hubb. There are so many, glad they didn't get you!
I had this happen to me. They said I needed to verify my account again or my store would be closed. I checked to see my store was verified and told them I would be reporting them. They stopped immediately. And like you, these messages caused a great questioning in my heart. Something felt very wrong for me too.
I just had that happen to me too. I've contacted etsy and all the did the first time was list of how to spot scam. So I checked messages from etsy too. The message wasn't from etsy. The scammers said they would shut my shop. Then they said they already shut my shop down. Which it isn't. I put messages in spam and told etsy again. Etsy needs to have chat available because the scams are annoying. I had another scam in December trying to make a free website if can give them info to start it. Nothing is for free. I have been on etsy since 2007.
Wow, praise God! I’m glad you didn’t get scammed. I know this feeling you’re describing! I’m glad you made this video, not only to warn others about the scammers on Etsy, but also to listen to the feelings in your body, don’t ignore them. May God continue to watch over you, protect you, and guide you!
Thank you for the warning and sharing with us. This is an important message, I’ve shared to Facebook. I hope Etsy is able to shut down these internet criminals, with the help of cyber cops. It’s sad to me that some people that are so gifted and talented. Use it for evil.
I wish that many other people would have this intuition! You did so good! Maybe if more people would realize this and really read the text when it says "do not share this code", and realize it's a scam, then these scammers would go away! These and other scams account for hundreds of millions of dollars lost to scammers each year! This really needs to stop. It's at the point that countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, India and Pakistan need to have all communication cut off to the rest of the world! Once business's and countries start losing millions of dollars, maybe then those governments will do something to stop this.
Wow your intuition worked impressively, and you recognized the signs-via feelings in the body-right away! How it’s supposed to work but not everyone gets the message so clearly. Good for you!
Well done on listening and thank you for sharing. A while ago I saw a sponsored ad for a leather store and because I wanted a wallet for my hubby, I clicked on the link to look at the website. There were no red flags on the site, but because we have a local shop of that chain, I went there in person. As soon as I said I'd seen there sale advertised online, they said that was a scam, that their website had been meticulously copied, and they'd had multiple people coming to the shop complaining of not receiving their purchases ... because they'd been scammed. So now, I do an independent search for the company website, and also search for scams on that name e.g. Etsy scams.
So scary! This same scam has happened to 2 people close to me, but not using Etsy, just calling and saying they were from their bank and they needed the code. The exact same sequence of contact that you describe. There are a lot of people out there that just suck. My guess is they have a tracking malware on your computer OR they have hacked your email and can see everything you are doing. My thought that maybe they also have some kind of data bank that can access new shops but more likely I'm thinking it's on your computer or some of your accounts. So glad your intuition saved you! Always trust it! Thanks for sharing, you are going to save people with your video!
Same thing happened to me when I opened my 2nd Etsy shop a couple of months ago. Because I've been on the platform I was pretty sure it was a scam. Thank goodness for the "From Etsy" in the messages, because when it showed no messages from Etsy, then I knew for sure. And yes - listen to that inner voice!! Please make sure to report then to Etsy, and if you receive emails, report those too. I received several messages & emails from the scammer for about a month after but Google caught them each time so I didn't even see most of the emails. But please don't feel stupid - this is a believable scam, I don't know how they can tell when someone opens a new shop - but really they are not that smart, because most of us will think twice when we get a sale within minutes!
This happened to me last week when I opened a second shop. They asked for my email to verify the account and I gave it without thinking. Then they said they sent an email to verify the account but when I clicked on the link it was asking for my bank info, and that is when I knew it was a scam. The account that sent me the email is no longer active so I am sure they create new accounts all the time.
@@44ARISEandSHINE44 Yep that is the exact scam that happened to me. I also gave them my email since I had just opened the shop, I hadn't verified that email address yet it made some sense. But yes, as soon as it asked for my bank account I decided to check my Etsy messages, then I knew - Scary stuff!
I've just posted my exact experience above and have the same question. How do these scammers know it is a new account??? They also sent me scam messages twice when I listed new items. How do they know that I have listed new items??? Very suspicious in my opinion !!
I’m sorry this happened to you! I’m not on Etsy, but I sell a lot on Facebook Marketplace and I have this type of scammer all the time! At first I didn’t know and went along with it, but like you I caught myself before it was too late! Now I can spot them immediately! Then I block and delete them! Trust your gut always! Thank you for posting this!❤
Whoa, that's super intense (scammer experience)! I just found your page and am delighted to have discovered a fellow creative soul on this platform whom I could see right away, has an authentic heart and places importance on maintaining a spiritual perspective. I feel nudged to share with you how your calming presence drew me into your story, immediately lightening my spirit (despite your having shared a distressing experience). Thank you for both that and for letting us know yet another way that those stinkin scammers may use to try to get us. Something has prevented me from getting it together and finally going through the process of opening up my own Etsy shop, and now i know why😲. I found your channel while watching videos about how they are basically scamming their own artists now, and it's such a shame! Think about all the customers who think they are shopping exclusively small business, meanwhile larger companies are setting up shops and falsely claiming to be small. I just learned about the horrors of design theft; that they're then saturating the market with the ARTIST'S original work, so the artist loses money. I'm glad i never get started there, but guess I'll have to find a diff, more suitable site now. Oh well🤷♀️ lol. Btw, I just subbed, but I'm not a quilter. I do basically er everything else i can get my hands on, except that. I hope you don't mind my joining your page, as i feel there's still much I can learn thru you 🥰
I’ve had my Etsy store for a couple of years & recently decided to focus on my shop again. I uploaded 5 products & over the space of 7 hours I had 27 messages from “Etsy” - thankfully I’d seen some warning vids beforehand & instantly tagged them as fraud then moved to spam & delete. Thankfully I’ve had no more messages but somehow they know for sure when you’ve uploaded a new product. Kinda puts me off wanting to do the work needed for Etsy
I’m Soooooo glad you shared your story!!! I am a photographer and I was getting ready to open an Etsy account to sell images but not now.. looks like their website security is not very secure
Girl, I am so glad you didn't give them your code!! There are so many scammers out there. I have had scammers try to get information from me with my Google account so I am always very careful. Be safe!
You are certainly not alone! I actually received 3 messages from 3 different sources claiming to be from Etsy! Luckily it didn’t get very far, but they are out there just waiting 🤬 I’m glad you caught on before they got your money 🙏🏼 Thank you for sharing so we can see how easy it is for any of us to fall in their traps.
Thank you for posting this! I've subscribed to your channel! Scammers almost got me a couple of times and it's frightening! God Bless you and your family. Aloha and Mahalo from Maui!
First I am so sorry you have been put through this. Scammers are smart but there also very evil. You are not stupid, thankfully your a very intelligent Lady, who is working hard trying to make a living. This is going on all the time, so many are be caught out. So I thank you for sharing this. You should also tell your bank, just in case the scammer's find a way to use the information they got. Sending blessings to everyone, please be careful, safe & well. ❤🇬🇧
Smart Girl!!! Many people are having similar problems with Etsy these days. I heard about a case where Etsy is holding back $7,000 for over 3 months from one vendor! It's not a safe place right now. Definitely stay off.
It's great that you realized. But scammers know how to make things look like they are from etsy. Dont give up on etsy, but just be really careful, everywhere we turn now, there are those seeking to cheat and lie their way to success. I often think that if scammers just put all that diligence and ingenuity into real practice, they would all be fabulous successes and totally legally
Hi Karen. I thought about opening an Etsy account, but chose not too; because I didn't trust it like I would Spotify or amazon. Like you, my "gut feeling" or intuition was warning me not to.
I'm so glad you posted about your experience... and I'm sorry you had to go through that! Do you use a VPN? My computer security software, Norton, includes this Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. Whenever I do any banking or purchases online, I ensure that my VPN is turned on. Sometimes it gets kicked off (I'm on the computer usually 12 hours a day), so as soon as I turn it on I handle that kind of business, and then go on with my other projects. Norton does cost me about $140 per year (and I don't even have the guard against identity theft) but it's worth it. I've been with Norton for around 40 years (I was a computer nerd in the Air Force) and have never had any issues with it. Take care! When I *finally* purchase a sewing machine, I'll definitely look you up! =)
It looks like those scammers have HIJACKED ETSY and that itself is so scary. ETSY IS NOT PROTECTED and ANY experienced thief can do it. They are able to BYPASS any limit. Even though I always wanted to start an Etsy shop, BUT... because of these things and many other things going on I upto not to sell on Etsy. I'm soo happy you did not give them the rest of the info. Wow what a relief.
This happened to me about 2 months ago. I opened my shop and literally within 10 minutes someone was inquiring about an item listed and wanted me to email them information. I have multiple shops on Etsy so I knew this was suspicious. They are targeting new shops because the shop owners will be vulnerable and excited to make a sale. Lucky for me I just ignored it. With that said, I hope it doesn't discourage you from selling on Etsy. I have had great experiences. Good luck to you!
Very helpful, Thank you! 🙏 This is the scammers job, so don’t ever feel stupid. I’m so happy for you that you were able to hear your inner voice and God before anything happened. Why did you leave Shopify? I’ve been thinking going back and forth between Etsy and Shopify.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. It makes me wonder if the Etsy shop itself has been compromised. Always be leary of those messages that seem " in a hurry" that's a red flag.
You shouldn't feel silly. The scammers are really good at what they do, and very difficult to catch! What a state of things. Well done for responding your intuitions. I do hope your shop does really well.
Hi Karen. I experienced virtually the same thing so I am really happy to have come across your video. I found the experience particularly bad, not only because of the scammers but primarily because of the little support and clarification I tried to get from Etsy. When I mentioned the suspicious emails, Etsy advised me to not open them and simply drop them in the spam folder. I did this but then began receiving a banner requesting my bank info right in my Etsy shop! How does that happen? How can scammers infiltrate our very shops and post? How are our shops, with sensitive private info like banking info, so non-secure but we, the shop owners have go through a 2-step access protocol? I ended up closing my shop and am now contemplating other options. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊🇨🇦👋❤
I know what you mean, but unfortunately these messages just come from other Etsy users who send you a message claiming to be from Etsy. 😢 Luckily Etsy actually includes alerts so we just need to be very careful before providing banking details. Scammers know all the tricks though 😢
Thank you for that interesting story. I have received similar messages few time from the scammers. And I did not follow their link but instead I asked the question about that at Etsy group on FB. Crafters immediately told me that it was a scam and advised me to put the message in the scam folder. I did that. Also I googled and found the article about most common scams on Etsy. So do not worry so much any more. By the way your quilts are absolutely amazing!! And I noticed you have already made few sales! Congratulations and good luck to your shop!
I am so glad you did not submit that code. It is just so sad that people can't try and sell what they have worked so hard to make and someone tries to steal their money. Gid was with you for sure and he helped you learn from the experience to listen to your heart ❤️🙏
Wow. This just happened to me too, directly after opening the account. I actually never really loved the idea to open an Etsy shop, but then thaught hmm I don't want to live in rejection, so let's give it a try and see. But our intuition was certainly right. Also my account then got immediately suspended because my credit card didn't yet show 300 euros on it. And the support from Etsy was not very helpful eighter. So ya.. Better building my own webshop now with shopify 🐉💫✨ best wishes to you!!!
I’m glad you were not scammed. They phish n phish all day long. You need to put Malwarebytes on your PC and a really good anti virus. I even had to put malwarebytes on my hubby’s phone as he has Android and clicks on everything! I don’t have Etsy account but shop a lot everywhere. 😂😂Good luck to you. Please tighten security on you electronics!!
Comment #2: Etsy has terrible customer support service. There’s literally no one to respond in a case of need. I’ve been there and without them taking proper precautions to their money makers turned me off once before, as Etsy started off as a platform for handmade goods - NOT. I could never get seen among the Asian cheaper productions, or was scammed to pay to get seen at the top. Your story helped remind me why I’m not open.
I had a Shopify account and was almost scammed there. Luckily, I didn't fulfil the order as I kept saying to myself that it was too good to be true. It turned out that the card payment they had used was stolen. Thank goodness I listened to my inner intuition, where would we be without it. Good luck with your store... :)
Thank you for sharing your experience! Spreading awareness is a very good way to undermine these scammers and protect possible future victims. Knowing the types of scams out there does help reduce the likelihood you're gonna be a scam victim. This is a good reminder to NEVER ignore what your gut is telling you. Regarding your view that Etsy should always be ten steps ahead of these scammers, that's unfortunately not possible. The very nature of scams and scam prevention is that when one type of scam doesn't work, scammers come up with new methods and tricks. Law enforcement, companies and IT professionals are always bound to be playing catch-up, because no one has a crystal ball to be able to predict exactly what's going to happen in the future.
Share with me your thoughts about selling on Etsy, should I stay, or should I go, have you experienced anything like this? let's chat below.....
Bro, Doing good and Being good, does NO good. Prove me wrong.
This happened to me but I still went ahead, don’t let it put you off! At least you will be aware like I am now because I really almost fell for it as well. Etsy does need to do something about this though! The emails have slowed down now but within the first couple hours when you open it they bombard you.
You are not stupid! These people are so slick and slimy, if they would put this much work into good, imagine where the world would be!!
very ture
I say the same exact thing EVERY TIME I hear of a scammer! Go get a real job and do good in the world, right?
Also I should be very cautious with the Temu brand. I won’t touch them with a barge pole. 🤔🧐
That is exactly what I say all the time! Imagine where the world would be indeed!
I cannot believe this! Thank God you were inspired, Crafty Quilting Design!!!
@marythomas5656 me too!
I find it super curious how a scammer got your info at the time you're opening an account?? So it sounds like Etsy has a breech in their security and someone working on the inside is working in real time scamming people. Thank you for reporting this so others can beware.
It could be that they are after newly opened shops? 🤔 With all apps & software, one can track stores that are recenrly open...🤷
That definitely sounds like a possibility, that's why if it happens to anyone else, they should have links disabled and make copies for law enforcement. This is a federal issue because it is interstate commerce and that would fall under FBI, but your local law enforcement should be able to take the claim for you.
I totally agree with the assessment it's too incidental..
Exactly
Yes the scammers they copy and paste any company and paste it on google so anyone can click on it and once you put in your information they go you
The biggest red flag in any such message is urgency - if they claim you need to act *right now* or something terrible will happen, then beware.
Yes, as well as very well known that Etsy hardly replies to their customers...🤷
Those slimy scammers not only wanted your $500; what they really, really wanted was your account details so that they could drain your account. I’m so glad you listened to your inner voice. 99% of the time, it’s spot-on.
Very true correctly said
If Etsy really cared, it would be working secure their site from scammers taking money in its name.
Etsy cannot prevent impersonation, nobody can. The same for spoofing. We need to keep our eyes peeled and always suspect a fraudster.
I’ve been on ETSY since they started. Ever since they were sold, nothing but headaches and BS from them.
That the summer if you don’t do what they want that how they get you
I agree they suspended me for no reason or way to appeal
@@Valleygirl4lifeCreations same! I appealed and they said I’d violated terms and conditions. It was my own designs made by me. Thankfully this was a secondary account.
@@Kellycreator. That would have made me so damn mad!
Thanks for putting your story out there
I haven't sold but one thing on etsy. Latest is no sales, so I probably won't renew it.
Your so right.❤
The fact that you figured this scam out, makes you a very smart woman! Thank you for sharing this almost nightmare with us.
YES....God is good. He does watch over us.
God bless you, please be aware of them ass holes.
I don't think these people are just sitting around. It is a business. A big business with call centers.
As a Retired LEO, I know scammers keep lists of people who fell for their scams, or even listened to their pitch.
And law enforcement rarely does a darn thing about it...
You’re definitely not stupid; you’re honest, and you would never try to scam someone, so you’re unsuspecting, and that’s what these creeps count on 🙏🏻
Very well said thank you
You are the second Etsy seller that I have listened to who has experienced encounters with retched scammers. It sounded as if the other person was scammed. Her store was cloned. Praise God you were not scammed. You were very wise to listen to the voice of God.
Cloned?? How can that be?
@@sharonc7031 I'm just sharing what I watched. I no longer have an Etsy shop
Well I never, but Facebook accounts get cloned so I suppose stores have it happening too I guess.
You are so welcome!
Oh Karen! That is SO frightening. I’m so grateful everything is ok with your bank, and I hope you reported this directly to Etsy. I’m actually breathing a sigh of relief for you. Thanking The Holy Spirit for His warning💕🙏🏻
I hope so too!
So glad u listened to your inner voice n stopped. Thank you for putting this video out so others can beware and stay alert for these scammers thieves that work so hard to STEAL hardworking peoples money 😡😤
Your story lines up so well with some RUclips videos I have been watching about scammers! Thank goodness you listened to your intuition.
This happened to me when I ordered some seeds thru etsy and then I got hacked.
That part
So very well said! :) ♥
Wow disgusting
I fully agree, and karma is a real thing!
All that you said is correct
Beautiful encouraging message thank you for the support.
you did the right thing. i submitted the code and my acct started getting deductions in the hundreds several times until someone at my bank caught the scam happening and put a block and reached me immediately. thank God. it is a total scam. in my experience it was not Etsy but a yarn company from England. i make crochet produucts. this really hurt me so very much that people can be this cruel. these craft items are a gift of love because of the time it takes to make a piece there is no price that can cover all that time. i make blankets but now i just donate my pieces to chemo centers and homeless shelters. these scammers dont just hurt a bank account they hurt you to the core. i am so happy you are safe from them. i too had that feeling of do not give them this code number but then thought i need to stop being so negative and paranoid and just gave the number; huge mistake. God bless you always.
What do you mean a yarn company from England? Can you please elaborate?
Thanks for sharing i will do that
So glad you got away!!
Bless you for sharing this to prevent others being scammed the same way
Thank you so much . I was going to open an Etsy account. NOT NOW !
Your time to share this video is greatly appreciated . Thanks again deb 🤓
Glad it was helpful!
thank you
So good of you to share your story. Alert and warn others.
yes is important they more we warned others the better for us all
Sweet lady! Bravo!
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been considering opening an Etsy store to sell my massive stock of quilting fabric. I’m not very tech savvy, so that’s been a stopper for me. Now I know I had best beware! Thank you SO much!!!!
May be we can work together how much do you have email me if you are interested
@@thelordismyshepherd1366 something is wrong with you
@@thelordismyshepherd1366 lol no worries I was wondering what I do lol
Thanks for your comment
I've been selling for a number of years (multiple shops), and it was about two weeks ago that exactly the same thing happened to me. I didn't get as involved as you did. I too felt as though something wasn't right and began to read HELP articles. I did reach out to ETSY, but all they ever seem to do is direct you to more articles to read. Know that these scams exist all over. You just have to do your due diligence to protect yourself.
Thank you. I decided not to join Etsy.
That instantly verifies that the contact was a scam.
thank you both
I tried Etsy and received junk from China, supposed to be handmade but the material was really shoddy and I couldn’t send it back once I received it.
I bought something expensive on Etsy and about a month later I saw the same item on Temu for $1.28
Ebay got so bad with shoddy stuff that is impossible to return , I closed my account that I had had for years.
Please explain more about scams with Amazon. I had not heard of this. Thank you
@@brenda121143Amazon has gotten bad with 3rd prty sellers who send bait and switch merchandise.
Clearly, you are not stupid! You are a very smart lady. More power to you as you prevailed the test. 🙏🏽
That sucks ares !
Good girl! You did the right thing. There’s so much dishonesty going on now🙄
That's a wonderful built in warning system you've got! Excellent job picking up the scam. ❤️
Yes! Thank you!
Tfs!
thank you very much I would be inclined to agree with as I look back in my life I had similar experiences.
Get to the point what happened?
I'm so sorry this happened to you. I love how God let's you know when things aren't as they should be. All the best to you in your business!
Thank you I receive in Jesus name.
Etsy scams.
Wow good tip
Thanks for sharing, you are going to save people with your video!
very correct i just didn't want to keep this to my self so others are aware. thanks for commenting.
Thank I feel better
@@Sub-515 You can filter search by most recent so they must be going through and clicking on items just listed, and finding new shops.
I hope you don't mind my joining your page, as i feel there's still much I can learn thru you 🥰
You are very welcome glad to have you on board but if you do decide to join Etsy just beware I’m still active but cautious on the site
It is so discouraging to hear stories of terrible people and what they do. Who can you trust anymore?
Your deeper self certainly knew something was off. Always good to listen to our gut.
Same here it’s very daunting
Thank you for sharing your experience. Spread the word anytime a scammer tries to get you. Expose them all!!!
I’m Soooooo glad you shared your story!!!
I am a photographer and I was getting ready to open an Etsy account to sell images but not now.. looks like their website security is not very secure
You are so welcome!
Girl, I am so glad you didn't give them your code!! There are so many scammers out there. I have had scammers try to get information from me with my Google account so I am always very careful. Be safe!
Oh wow!
You are certainly not alone! I actually received 3 messages from 3 different sources claiming to be from Etsy! Luckily it didn’t get very far, but they are out there just waiting 🤬
I’m glad you caught on before they got your money 🙏🏼 Thank you for sharing so we can see how easy it is for any of us to fall in their traps.
Good to know!
What almost happened to you sucks and I’m glad you weren’t hurt by it. Thanks for reminder that we need to remain diligent online and all around us.
Very true they would be super wealthy
I know that FEELING. I thank God he was watching over you.
I get FURIOUS😡knowing talented hardworking people - who just want to earn something from their talent - are being STOLEN from! Grrrrrr!
Yes, Scammers are very good these days. Always have to be on the lookout!
*Good on you for outsmarting the scammers!* And thank you SO MUCH for sharing your story to warn others! *Stay well and Blessed Be!*
You shouldn't feel silly. The scammers are really good at what they do, and very difficult to catch! What a state of things. Well done for responding your intuitions. I do hope your shop does really well.
Thanks for that, appreciate the support.
Agree, and they appear to do it right at the beginning to catch you off guard because you’re stressed with all you’re going through
Yes it all seems very wrong I do believe that Etsy really does not give a dam
Thanks for posting this video. I just opened an Etsy shop a few months ago. I'll be on the lookout for scammers now!
You were getting every sign from your guides!!!!! So glad you listened. Shame on ETZY for having an insecure system.
I know what you mean, but unfortunately these messages just come from other Etsy users who send you a message claiming to be from Etsy. 😢 Luckily Etsy actually includes alerts so we just need to be very careful before providing banking details. Scammers know all the tricks though 😢
Could be a hacker
Thank you for this video, to God Be The Glory! So happy you listened to his voice and was sensitive to the Holy Spirit ❤
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! So many scammers! We constantly have to be aware!!
Your story helped remind me why I’m not open.
yes, you are not the first to share this as it's not a handmade platform anymore. and lots of cheap stuff is being sold.
