      Well, perhaps after pruning this year we won’t get any from those trees but the following year the Portuguese say tenho muitas 😎🫒 she sure is and indeed but only because we want to 😃 that farm is beautiful as it is, I feel the more we do the more beautiful it becomes though 😍 love it more and more each day

    Excellent and hard work! How many trees do you have? Sam, your Portuguese is getting better and better. Congrats for the effort! The number 8 mushroom is called Parasol and it´s eatable. The others I don´t know.

      @jonnyandsamofficial  Год назад +1

      We have 156 oliveiras in total 😎 Awh thank you so much, I think we will start having lessons soon too 🤞 oh nice! Although I think we’ll play it safe and maybe plant our own mushrooms that we know are for sure safe to eat. We heard the Portuguese have a saying, you ask if a mushroom is edible, they say, yeah but you’ll only eat it once 😅

    Hi guys, what a fantastic harvest! How many olive trees do you still have to harvest? That's going to make some great olive oil, and don't forget that it's now worth its weight in gold.💰 It's amazing to see you working like that. Zeza help was invaluable. You're going to be the biggest farmers in the Fundão area in no time. Now... let's start practicing our Portuguese so we can become fluent, which will be very helpful in our business. Keep up the good work! 🦾🦾

      Muitas! 156 oliveiras existe na quinta 🫣 we hope so too, we’ve heard great things about the Cooperitiva 👌 ooo it’s going to take a while before we’re good at it 😅 just trying to learn as much as we can from the locals. Indeed! We are hopefully taking lessons soon 😃

    Sam if you want to eat the olives, how long does it take to prepare, l think they go in a salt brine. I love olives, oooh and olive oil, l know olives are very expensive here, especially oil, but worth it.
    Merry Christmas Jonny and Sam, crazy stupid summer here, either a heatwave or freezing, haha.
    No cyclones in my part of Oz, Qld has just had a big one, floods are terrible.

      Hey Aussie friend 😃 I always smile when I spot your comment. Thanks so much we had a great time with our first harvesting experience. Zeza’s recipe takes 4 months but I’ve also picked some more to do the farmerforfun way too 😎 I love olives too but I’m the only one in my family 😅 they’re all for me… well, that’s if they turn out ok 🙊 I think olive oil here is about €10 per litre at the moment. I guess yours has to be imported from Europe? Perhaps even Portugal this year. Wow! Sounds a bit strange we had crazy heat but also lots of rain and a couple of bad storms this year. The Portuguese were all saying it was an unusual year for weather. Oh no! Glad to hear you are safe but feeling so much sad and worry for those that have been affected ❤️❤️

    • @donnamaree2311
      @donnamaree2311 Год назад

      Actually $10€ would be roughly $20au, so about the same, we have olive growers here in Oz, but to buy the good italian or spanish oil, big dollars.
      I try and watch in my phone, l dont know how to comment thru telly haha.
      Take care xx

    0:50 - Cooperativa. 😉
    3:10 - I'm surprised you didn't know how olive oil is called in Portuguese. "Azeite" derives from "azeitona", which is olive in English. Please don't tell me you didn't know this last one too. 😄
    13:30 - Although it's a bit old and not in much use anymore, "bem-haja" is a good Portuguese word to have in your vocabulary to replace "obrigado/obrigada". Makes you sound like a very cultured person. 😉
    I noticed earlier in the video that Zeza also uses "tendes" a lot. It's a regional way of saying "tens", which means "you have" in English, as you probably already know. If you start picking up these regionalisms, in no time you're going to start speaking Portuguese like a true "beirã". 😄
    - Beirã: a person born in the Beiras.
    - Beiras: the upper regions of Central Portugal. There were three: Beira Litoral (Aveiro and Coimbra districts), Beira Alta (Guarda and Viseu districts) and Beira Baixa (Castelo Branco district).
    After watching how much hard work it took just for one olive tree, I have to ask: how many do you have?

    • @jonnyandsamofficial
      @jonnyandsamofficial  Год назад +1

      Cooperativa in Português but I do believe it’s cooperative in English unless it’s a name 🤷🏻‍♀️
      I know it is “Azeite” sim 😃 I wanted Zeza to say it for the camera because my pronunciation would ruin it 😅😅
      We love to use bem-haja but it does usually trick who you’re speaking to into thinking you’re fluent and then you become a bit stuck as they tell you a really long story to which we reply desculpe não perceber 😅🤦🏻‍♀️
      Ahhh “tendes” I didn’t hear that. It does make it more difficult when they speak with slang or an accent but as you say it’s good to pick up the regionalisms. Awh 🙊 we really hope so and we seem to have been really welcomed and accepted where we live.
      The first tree was a particularly good one so took us quite a while and we were finding our groove with the equipment and work but in total nós temos 156 oliveiras (is temos correct?)

    • @module79l28
      @module79l28 Год назад

      @@jonnyandsamofficial
      I only corrected you because you wrote "cooperitiva", it had nothing to do with the meaning of the word.😉
      Speaking of "azeite", let me enrich your vocabulary with three coloquial expressions that we use with that word:
      - Azeite (in music): cheesy.
      - Estar com os azeites: to be grumpy or in a bad mood.
      - Azeiteiro: a person with bad taste in fashion or who tries to be stylish but in a distasteful way. It can also mean "pimp".

      You should say "desculpe, não percebi" but don't worry, you'll get the hang of the verb tenses eventually. 🙂
      "Temos" está correctíssimo! 👏
      Wow, 156? How many times did Jonny have to go to the "lagar" to take all the olives?😲

    • @jonnyandsamofficial
      @jonnyandsamofficial  Год назад +1

      😅😅 you’re a picky one! Haha
      Oh that’s interesting, there’s many uses for many words isn’t there and actually the more I learn Português the more I dislike the English language 🧐
      We should be taking Português lessons soon so hopefully we’ll be learning all of that stuff but for now with the very simple and terrible way I speak it I seem to be understood… most times 😅 they’re usually very forgiving too and love that we try.
      Thanks so much for confirming, sometimes I use google translate to learn but it unhelpfully teaches me Brazilian 😅 so I like to check it’s European 🤦🏻‍♀️
      I’m just working on the second part of this video, hopefully we’ll post it today 😬

    Sam you are a intelligent chick,yes when the subject is masculine you say bom,if feminine boa.Never seen a foreigner reason logically like you hehehe keep absorbing everything you'll be perfect real quick!!Azeite=oliveoil,azeitona=olive,in arab it's zeitoun you see the similarity,we have lot's of arab words,the name Portugal in North Africa,middle east Turkey and Greece, means Orange.Because we introduced the orange to Europe in the 16 th century,and we started to produce oranges since then,now you produce oranges yourself on your farm,hehe nice video Sam thanks!!

      Why thank you so much 😃 I’ve been saying in these comments that the more I learn Português the more I prefer it and when I was translating this video with our friend Mariana I just felt sometimes there isn’t an expressive enough way to say in English with what you can say in Português ❤️ so I’m loving it and actually eventually I hope that in the not too distant future the majority of what I speak will be Português 🤞 oh wow I didn’t know that about the orange 🍊 speaking of oranges they are looking great now for their second harvest soon (not ours, our neighbours) we’ve planted 3 larangeira e uma clementina 😃 you’re welcome we hope you continue to enjoy our content
