P0456 / and they charge me for diagnostics, clear code and tell me to see if comes back. BS! of course it comes back. I usually clear the code with my scanner to get through inspection. / I can only assume they're not checking anything. / I've lost faith, now I try to do my own repairs but sometimes it might be nice to rely on a mechanic!
Good info. My mother has a 2010 Dodge Journey with 2 codes (P0456 & P0457). Check engine light & gas cap is on. Got a gas cap from the dealer & cleared codes. Both check engine light & gas cap came back. I’m gonna have my mechanic do a smoke test. Thanks for the info. 👍

Thanks for the video man! I replaced the leak detector, reset the cpu, and it popped up again. Just changed the purge valve. Gas cap looks good. If that damn code pops up again, guess I'll be replacing hoses and charcoal thingy
I just bought my 2014 Dodge ram 1500 with the hemi and I hadn't even got my license plate in the mail yet and started getting codes.. I called the dealer back and gave them crappy honest review online. Buyers beware 😢
i had this same problem for 4yrs and turned out to be seal at gas tank was bad causing my leak. Had whole gas tank replaced, has been good for a yr now and same code just popped back on.
I replaced the leak detector sensor that sends that code it’s $22 bucks on Amazon & that’s what my code reader said to do. I bet I saved my family $500

Can find a dern purge valve.. On my 2003 dodge caravan the dang engine light with code po456 came on.. leak dtection pump is not like that white amazon module and nothing visible back by the tank.. Where is.any of this... only thing I can find is leak detection pump underneath drivers side by where the lower control arm is.

This is rare, however, you might have a tiny crack that is located higher than 3/4 on the tank. Consider making your own smoke machine? or partially dropping the tank and inspect?

Im bringing it tomorrow to the mechanic but i just want to make sure im not jumping into mechanic when the code will eventually disappear if the driving cycle is not yet completed.
If fixed, the code should eventually clear, but it is usually cleared with an OBDII scan tool. 2010 and newer vehicles, the code will be permanent and need a drive cycle, but the light will go off.
Hey I just replaced the gas cap and pulled the battery for a few minutes. The check engine light went away and so did the trouble code except for a permanent one that my scanner cannot clear. What is a drive cycle and how long should it take? Should I even worry if the cel is not on anymore even though the code reader still shows the po456 permanent code?
@@AndSerts33 Each vehicle has a different drive cycle, which can be Googled to see what needs to be done. Usually, just driving around for 1-2 weeks will clear it, but if it needs cleared sooner, Google to see what the computer needs done.

This is the second time I've had this issue I bought a new gas cap a new charcoal leak detector pump and I bought a new solenoid I'm going to install all of them and see if this will fix it I hope so

I got my 2014 ram 3500 6.4 3 weeks ago and got a small evap leak code with a cracked heater return line hose before getting my license plate

I find when the charcoal solenoid goes bad you get a P0456 & P0457 together.
Dodge needs to start making better products. Too many problematic parts on their vehicles.
It's called "planned obsolescence" that's been engineered to keep us making costly repairs and buying newer vehicles.
It's not that bad, after 8 years, I expect something to start messing up on my RT.
Tbh most of this stuff is pretty simple once you figure out that it's minor and learn a little bit about the car.
My truck is twenty years old and this code just came up. I can live with that. Best truck I've ever owned.

Problems with the gas pump clicking off usually point to a vent valve issue.
