- Mike & The Mechanics -The Living Years (Live at Shepherds Bush)
Mike & The Mechanics was formed in 1985 by Mike Rutherford of Genesis as a separate project to run alongside his work with Phil Collins and Tony Banks. They released their eponymous debut album the same year featuring vocals from both Paul Carrack (ex of Ace) and Paul Young (ex of Sad Café) and had an immediate hit with Silent Running. This was followed a string of further hit singles and albums as gaps in the Genesis schedule permitted.
In 2004 the band reunited for the first time since the sad death of Paul Young in 2000 and released a new studio album Rewired. With Paul Carrack now handling all the lead vocals they went out on the road across Europe, culminating in this outstanding performance at London's Shepherds Bush Empire.
The show features four tracks from the new album, tracks from all their other albums and a greatest hits list that includes such classics as Silent Runing, Another Cup Of Coffee, Beggar On A Beach Of Gold, Over My Shoulder, Word Of Mouth and of course The Living Years.

Absolutely amazing voice and lyrics ❤
My daughter passed away and we never had a chance to tell each other how we feel and i wanted to tell her how much i love her i had this song played at her funeral so maybe other people would say how they feel before it's to late i cry when i hear this song i hope others will tell their loved ones so they don't have to cry
The BEST VERSION OF THIS MELODY. ❤
Searching utube for the best version of this classic ( think I've found it )🎶🎵🥁👏👌☘️💎
In my Opinion, if you don’t tear up during this song you really do have a “Hard Heart”….Gets me Everytime too ❤️
For those that didn’t make peace with their Dad before he passed, this song is incredibly powerful
I can relate whole heartedly. We had a major falling out. Didn't speak to him for 15 1/2yrs. He passed 1/22.
I was 21 when Dad died. I had just come from the hospital when they called to tell me he passed. I miss him. I see his strong hands when I close my eyes. Just one more hug... just one more hug.
Man this hits a chord with me, i wasn't there when my Dad passed away on the morning of November 19 1999. We got along but i wish I had more time with him.
This song is an anthem
This song brings back great memories.. Love 80s music..
I miss you Dad
Idk if I'll ever be able to listen to this song without tearing up, idk if I ever wanna not cry when I hear this amazing and well written song
Without question Mike Rutherford's lyrics are powerful, however Paul Carrack's vocals are what makes the song come breathing at you from his heart.
B.A. Robertson`s lyrics and song..Co write M.Rutherford..Carrack`s father also died, when Paul had 11 years..That s the one of the reasons, WHY song is so , so deep and Powerful..Have a nice time, and God Save you, all..
Love all of Paul Carrack’s songs, but I’ll pay full price to see him in a concert just for this song!
I have. Believe me. You need a hankie.
i was lucky to have a really great dad who was my hero , and i was there with him when he took his last breath , i feel so sorry for those who wasn't so lucky as me , god bless you all ♥
Was fortunate to say "see you soon" shortly before both my Parents passed away. Hell on Earth when you are doing it - A beautiful memory to hold in your Heart. Love You Eva and George Larking. Your Teachings, LOVE and Support, remain with me everyday.
Paul sings with all his heart as he did in 1989. Still pulls on the heart strings. Absolutely fabulous.
I could NEVER be in this band and have to sing these lyrics. Tug at the heartstrings??? I'd be crying like a child!!! I'd be a basket case.
I have always thought that Paul is one of the best male singers ever. I just love his voice - it's so flawless and he sings so effortless.
I can listen to this over and over. I will share this one on my FB page as I did the entire concert...but this is such a moving standout. It deserves a separate post.
One of the best songs ever produced has that special message for all of us to remember
My Uttmost Respect To Mike and The Mechanics.
🫡🇯🇪🫡
This song reminds me of my son that passed away PD I should tell him to listen to this song
I miss you Dad
My father passed away in 1985. My daughter was born the following July. I could swear I saw his spirit in her tear. Never spoke with him very much, I loved him, wish I had told him... In The Living Years
he could feel it and he always by your side.
RIP.
Even if one didn't say it, the parent feels it.
Beautiful, Ben. The opposite happened to me. Our first grandchild was born and my father passed away later that same year.

Not many songs bring a tear to my eye but this one always does.
Beautiful. I so miss the bands that actually had amazing lyrics.
Reminds me of the pain I feel pertaining to my own relationship with my old man. There’s still time and the memories still remain strong.
One of the most powerful songs I've heard makes me think of the people I've lost especially my mum and wee sister and the most recent one was my nephew Grahame who died at 48yrs old such a loving funny laddie always singing and would have gave you his last if you needed it his big brother Billy and the rest of us are still grieving for our loved ones mum you were my rock and my friend carol you were the baby of the family Grahame you were a loving nephew right up until you died miss you all so much rip to yous all xxx

This generation is missing everything that should be right. Our country is being decimated under us and our children will suffer. WE NEED to TAKE it FORWARD!
Such a sad heartbreaking song.He is right,Take the time to listen,That is why the Creator gave us 2 ears and one mouth.Listen harder than you hear.Listening leads to greater understanding.

Perfect ending song for American Horror Story 1984 ♥️
Bloody awesome is all I can say!!!!!
I had many differences with my Dad, it wasn't until my 30s that i resolved them, sadly at 49 i lost him.i wish he was still here, i have so much more i want to say.
This song made me resolve those issues and difficult times we had when i was a child wat back when this was released.
Do it today, go see him, son or daughter go to him and sort it, then enjoy your time you both have left together.
RIP DAD (John)
Thanks BA Robertson (check the writers version) it was his experience in the lyrics he wrote. just copy and paste this (ba robertson living years above ) and also you will hear the name of the young babys real name from the song, and there is a surprize at the end of video(i wont tell you,it will spoil it), you think this version makes you cry watch this one the way it was meant to be.
reminds me of my dad i miss him
Paul Carrack, you & your Barber worked out a great look for your face. 💈♂️✅
All the boys including me are missing their fathers
Miss you pops
geweldig mooi en gevoelig, a good Easter message
Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door
I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Oh, crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got
You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defence
Say it loud (say it loud), say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts
So don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be okay
So say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
Because it's too late, it's too late (it's too late) when we die (oh when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years
Say it loud, say it clear (oh say it clear)
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late (it's too late) when we die (it's too late when we die)
To admit we don't see eye to eye
So say it, say it, say it loud (say it loud)
Say it clear (come on say it clear)
Amo esa canción 💙
