Speaking of 3D printing in miniatures, Privateer Press has moved to 3D printing for all of their Warmachine Mark 4 models.

It's funny how polarizing model making is. It's one of my favorite parts, and part of how I justify spending extra on GW kits rather than 3D printing everything.

Generally, I just want to get to painting as quick as possible so building a kit is an obstacle for me. Occasionally though, If I'm feeling it, I will sit down to just build something fun, as long as I'm not trying to rush to painting it's not so bad. I think I'm still in the minority though, it seems like most people like building as well as painting.

I'm all for building models. I enjoy (generally) the process. It's kind a zen experience. Kitbashing, however, I HATE. I (almost) only build things as per the instructions because kitbashing just turns building models into a chore.

The most fun I've had has usually been when I'm trying a new thing, and it goes off without a hitch. It gives me a kick of endorphin, because I get excited over the possibilities for this new technique or material. For example, the first time I tried to make a stone building with XPS, feeling the satisfaction of putting in that stone pattern and then painting it. This went very well thanks to all the people who've made tutorials on the subject, so I had a pretty clear idea of what to avoid. A close second is the simple act of kitbashing two or more boxes of minis into something new. :)

GW could use a technology called slide moulding to give their guns hollow barrels but it adds complexity (and therefore costs) to the tooling and manufacturing. I gather that the Baneblade tank kit might include slide moulded parts but generally it's not something you see in GW kits. It is sometimes seen in scale model kits though.

The most fun I have in the hobby is when I get into a flow state when painting or when I'm really satisfied with a finished section or whole miniature. Maybe in the future some of the most fun moments will also be on the gaming side

Some of the most fun I had was this weekend. Making my first bits of terrain for starwars legion from foam and trash bits. Loved doing something new and low cost for error. Brent I have really enjoyed the twitching wookiewooo

The Necron army I'm working on was kind of my special plan. But only because when it's done I'll theoretically have a fully painted army, we'll see how it goes though lol. Nothing really outside of that though, just keep pluggin away at videos :)
