- Nioh 2 is another rock-hard slice of Dark Souls-esque samurai action, but what could be tougher than Ellen's fiendish Nioh 2 quiz? Plus Luke describes his woes grappling with the first boss in the game.

Show of the Weekend! Luke describes his Nioh 2 woes, before submitting to Ellen's gruelling quiz on that very same game. Enjoy, and may you all have great weekends -OX
If this had been Benny, Ellen would have just said he was making excuses.
Thanks for making these videos! These are really the highlight of my weekends!

Guitars: and once you do get the chords down, THEN you have to figure out how to move individual fingers inside the chord to get the notes you want! Something I still can’t properly do.

"also the horse shoots out like these little emojis at you and you have to run away from the emojis and if the emojis hit you...you get really hurt"

It legit sounds like someone describing a nightmare they had. "And then there was this thing with only one leg and one eye that kept hitting me with a hammer."
I did that fight he explained it perfectly me and my friend were very confused.
Sounds like the description a 5 or 6 year old would give of a dream he had or a movie he saw..
Ellen’s laughter warms my cold dead heart.
Little known OXfact. Ellen's laughter keeps Jane's evil manageable... for now.
All hail the Dark One.
All hail lord Jane.
That's half the reason I watch these videos is to hear Ellen's giggling

Everything going on in the world currently is kinda crazy and anxiety inducing.
But Ellen totally losing it in fits of giggles while Luke described "The horse with the saw boss fight" 😂
Is exactly what I needed and why I love this channel, thanks Oxtra. 👍💜
Ellen's reactions at Luke's misfortune. It's what friends are for.
And vice versa

It does at that. But kinda makes you wonder if he enjoys playing, cos in my experience, if you're enjoying it, it ain't pain. Or I've just been really good at lying for the last 23 years.

Luke asking the important questions I see.
Love to see this series come back once everything is back to normal
Anyone remember the Tom & Jerry episode where Tom gets a million dollars but only gets to keep it as long as he never goes after a mouse? That episode is all you need to know about Jerry's true nature.
#JusticeForTom!!!!
As a little kid I thought Tom and Jerry was hilarious, but as a teen I hated it, now as an adult I think Jerry deserves to be eaten and die. Yes in that order. Mauled until his broken mousey body is barely alive, then eaten before he gets to enjoy the sweet release of death.
Why? because if a mouse was in my house doing what Jerry does I'd kill it personally, and in many case I HAVE.

Luke: Like Kingdoms of Amalur... and some other games, some other GOOD games.
Ellen: 😲
Luke: I mean some OTHER good games
Ellen: 😤
Luke seems to really not like KoA. :p Or maybe he wants to not like it so he has a reason not to play it?
Hard to belive this was the last Show of the Weekend from the before times.
The hardest task of all - Convincing Jane to stop human experimentation.
Just show her there's a new character creator. No worries.
_Impossible doesn't mean really difficult boys. Really difficult is winning a nobel prize; impossible is stopping the Jane_
Your inappropriate comment has been reported to the highest of high, the holiest of holies. The human experimentation will end when there's no longer valid gains to be made. All hail the Dark One.
All hail lord Jane.
@@dhotnessmcawesome9747 On a possibly unrelated note where did the pixies go?
I felt like Luke's description of his time in Nioh 2 was going to end with "And it was all a dream...or nightmare..."
3:26 wow this boss isn't horsing around
Yeah, this boss has teeth. Some of which aren't in his mouth!
He really should rein in that behavior
These opening sketches have been on point recently!
And there's nothing pointier than a gullet full of broken glass!

I can hear Chief from Street Outlaws. Just because we're dumb***es, don't mean you can be too.
Yesterday, Luke was finding a good horse.
Today, he talks about a bad horse.
Unrelated, but happy Pi Day!
I'm genuinely not sure if i hallucinated that from lack of sleep, everyone else saw the bipedal horse demon sneeze emojis right?
.....no.....
Are you ok?
@@varunchaturvedi2581 Yeah pretty sure it was coughing up the ghosts of it's previous victims. Definitely not the same thing as what Luke described. :p
Don't be absurd. Now go get some sleep...
I love the idea of Luke coming into to work over the week, just subtlety fuming over nioh 2 but refusing to talk about it until show of the weekend for dah contentz, and Ellen just waiting all week for the eventual venting
Loved your Playstation Access cameo this week!!
Also, Bless you Luke, for suffering through Nioh 2 for our enjoyment!
"We read all the comments," says Luke, his expression haunted.
"What's the safe distance to fall into a haystack?" Well, Luke, according to Ezio Auditore, it's any distance... as long as you fall into a haystack.
As someone who has actually fallen into a haystack.... unless you're doing a stunt fall, I'd recommend no more than 20 feet.
@@marhawkman303 how did you fall into a haystack
@@CodaBlairLucarioEmperor oh, one of my cousins used to use loose hay as cattle feed. I fell off the truck while we were unloading it. Yeah loose hay on metal does not have traction.... It wasn't really a long fall. wouldn't recommend it though. But I wasn't doing a stunt fall it was me actually slipping on loose hay and falling for real.
15:00 Confirmation Luke lives in the Animus. 500 feet into a haystack, indeed.
"We read all the comments."
Screen goes monochrome, "The Sound of Silence" starts playing...
14:30 I'm guessing Luke summons it with his watch. ;)
Clariño D. Marc, wonderful throwback ^_^
August 2021: I'm here to visit our old friend the purple couch. More than a year since we've seen you, buddy. Maybe one day the release schedule will get more robust, and then we'll be able to see the occasional Chatty Couch Session again. Until then, it's just good to look back and remember you. (Assuming you weren't Mike in disguise this whole time -- the Oxtra lore gets weird sometimes.)
EDIT: One week later, and Show of the Weekend is back, bay-bee! WE MISSED YOU, COUCH! AND HUMANS!
The cat in Nioh 2 is called a Scampuss, it's supposed to buff your character (I'm not sure what it buffs though, but probably defence), it also damages enemies for a small amount (around 30) but tends to do high Ki (stamina) damage as well. If you enter a Yokai realm its form changes into a pufferfish cat (described in game) which I suspect may do a little more damage than normal.
Luke, as someone who teaches guitar for a living, literally everyone feels the same way 😂
That said, let me give you Skype lessons so I can teach you why guitar teachers show those chords first! Not gonna be able to cover that in a whole comment!
Is it to filter out the weak?
Spoon Of Doom Well, OBVIOUSLY, but that’s not the only reason 😂
Instead of getting his Charizard to land, Luke plans on asking it to just DISAPPEAR mid air and let him fall XD
Nioh 2 looked so complex on the video you did. So many different playstyles, magic options and everything. I can imagine playing a huge part of the game before realising "oh, I can do this?!"
I really feared for Luke's life for a second when he said "other, good games"
Luke in 2020: "We've got tons of live shows coming up"
Me, watching in 2021: "I don't think you do"
Adopting this quiz as a fun date ice breaker! Complete and unchanged, with all the situational references to Nioh 2 intact.
Got recommended this video five months later. Oh boy has a lot changed - the studio, the pre-Bloodborne Luke. Ellen’s laugh never ceases to warm my heart tho.
Been watching this channel for the last two years. SO GOOD.
Luke: "guitars should have the twelve notes on one string and then start higher on the next one."
The guitar community: "yes Luke. It does. That's how guitars work." XD
I love watching you guys play/talk about these hard games, cuz I have a love/hate relationship with them and it makes me feel less bad about sucking at them. So relatable!
I have just left London a week ago after about ten years of not being there and I have walked some of those places that have been mentioned! I loved walking by the Thames, both during the day and in the evenings when all the lights shine. The Shard in low cloud cover glows like a supervillain's lair!
I love the quizzes and crafts you guys do and the openings
"when i beat the saw-horse"
Thats how they come up with boss ideas now, next we're going to see a dog covered in popping kernels that it shoots at you and you get "real hurt"™ and its going to have a cool name but we'll all know a corndog the moment we see it.
I had the same thing happen to me at 10 years old, I gave a girl a flower and the teacher made it a huge scene that was soul crushing
Wonderful show, as usual! I really appreciate Luke talking about how challenging the guitar is (especially the hand strength) I've always been self-conscious about how challenging it is for me, and just thought I wasn't very good. Glad I'm not the only one XD
Wow was always a fan of the channel and you two. But now, you even feel more relatable. A silly cast of friends sharing games and "wonderful" memories of how "great" school is. Love you guys. Keep on with the amazing work
Damn! What a trooper, Luke! Managed to get the whole bottle down without even wine-ing a little bit!
Man. This episode was a great reminder that there is absolutely no “side” to you two, is there. Theres a lot of goofy platonic affection between you and it makes features like these an absolute joy to watch.
11:25 Luke sees his life flash before his eyes
I'm with Ellen, even having seen the footage everything Luke is telling us seems unlikely. Although Ellen's infectious laughter might be coloring my opinion slightly.
I work for IBM in Ireland, and occasionally get to work out of the IBM office on Southbank and always make sure to leave time for a walk along the Southbank. It's great.
"and you get really hurt" I love how Luke still describes games like a teenager XD
More like a six year old. What kind of teenagers are you hanging out? Teenagers are almost never adorable.
Thank you for sharing your heart-touching embarrassing stories from your childhoods, it's never easy. Please keep making excellent content and never stop being yourselves. Lord knows I'll need it to keep me sane during my 2 week quarantine.
I know that bit of Hammersmith! I used to row on the very bit of river you showed a picture of!
Ellen was especially giggly during this episode, I wonder if she drank some of that wine before Luke swallowed the bottle
Ellen's so adorable especially when she laughs! Half of the reason why I watch these videos 😁
Just want to show my appreciation for the timing of the cut on Luke eating the wine bottle. That was great.
Thank you guys for making me laugh! That review with Luke and Ellen was hysterical! 🤣 I really needed a good laugh. 😄 I love you guys!! 💕
I've been going through a lot the last 2 years and Ellen's giggling in the background when I'm trying to do things helps a bunch. (Especially when I look at the screen and Luke has started looking at the floor.)
14:53 Luke: What's the safe distance to fall in a haystack? 200 feet? 500 feet? I don't know, it's something like that.
Assassin's Creed, what have you done to this man?
Ellen's laughter is so infectious. It really brightens my day and I can't help but to smile with her. She's so great. 😄
While guitar is my primary instrument, I started on piano and that’s still how I think about music. Also, I have the, “yes, guitar is normally this hard” talk with all my students.
“When do I not need a ghost tiger?!” I defy you to find a more thought provoking question.
"He's back!! He's got a saw!!!" Literally my favourite outside xtra moment of all time!"
It's okay Luke we all have embarrassing stories like that time I mistook a ziploc bag of frozen chopped up chunks of banana for a ziploc bag of mini corndogs...Let's just say that after being in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes the whole house needed some airing out.
baking bananas is fine... I'd peel them first, also putting them on a baking tray at 400 for 15 min is too much cook time.
Hmmm maybe a multi-layer coffee cake? pour a half-inch layer of batter in the bread tin, place banana bit, repeat until pan is full?
I speak from experience when I say that there are much worse culinary mistakes to make, suffice to say, opaque bottles should always be labelled
Did anyone else think Assassins Creed instead of Twilight when asked to pick between Edward and Jacob?
I never really got into that series. Yeah, so I thought the same. :D
20:18 oh Luke, buddy... Hittin me in the feels... Something similar happened to me around the same age!!! You made it buddy youre on the internet now everythings ok... ;)
Also i cant wait for Nioh 2 on PC!
Knowing how much you both enjoy Les Mis, I thought I'd share that today I started my rehearsals for Les Mis
Alex Richardson congratulations!
Ellen giving luke much support while he is describing nioh 2 gameplay luke the laughs will give you the encouragement you need to beat the game
God Ellen's laugh when listening to Niohs description just made my day
Luke: We see it all!!
Luke going full Sauron there, never go full Sauron.
Luke: no comments or art
Me: What! That’s my favourite bit!
A sawhorse, huh? If I was more clever I could come up with a carpentry joke, but alas, I am _knot_
You just need to BUILD yourself up to it.
Luke playing and Ellen giggling helpfully is precisely the way me (the Ellen giggling) and my brother (the Luke playing) play video games. It's a valid way to play!
Got stuck on the carousel of progress last December for four takes before they had us exit the ride, was legitimately the funniest part of my night, totally agree with Luke on that being my favorite ride
I love these two people so much.
The google stance:DD I love your show so much, it feels so lovely and homemade
I think Luke's estimates for surviving a fall into a haystack may have come from his experience playing Assassin's Creed
Ellen is right about Londons south bank. Go on the weekend, there's a food market that sells every type of street food-from paella to curries from Nepal to pizza and everything inbetween. Last time I went was last year, the Sunday of the August bank holiday, the temp was like 34 degrees. Also, i saw Ellen. She was with her mom n sister in one of the bars by the oxo tower. So yeah, that walk is highly recommended. As is brick lane in Whitechapel and the kings road in Chelsea.
You two are entirely too wholesome and sweet for this world. Don't ever change.
Ellen, samesies! Not with marco polo though, but sleeping lions. I had my eyes closed for a good 5 minutes before I realised they'd all left the room :(
14:38 "...Fortunately, there was a haystack below him. Unfortunately, there was a pitchfork in that haystack. Fortunately, he missed the pitchfork. Unfortunately, he missed the haystack."
this seems realistic actually. :D
"And then the horse picked me up and sawed me in half!"
"Sure, Mr Westaway."
*Gets put in straitjacket*
But he's right, Nioh 2 is hard as nails. I got the platinum on every souls-like game out there (even Demon's Souls and its endless hours of farming), but Nioh 2 really forced me to make tactical choices and adapt. I hated the burst counters at first, but pulling them off is beyond satisfying. IMO the beginning is harder than any of the other souls-like games and I'm glad that I've played the first game already.
Would you say it's better than the Soulsbornekiro games?
(I personally don't think so)
@@varunchaturvedi2581 A bit early to comment on that, as I only completed the first region as of now. Playing Nioh 1 and 2 back to back (replayed the first again as preperation), I mostly notice all the improvements and tweaks and it's understandably more polished than Nioh 1. What I appreciate about Nioh is that it's grounded in history and adds real historical figures into this crazy environment. That said, for me the From Software games were and are a cut above the rest. My favorite is probably DS3, but I appreciate every game for the atmosphere and uniqueness. Beyond excited to see how Elden Ring turns out. What is your favorite?
@@TheAbysswalker I personally love the three most recent ones (DS3, Bloodborne, Sekiro) equally, so I can't pick a favourite myself. I think, though, that if I looked at these games objectively (i.e. taking everything into account, like Combat, Music, Level Design, Lore etc. as opposed to just how much fun I had while playing), then Bloodborne would probably come out on top.
17:25 Luke, you might want to check out the Yamaha EZ-EG/AG, Casio MG-500, Jammy, or even the good ol' Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang controller. They're all MIDI input guitars with buttons on the neck instead of strings.
as someone who just started trying to learn the guitar, Luke's rant really spoke to me ahahhaha
"we're not making any radical changes...." then you realise this was the last show recorded in the studio.
Luke giving me 90s dance flashbacks. "This is the rhythm of the fight...."
How about a list: 7 most dangerous holes in the floor?? I sure did die a lot to a hole in the floor in Control last week...
Awesome oxtra. Thanks for being awesome
Luke: At least one reason why you were suddenly dealing more damage to the boss is because you were behind the enemy. You can see when it happens by the size of the numbers on-screen getting slightly bigger.
And as someone else already commented: You can stealth-kill if you have the right skill unlocked in the ninjutsu-tree. Can also recommend using bows and guns to pick off or weaken enemies with headshots before engaging.
But it sure is a hard game, (like it's supposed to be) even for those of us who've played a lot of the other souls-like games :) Enjoy it, hope my advice helps!
It's so refreshing when someone rightfully acknowledges that Jerry is the actual worst, and that Tom is unfairly set upon. Stupid smug mouse. Poor bullied cat. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk ^^
Feel like I should add, Luke, in the game-play of Nioh 2 it looked like you only use low stance, middle stance is a good stance to use often as it allows for blocking and parrying and is a bit stronger with the attack, I believe you would end up having a much better time switching your sword stance to the middle stance which is located at the bottom right of the screen. Hope that helps
Ellen, that happened to me, too, but while playing Hide and Seek! I was hiding... and thinking I was doing an amazing job... until I came out to find everyone else had left.
Agreed with Ellen on not forgiving these people though" Revenge will be had!
My recollection of the riverside walk in Hammersmith is that it's 98% dog poo. But that was nearly a decade ago so maybe they've given the area it's ten-yearly clean since then.
