Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of the criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies - Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) - amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens. When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), The Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and The Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and brings justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

I like how the Joker figured out the Riddler almost instantly, but actively made his answer inflammatory so that Batman wouldn’t take him seriously. But he was right. He was 100% right.
He always is.
Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell?
The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell.
John 1:1,14 KJV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us,
1 John 3:8 KJV
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
John 1:10
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT.

Don't stand too close to the glass, Batman.
Also, the fact that they blurred out the joker's face was brilliant. It got the audience begging to see what this Joker looks like, yet at the same getting a glimpse at his features is also so terrorfying.

The “Silence of the Lambs” approach to the Joker knowing the villain before the hero does is a nice touch. In the words of Hannibal Lecter “That was good.”
ya but this actor sucks i don't like his voice, he sounds like a nerd, no charisma, not intimidating at all & the laugh sounds like spongebob, it's just annoying, not scary, even Leto had a better Joker voice/laugh & that's the lowest bar there is..Glad this got deleted, hope he's replaced in the sequel or does another voice that isn't so annoying.
I'd say this is more Manhunter that SotL. It's a very Will Graham/Lecter dynamic that these two have got
Hannibal saying "that was good" is crazy
It was also a potential plot for Nolans dark knight but was scrapped due to ledgers death
That was an especially nice touch Clarice, yours?
Pattison was actually very good at playing a young Batman still getting to terms with his chosen path. Slightly insecure under his costume, but still deadly serious enough to scare people. @@TheFirstCurse1I mean, yeah it kinda does lmao. He’s his most important villain, a direct foil to batman. It would be doing a disservice to tell the story of Batman without including his most important rival, the one who’s story is so closely woven with his own.

This was a dumb choice in my opinion. Matt Reeves stated in interviews that Joker was driven to madness due to the constant abuse because of his abnormal appearance due to his skin condition. As a fan of horror, batman and the joker, I favored this portrayal the most. Heath Ledger and jack Nicholsan are legendary and timeless but this Joker was absolutely terrifying here. It literally gave me goosebumps and chills in a matter of 5 minutes. Not saying he was the best actor over Ledger (and his acting was still great) but he was the scariest in my opinion. I want more of it.
I need more of it
@@shmoopdoop1409 Right, bro. Hopefully this joker makes another appearance and hopefully it's a much longer one.
Yeah, this one genuinely made my skin crawl. I really like Heath Ledger's performance and it's perfect for the tone of Nolan's movie and definitely helped redefine the character which is why it will always stand as one of the greats--- but people act like it's untouchable and it's sacrilegious to think anyone can ever compare to it or improve on it. This would not be the case if he hadn't sadly passed, imo.
These movies have a completely different tone and so it's a matter of preference and I prefer this more noir, realistic take. You can tell this performance lends from Ledger's characterisation and its all the better for it but the way this is played is just far more disturbing and sadistic to me than any other portrayal, imo.
I think Barry has been able to incorporate all the parts from other performances that people use to define the character and turn it into his own complete definition in just one short clip. That's some fantastic acting

Heath Ledger set the bar of joker so high that people expect a lot from every joker ever since but I think Barry will be a great Joker. His joker has less make up but is more creepy & realistic.

The first 2 minutes tells you The Joker knows everything about The Riddler. The last 2 minutes tells you The Joker knows everything about Batman.
I love how with the new movie, the characters aren't trying to top previous characters, they feel new/different from the others. That's why I don't really compare this batman to others they are all slightly different in their styles or stories but this one is especially different as he just starting out changes alot of himself. Riddler is also very different from past riddlers as he is more terrifying on a psychological level. I got goosebumps from him during some parts.

Ever since Heath Ledger they've been doing this "darker, more serious take on Joker". It's overdone and each have been an inferior version of the Dark Knight joker.
@@Krukmeister Because the Joker actually began as dark murdering serious character. It wasn't until the 60's that they changed his character into a comedic criminal. Then we got Cesar Romero and later Jack Nicholsons versions. Honestly, the only darker serious Joker we got canon wise was Ledgers. The relationship between Batman and the Joker is perhaps the best dynamic out of any superhero story. There is a codependency to their conflicted relationship. We have to, now that they have introduced him, he has to atleast be one of the antagonists of both the batman 2 and the batman 3.
That laugh gives me goosebumps, I’m dying to see more of this joker
As fun as a scene as this was, and as eerily realistic a take this is on Joker, I'm glad they deleted it. Joker's comments made it seem a little too much telling rather than showing, and keeping him hidden allows for more mystery.
That is absolutely the case. They also were already juggling a ton of subplots and characters, so bringing Joker in the middle of the film would have been a bit too much I think.
Cameo at the end was more than enough Joker for this one.
Trueee! But this scene is so cool and so well written, I still think it's sad it was cut off. Now we know the riddlers Identity and his ambitions so of course we know everything Jokers saying is true, but maybe it wouldn't have been so obvious first time watching I dunnooo

While this scene is amazing I think it's obvious why it was cut. For starters it's the Joker. The moment you introduce him everyone else gets sidelined no matter how little screen time he has. But also because in this scene the Joker completely deconstructions the Riddler's character in five minutes which takes all the mystique and interest in the Riddler away.
When i first saw the movie i was quite pleased, since it's well crafted and stuff... But overnight my estimation towards it plummeted when i realized it was Seven ala Batman, same as The Joker being a Taxi Driver rip off. Not bad, since i'm grateful towards Joaquín Phoenix and this riddler, but they fell short once noticing the tremendous performances and story development made by Kevin Spacey (John doe on Seven) and De Niro (Travis Bickle on Taxi Driver). It's kinda sad this movies can't give a more singular rendition, even considering the comics story development standards, but now portraying this Joker kinda Lecter, you kidding me... Your comment s spot on bro. The movie s not trash but it isnt that competitive for the trained eye. We ll see if it shut our mouths in the future with sequels and stuff. Bottom line, new queen with an old dress doesnt seem a viable gimmick nowadays. Granted the creators are backed by the fans of the comics and previous movies. Good, enjoyable but not groundbreaking the morning after. Hope they find their edge and create a game changer next time.

That was the original plan for Ben Afflecks Batman trilogy. The raid inspired Batman moving up in Arkham and the joker is the 2 and 3rd story beats of the 1st 2 films setting him up as the main villain in the 3rd/final film.

All of the villains in this version are supposed to be more realistic. Penguin is just a thug, catwoman just a thief, riddler just a loner, and Joker a psychopath. I think the realism approach is a much-needed breath if fresh air. He fell into acid, his face is going to look disfigured. I'm happy to see where they go with this.

I finally watched that movie recently, and it's now among my top 5 best movies list. My number one that I think is a perfectly made movie, and the best movie ever made is There Will Be Blood, if that gives you any inclination of my taste in movies. Absolute masterpiece, people really don't give Farrel enough credit as an actor either, but he can be truly incredible
This personality, this voice, this mindset; it's awesome. This Joker gave me the feeling I had when I saw Ledger's Joker: curiosity, his mind is challenging me. I wish so much to see more of him, Keoghan nailed it
personally I have trouble with... I don't like his look, he's filthy for being filthy, vocally he's too much in search of imitation of Ledger except that... well it doesn't work.
Going back to the look, I don't see the Joker, I see an awful guy with an equally awful disease...
Personality wise, he doesn't really have an amazing personality, he's... an ordinary comic book Joker in real life.
On the other hand, to flatter him a little: he is better than that of Jared Leto and.... Than that of Joaquin Phoenix. Yes, I said it, because I think that Phoenix is not a good Joker, he is a good character... But not a good Joker

I can honestly appreciate how the joker is the back drop in this movie instead of the main antagonist. It’s a different perspective, considering the fact every Batman movie takes advantage of the joker story ark.

I think Barry Keoghan might have a shot at outdoing Heath Ledger. There's something about this performance that's so disturbingly subtle. I remember being horrified when I first watched this scene. It's like Batman/Bruce is being tempted by the Devil...
This is my favorite scene from the movie and it's not even in the movie. Can't imagine why they cut this.
I do like the fact this joker points out how Batman doesn’t necessarily feel bad when criminals die
Edit: even Gordon questions Batman at one point “you think they deserved it!?”
Woah never gotten this many likes before
Yes about how they "deserved it". That was always the most compelling thing about the Joker. The fact that he was usually right. So right that it made him mad.
He wasn’t talking about his dad deserving to die?
Its because he doesn't
He will care if he sympathizes with the criminal though
The thing the Joker wanted to point was Batman's perspetive towards Riddler.
Think about it, you probably asked youself at some point "The Riddler is just killing criminals, why is it so bad?", before you knew his full plan and then you noticed "Oh this is why he is bad".
Batman probably asked himself the same thing.
And this is what makes this Joker amazing, he read Batman like a book, because he knows him, and this is good because the best Jokers in history knew something about Batman.
The Joker as a character always stands out. And in these conversations between him and Batman he always steals the show; in this one, however, while I do think the Joker once again stands out... I think what adds even more to the scene is Pattinson´s portrayal of Batman. Like, in other interpretations I don´t really care about Batman as much as I care about the joker, but here, I don´t know, despite him just being there, stoic, there is a sense of... fear, not sure if fear of the guy he has infront of him or as the Joker tells, afraid of his own self. I don´t know, but I did find the scene very compelling. Can´t wait for the sequel.
I agree
Right, like you get this sense that the glass is his only safe haven from the Joker, but at the same time he's still uneasy. He speaks in whispers, he keeps his eyes on him until he's just about to walk out, and that line "Don't you?". It just felt...off. I'm so hopeful for this interpretation. I don't want a Joker that's right or has a point. I don't want one with a tragic backstory (I would feel better if he didn't have one). I want one that's calculating, creepy as hell, and terrifying and if he can get at the core of Batman then this is something special.
Always liked the joker and I'm a huge superman 🦸♂️ fan
While there was some good in previous Batman movies, the problem was always that Batman was a boring excuse of a character and was never as interesting as the villains. This is the first Batman that's actually cooler than the villains
@@LarryHazard totally agree, there is no point in a villain crawling In batman skin If batman does not gets his skin crawled in a visible way.

Barry Keoghan would be an awesome version of Joker. Played "him" so well. so menacing and unpredictable.
I loved the Bale movies but there’s just something about how calm Pattinson’s Batman is throughout most of this that gives me more of an impression of a Batman that the Joker would actually respect and enjoy talking to
Bale wasn’t really good as Batman or Bruce. He’s a great actor but never fit the part .
I’d say Val Kilmer is one of the best. He also played a straight faced thinker and had a good batman voice .
Despite the campy movie he had a lot of good moments in there.
Val Kilmer played batman and Bruce Wayne perfectly . Although this version of Batman is better than the others too, not a big fan of his Bruce Wayne tho. Much too gothic, can’t really see his version polish up in the future either
It's called comic accuracy. Bale was rubbish.
Pattinson nailed it
Yeah the dark knight joker always played with Batman’s emotions and pushed him to the edge
There will never be another joker like Heath but this guy definitely has my respect for taking some notes from him. Hopefully he will bring the character’s reputation back after the Leto incident
Joaquin was as good as Heath.
The Leto incident lmao, yeah he was the equivalent of the 9/11 incident.

4:10 - That delivery. The breathy drawn-out dialogue. The lip-smacking. Barry is definitely taking some cues from HL.

@@Rudi_Gauss Yeah that too but it's not like he's a new character. Literally every single character that has been acted out, performed, voice acted, drawn, if someone is doing a rendition from it, they are drawing inspiration from those past versions.
