Thank you for the good information! I was A little worried about the work that Needs to be done! I live 2 hours away from the auto parts store! I have only one car right now! It’s a 95 yj runs well for now! Thanks for your help!!!!!
I have the exact same Jeep my question is should there be gear oil where the shifter inserts in the top of the transmission? After replacing my clutch and flywheel, I’m having trouble shifting into gears mainly after the transmission has warmed up on longer drives any ideas?
@@JeepSolid thanks for the info and the response. Also wanted to say I really love your channel. Especially the series about the engine rebuild. I've learned a ton from your videos.
Jeepsolid how can we reach you personally , on My YJ I replace the front and rear differential vent cap BC the hose was damage . But before I change the hose on the rear I leakage coming out the plug or the hose after Idrove for more than 30m . I also replace the differential oil , what could be this issue . As this point is not leaking that much but it has me worry. Hope to heard from you soon
Quick question that I thought you might be able to answer. I drained my transmission fluid and refilled it yesterday. Measuring it, I drained probably close to 3.5 quarts, which seems about right, but when I was filling it I couldn't get any more than 3 quarts into the transmission. I tried a few different ideas to see if I could get more fluid in, but after the 3 quarts it just kept coming out almost as fast as I was pumping it in. What are your thoughts?
I drove it around for about 30 minutes making sure I was cycling through all the gears. When I got back I took off the fill port and fluid started coming out. Thinking it was just some residual fluid I tried pumping in a little more and the flow coming out increased rapidly. I have even tried elevating the side that the fill port is on to see if that would help, and it didn't. I just can't seem to get more than the 3 quarts in. Unless there's another way to fill the transmission. Anyway, thank you for the video and the advice. It was all incredibly helpful. If you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.
Hey,we have a 1997 tj 2.5l. 5 speed .Where can i see what transmission it is? What fluid can i use. Your videos are great! We learn a lot about jeeps. Many greetings from Germany✌
There are some markings on the side of the transmission, but they are hard to see. The easiest way may be for you to do a VIN search. There are websites out there that will use the VIN to tell you all the details about your vehicle. Thanks for watching. It's always fun to have viewers from overseas!
Good Stuff, I actually was trying to find a video about changing the transmission fluid but mine is an automatic, would the process be somewhat the same to a manual transmission.
I’m gonna be dropping the tranny to replace my clutch in my 90 4.2 yj. Do you recommend I drain the trans fluid before and then fill it back up after I put everything back together? Or just do the whole fluid change after I replace everything and put it all back together?
Does driving it around first stir up metal pieces for a better drain? I'm hesitant to drive it anymore as its already a bit difficult to shift, just want the old out, new in!
Hola, i had got an idea today, would it ne alright to drain all the stuff out the ax15 and open the fill and drain holes and spray some brake cleaner in both to clean it up a bit. What do you think, could damage anything in the ax15?
JeepSolid hey im back i have drained my ax15, and out came a vanilla milkshake. So i willingly sprayed tons of brake cleaner inside and put new oil and its shifting is much better.
Off topic question. I am going to change out my shifter lever, mine is a little busted up. When i put that back in do i need to grease the bushel or is there anything else i need to know about? Thanks
I know you fill until it just starts leaking out of the fill plug hole, but do you know approximately how much went in? I see 4 quarts; I'm assuming you did 3 and then a portion of the 4th, but how much?
So just wondering is someone knows I got a transfer case leak on the back drive shaft wondering if the users manual transmission as well if there’s separate housing is with separate fluids or not
I just changed my 1989 YJ transmission fluid and it only took 3 quarts, even though this video says 3 and half. Also, I can't find the Transmission Fluid Dip stick. Any one know?
@@JeepSolid changed all my fluids yesterday. Amsoil all the way. It shifts better now than what it did new. 144k. Thanks for your inspirational clips. I’ll use the redline next time. That lil pump was great. The car mech wanted 222 bucks to do this. I owe you a beer!

No problem. Funny thing, I actually have another transmission fluid change video being released today at 1:00. You'll have to check it out.
Awesome. Thank you so much for your helpful vids
2.5L has a AX 5. 4.0L has an AX15 visually very similar. Thanks for this video.
No problem. Thx
Do they hold the same amount of fluid??
Solid YJ Jeep vid...no pun intended. Doing my trans and rear diff this weekend. Thanks for the vids
Cool, Thx!

Dale- I saw your video where you changed the gasket on an auto trans oil pan. Can find it again. Can you tell me the video title?
Redline kicks ass. It saved my transmission.
Yeah, It's great stuff!
Redline is best stuff. No metal will be on drain plug! I been using it for years
I make a homemade blend get a blender and mix honey and Clorox bleach and dish soap and cocacola and canned peach juice and half cup of water
Excellent video !
very helpful and to the point , thanks!
I have a 1995 jeep yj, all stock. It is a 5 speed 2.5 4 cylinder. Is this the same transmission my Jeep has?
+Chris Crowder You most likely have the AX5. Not the AX-15
Great video. I heard you talking about replacing the drain plug. Is this correct, or can I use the one that came out of the transmission?
I use the same one

Probably a dumb question but is there a filter on the transmission? If so, do i need to change, when should i change it, how do i change it?
No filter on the manual transmission AX15. Automatic transmission has a filter. Not a dumb question at all.
JeepSolid thanks. Woohoo just like my 2nd grade teacher used to say!

After filling it with 3, drive it a little and then top it off. It should take a little more then.

Came back to this video years later for this exact question-I will drain for the heck of it but I don't feel it is needed
Does driving it around first stir up metal pieces for a better drain? I'm hesitant to drive it anymore as its already a bit difficult to shift, just want the old out, new in!
Yeah, driving it a bit heats up the fluid a bit and breaks up the gunk. Helps it drain better.
Cool, thanks for the advice, glad I did it. Shifts are night and day, fluid came out looking like mcdonalds mcflurry
Super helpful thanks!

How to remove when is stuck

Thank You!
You're welcome
I have a yj 1993 4.0 6cyl
Is it the same ?
If its manual transmission, yep, same thing.
Use 10 W 30 When it is cold and MT 90 In the summertime that’s why people always have these idiosyncrasies with shifting
perfect!!
Is it the same on automatic transmissions???
No, automatic is different and needs a filter change as well.
JeepSolid do I need any special tools or is it just drain, and change the filter?
Would you use the same fluid for a BA-10 transmission?
I realize I'm quite off topic but do anyone know a good site to stream new movies online?
@Tyson Neil Ehh I'd suggest Flixportal. you can find it through google:P -soren
@Soren Kaden Thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !!
@Tyson Neil happy to help :D
Same for the TJ 6 cylinder?
Is it the same for a 97 Jeep Wrangler TJ? Thx

What fluid pump do you have?
Kyle Russell In this video, I was using a cheap Harbor Freight fluid pump.

25 lb ft?
If you have the ax5 transmission, it's 32.5 ft lbs
