"Things couldn't be any worse", "I wouldn't bank on that" - prophetic.
Poor old Lizzie. That Gordon IS a rotten mongrel. When Po-face Powell pouts, she reminds me of an Afghan hound.xx
Virginia Guiney Yeah he is the definition of sick evil man more of a sociopath really though
Hey you can’t say Afghan hound that’s considered racist in this politically correct world remember being white is privilege for us 🤣🤣
There's definitely something missing since Vera left. She always made life more interesting and it's just not the same without her. COME BACK VERA!!! 😢
I'm pissing myself laughing. Vera is gone 5 minutes and the prisoners take over reception, the place is a mad house.
Prisoner won't be the same without Vinegar.... the inmates think they're lucky to get rid of her... but they've got 'The Freak' to look forward too! ...she's another level
Why is Bea gonna have "Lenny Kravitz" take care of Sid's son Gordon? LMAO
Because he'll turn up at the bank and threaten him, asking "Are you going to go my way?"
Lenny Travers
Officer Powell has got off to a good start - abandoning her post in reception and then getting cornered for it by Mrs. Davidson LOL. And how embarrassing was falling for Judy's hopeless impersonation of Joan Barfield... 🤣
I think the point is that Colleen made it quite obvious at times that she disapproved of Vera's methods and has now become her.
Does Barfield even talk?
@@andrewmorrice9139 I know, probably the most prominent mute character in the series, haha
Jim and Coleen's exchange @ 21:45 - I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want 🤣
Doreen actually apologised??? I am amazed!
I already miss Vera she was a very integral part of the show. it just isn't the same it's like something's missing
Yes I miss her too. But they will get another screw who will be powerful as well. For sure.
Too powerful as it turns out!
My favorite scene. Bea bashing the bastard
I know it's decades after late 1981 & I would soon be too busy working to watch Prisoner, but Prisoners new nasty screws got better & better, er, I mean worse and worse.
Vera was a straight shooter & the only real baddie was a big bloke who became a hit in comedy commercials.(Goggomobil, Don Is Good).
In 1982 Powell grew some real teeth & a female version of Mr Stewart arrived.
But I was too busy paying tax, farrrrk!
And now she's entering Barnhurst and kicking Miss Roberts out of her new chair. "I'm Governor Bennett....NOW MOVE!"
*Officer Powell:* What makes you think now Ms. Bennett's gone things are going to be any easier?"
*Doreen:* "Things couldn't get any worse, Mrs. Powell."
Bet she changes her tune real quick once the freak arrives on the scene.
That scene where Doreen and Jude sneak to Davo's office was hilarious. Doreen trying to hide the rolled up papers and Judy giving her a hard time for sticking them in her pocket because they, "stick out like a flag pole." LMAO. Kind of hard to hide that kind of thing without giving yourself away that you've been up to mischief. *XD*
Watching the entire scene gave me a thrill because it reminds me of my best friend and I in high school when we would pull pranks.
Vera's brain has been transplanted into Colleen's skull it would seem.
How does such a nice sort as Sid produce such a cold-blooded monster like Gordon?
That's one of the few thing I disliked about Prisoner's writers. They always made sure the husbands of the inmates were just awful. I mean really awful and the children were mostly the same. In real life, there are a lot of shade between decent and awful. But I suppose it was to quickly establish sympathy for the women.
The one exception was Hazel's husband who took her children even though he wasn't their actual father.
Poor Lizzie. I wish she and Sid got married and lived happily.
Juliet Robin I am so sad Lizzie got paroled AFTER Sids's death. I wanted them to live happily ever after.
Even though I watched back in the day I don't recall most details, so I held hope.
Marie I am sad also. I had hoped they would have been living together in the house. We enjoy watching movies and want things to be the same way. But the only thing in life that is constant is change. Lizzie is dead in real life and Sid as well. I read Hazel Kent in real life is dead due to an overdose for some illness she had I think it was some brain thing and she was in a lot of pain. So she was talking pain pills and took too much. Some of the actors are still around and are on facebook. I messaged quite a few of them including Doreen but they have never responded this far. Doreen looks old now. I think she is in her early 70's. i wish I couldmeet even one of the actors. It will certainly make my day.
Collette Mann was born in 1950 so she's 68 at the moment.
Poor Lizzie? Being left a house and a load of money she isn't entitled to
@@tuxedocat3020 why is she nut entitled to it she and Sid were very close he was perfectly entitled to leave his house to whoever he wanted to
Dumb question... why is the lighting different? It seems brighter now... Vera leaves and they installed better lighting? lol
They decided to make the show lighter. Exactly two and half years since the show started so maybe that was something to do with it.
The budget must have been bigger, its like a new show!
In a word, yes. Back then, you can tell by the quality of the lighting, set, even SOUND/background music steadily improved as the show wore on from episode one to this one. The 80s was a fantastic time for all things growing and new; tech was fascinating. Lots of musical artists doing soundtracks and scores...everyone wanted more: Bigger, better, brighter. Remember, the 80s was a time when opulence (and flaunting it)--even greed--was good.
Can you tell I'm an old fart who misses the 80s? haha
@@ovormotssetgetsiin6359 I miss the 80s too.
@@tefllife2024 Especially the music.
The only episode to make me cry... Damn it
I'll share My tissues with you.😭
Bea Smith would have choked Gordon Humphrey unconscious but the screws saved him!
He should have gotten a Vince Talbot like beat down.
Mrs. Powell should dye her hair red and pin it back in a severe bun. Go in there and start barking orders just to wig them out! I would like to see the look on their faces!
Vera Powell or Colleen Bennett lol
Go Bea, Glad she thumped that rotten Gorden, bullying poor lizzie like that.
Lizzies guest house for homeless crims lol they'd soon move out when they realise Colleen Powell is the neighbour.
Chanine Clark i could never understand why it was never scripted that Colleen Powell got harrassed on the outside by ex prisoners and/or their families.
Funny how no one mentioned anything about Vera going missing from her going away drinks party.
Not really it's Vera, she's a hermit outside of the prison
What ever happened to the Halfway House. No one ever mentions it. 22:30 Why isn't Davo's office locked when she isn't in it? However the library is locked while the staff room with personal belongings and a phone is not.
Syed Faruque yeah and I noticed recently that when Kathy hall nicked that officers handbag she took it from locker 3 which was Vera's locker!
Exactly. And whatever happened to Ms. Vernon? Nothing was ever mentioned of her leaving. It's like she just never came back and no one spoke like she ever existed.
@@doitlikethebereans1690 She probably vanished in that car of hers which we never heard of after Leanne Burke stole it
I guess I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream new series online ?
@London Zeke Ehh I use Flixportal. just google after it:D -shepard
Lol just as super mute miss barfield was about to say her first word to mrs Davidson; big mouth Doreen had to steal her thunder lol
Fletcher has PMS!
As if Judy would have been able to type all of that in the short time she had at the typewriter typing with two fingers... LOL
"He'd suck a blood bank dry!" 😂😂
instead of vera becoming governor of barnhurst they should have had her get in trouble and become a wentworth inmate and then get transferred to barnhurst hahahaha lol :)
That would have been great. Probably an unrealistic scenario but sometimes you need that in drama at times to keep it entertaining.
yea i know right! it's fun to think about like some folks say stuff about bea being a screw etc.. well meg got the chance never saw that coming! and i like seeing davo out of her office too :) it's a real fun show even though it has the hidden agenda all over it :p
22:13-22:15 For a second, I thought that was the beginning notes of the Mission Impossible song as Doreen and Judy creep around the corner to spy. *:'D*
In real life, there would be no way the governor would leave her office door unlocked with prisoners strolling around the joint.
And the way Judy just easily gets access to a phone just seems totally unbelievable.
"Acting Cheif prison officer " now that's an actual title you'll never hear again
"well,well...what have we here? The rest centre for geriatric prisoners!"
And tonight the part of Vera Bennet will be played by Colleen Powell...my God that didn't take long. For someone who said they weren't best friends Colleen has certainly started to take after Vera. Poor Lizzie. Gordon is the biggest swine that's ever been on this show and that's saying something. Nothing but a bully, he is. On a positive note, it's nice to see Alison fitting in with the others.
Who were best friends...
Gordon needs a ton of tabasco sauce and a bottle of Castor oil added to his potatoes and gravy. One minute after swallowing it, he'll be in the toilet pooing his intestines out. Or maybe some Ipacek then he'd throw up all day.
@@tammylynn4478 Not Vera and Colleen
Colleen thout 2 get highr like Vera 2 b like her but eventually mellowed dwn wen The Freak arrived
The rec room = the staff room = the dining hall. All the same set.
The governors office always left unlocked
Powell's face in Davo's office :D
i just love that music
Colleen banging on about the union yet again almost as repetitive as Pat and her children.
Bernadette Lamb banging on in irrational hatred. Almost as repetitive as a garden gate clattering in a strong wind. Shaddap.
What a nasty piece of work that Gordon is, imagine shouting at Lizzie like that !
I love Colleen's smile. It's so sassy.
Aw Lizzie... grief is such a hard thing 😢😢
How Lizzie feels in the end is how I feel about losing Vera! 'Shes gone! And I'm never going to see her again!' I'm genuinely sad!
me too. I was hoping to see her name one last time in the end credits. :(
Vera was one of the few characters that was any good.
Still it was best to lose her before she became stale and overused...shame the same can't be said about a lot of the others...Doreen.
+Steve Perrin And Meg 😞
@@Oscaeone again adding my voice to the chorus Vera/Fiona she was one of the originals in this series she helped make it what it is having seen later episodes without her it just isn't the same
lol Vera isn't dead
In Fletch's outburst to Powell about being tired of everything and everyone Wentworth, he forgot to mention the receptionists, one of whom is standing there as surprised as Powell. Perhaps they don't count--they should, though, because they are always the best-looking women on the show.
"Things couldn't get any worse." Oh yeah? Just keep on gloating ladies, because Joan Ferguson will be coming in the near future and you'll think Vera was Mary Poppins.
Lizzie: "Dor, I just realized Sid's dead. My lovely old Sid's dead. And I'm never gonna see him anymore."
Heartbreaking. Funny that it's been 12 years since I lost my mother, and I still have moments like that myself.
At about 13:30 Colleen mentions that "mum looks after the kids" not sure if she's referring to her mother or Patrick's mother, but we never see her and perhaps should've been added to the script, would've been interesting.
And so that's it. She's gone. Oh man!!!
bye bye vinger ha ha bet Jim is on a binge this is like forty year old still lovin it
Glad that Lizzy gets some good news for a change
Sid dies.....and NOW Lizzie gets released??
I miss Vera sooooo soooo soooo much!
Yeah, Powell is not really cutting it, is she? However, enough previous posters have dropped enough (unwanted) spoilers to let us know that Vera 'Mark IV' is coming soon.
+Samisowhat Sothere no...she really isn't cutting it. And I was just starting to like Colleen too...I wish they hadn't tried to make ber character be like Vera...she was a unique contrast to the others and I liked her...she was like a combo of Vera and Meg...firm but fair.
@@amykjorlien326 goes to show she was quite a powerful character, we realise how powerful she was now that she's gone.
10:50 Mrs Davidson's going to bully the department into submission, wow how kinky, She'll have the whip and Mr Douglas on all fours.
Oh dear. Lol. @Oliver M
@@nickprince9881 and then Mr Fletcher answering, "Do you think it will work?" Lol. Wondering if the dialogue was that innocent or the writers putting it in for a laugh?
Very funny as Douglas also went weak at the knees around Helen Smart.
haha imagine Davo whipping Douglas lol abit like Queenie Marshall and Andrew Fry
@@musicfan8048 lol.
Can't have an episode without a comment from me,surely?
your about as funny as a bad case of the shingles hahahahaha
Davos "very well" every episode...drinking game anyone? Lol
There are no words for Vera's departure...however, this Lizzie on parole (when she doesn't want it) and her getting loose and being allowed out (when she DOES want it then pouts when she has to go back) over and over ad nauseam is getting about as fun as Vivienne and Alison combined. Enough already, it's more than a broken record at this point. I really do hope her storylines get better than rehashing that a hundred thousand MORE times.
What a stupid idea it is for them to think that if they work harder Vera won't be replaced. The prison is already short staffed, staff are already doing compulsory double shifts and now they are an extra two officers down.
I know! Prisons will always recruit new officers. Can't believe they'd think that.
If it is to be a Picnic, then have it at Hanging Rock!
Is there a place called Hanging Rock? I like the movie they made starring Kirsty Child and the actress who played Jenny Hartley in the 500s. Kirsty was a teacher and Jenny was a student.
@@sheriheffner2098 not sure if you've seen it but there's another movie from 1977, "the getting of wisdom" which includes a lot of prisoner cast and the freak had a small role in it.
25:47 ah so THAT's how Officer Barfield is meant to sound, gosh that Jude is crap at accents. I remember her 'Irish' accent when she was dressed as a police officer.
That Jud is crap at accents so said a supermodel troll
When Mrs Barfield has a few lines she sounds nothing like Judy's imitation.
2 slices of bacon, an egg and all the trimmings- that's a pretty good breakfast by UK canteen standards, and they're always moaning about the food. Let's face it, many of them don't look 'underfed'.
There’s no wonder many actresses clearly gained weight during their time on the series, especially Betty Bobbitt and Colette Mann
Not the same without Vera
The vinegar is gone but there is still tartar sauce and that is nice with fish and chips🍟
How does Judy know what officer barfield sounds like? I've never heard her speak :)
LOVE Judy's masterful imitation of Barfield, my god Judy's a genius, she's practically Barbara Bain in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!
Erica... listen babe, we know you're the worst Governor ever in the history of everything but... puttin Be Smith on an away party? Call me old fashioned, but didn't you nearly have to resign over the last TWO times she escaped? #justsaying
If Judy really wanted to do a good imitation of Mrs. Barfield, there should've been stone silence on the line when Colleen was at the other end. :-)
awwww I like Erica!
Jason Yates 😬Yike's😬- Sounded rather lame. 🤗In all honesty.😐. Don't give up the day job Judy😐.. 🤓just saying. Lol 😂 😂😂😂
46:00.....it's horrible. Weeks later it suddenly hits you that the person is dead. You keep busy doing what needs to be done, dealing with the paperwork, then wham. When you least expect it, it hits you like a sledgehammer. Is that a common reaction? I don't know.
Yes it is
I wonder what would have happened if they left Vera in when the Freak came along
jake minogue There probably would have been fireworks eventually had Vera learned about Joan's corruptness.
Also, the nearest we got of Vera and Joan meeting and working together, was in the Prisoner reboot, Wentworth. 😃
my lovely old, Sid.
"I just realised.. Sid's dead." ffs Lizzie.. Don't anyone dare tell her about Steve Irwin. It'll finish off the old bag. lol
Mrs. Powell has become a shape-shifter. she's suddenly turned into Vera. .LOL the character Gordon is the lowest of the low but that being said surprised that Bea wasn't thrown into solitary. attacking a civilian I would think that that would have been a severe offense yet it just goes by with no one reacting
They seem to have updated the library music.
39:37 That's how I'd like to greet my boss every morning 😏
They must have had a big more money by this stage in the show, they got new lightbulbs! it doesn't look so dark
And new wave disco music in the laundry.
Colleen, sorry Mrs Powell, letting that minor promotion go to her head is what is needed. I recall that she becomes almost Gestapo-esque in her character at times from now.
Oddly enough.. Judy Bryant reminds me of Oliver Hardy.
Bea almost managed to kick that rat Gordon Humphreys in the cobblers. Pity she didn't.
Poor grumpy Jim, he probably hasn't properly processed Terry's death yet. After all, he turned out to be a complete different person than he thought he was. He's also probably missing Vera, like we all are. I miss that Wentworth Goddess.
Not to mention he's probably got his nose bent out of shape over Vera's promotion when he was passed-over, himself.
Except that he did not apply for the position.
But he once applied for the position and was turned down.
As the old saying goes :you don't know what you've lost until it's gone. With Vera gone ,it's like a big hole has been blown into pcbh.
Oh, I don't know, Fletch got over his wife and children being blown up pretty quick.
I'm so tired of Doreen. I wonder how much longer we have to put up with her.
Until she leaves then everyone can write comments about missing her. Give it a rest bore.
Very well lit these episodes, compared to the previous dungeon lighting.
I am fortunate enough to own a 200 yr.old 6,000 sq.ft historical landmark house on 50 acres w/ working vineyards in the Finger Lakes Wine region of upstate NY. Not rich, family home. I am leaving the entire property to a charitable foundation. My son supports my decision. We all could make really good money by selling. We all could use the extra $. $ isn't everything. Defying a loved one's final wishes, is an act of hate against that person. Hopefully others will find shelter there as we have.
Whether you do or whether you don't is irrelevant. The point you have made about a loved ones wishes is invaluable in every aspect.
Without having a fly peek ahead, I wonder if its long now before Meg returns possibly resulting in marital meltdown...
I have watched this show since I was 10 yrs old. I only watched this show because of my beloved grandmother and when she died this is the only thing to this day that makes me feel so close to her. Granny hated people who spoilt who was leaving or coming so come on folks, please don't spoil it for the new generation😊 Enjoy prisoner cell block h as we knew it folks. 😊p's :no I'm sorry but I can't watch Wentworth. These are the true Wentworth prisoners xxx
Same reason I watch it. Memories. I was 10 also when it started in uk . Or round about . On very late at eeekends. But watching again brings memories flooding back
That officer in Lizzies visit with Gordon is an absolute drongo. She should of ended it as soon as he started having a go at her!
It was never the same once Vera left
Plus I have tread on here and from other sources that Sheila lost a baby to a bomb in WWII and another daughter in the fifties, the daughter was murdered and they didn't find out until the eighties. So sad. Poor Sheila. I couldn't imagine losing two children.
I have a book on Sheila and it was written by her daughter in law. Through the years until Sheila died, she said she lost a baby named Bridget. Her son Peter said her never remember Bridget being born, maybe Sheila lost an unborn baby and named the infant Bridget. THis was in WWII and her husband was away in the war. Reports said she never had a baby during that time sand she was nowhere around a street that was bombed in the area. Nevertheless, Sheila kept the story in her until the day she died. Her daughter in law looked up reports of a baby named Bridget that was killed in a bombing but her name never surfaced. Poor Sheila. The book said that Sheila could have had an abortion because she got pregnant by another man. Women in England had affairs with men while their husbands were away at wartime. Maybe it traumatized Sheila so badly that she imagined having a baby named Bridget?
Sheri451 what is the name of the book? I'm on my fourth round of watching it is a comfort show for me now never gets old
Very sad. I remember reading something about Sheila's daughter. Wasn't she pushed off the roof of a building? For a time they thought she has jumped until it came to light that a man murdered her.
Gordon is such a bloody creep
Shame Meg and Joan didn't just let Bea take care of Gordon, it would have made for almost as good viewing as when she and the others got Vince that time. Colleen cannot appear to handle responsibility very well it seems. She is already creating problems for herself by disregarding Erica's instructions on how to handle the women. The penny had to drop for poor Lizzie eventually.
At 0:41 an elephant brays!
Lamp Shade Haha. Yes, it did indeed sound like an elephant braying. 😄
4:28 Give it all you got (you got, you got)
What the bloody hell was Barfield doing when Gordon was verbally abusing Lizzie? Standing there like a waxwork.
Big hole in the show without vera
Wonder if the ratings went down after she left
I don't think so, I think the last couple of years it was struggling, hence the end
Officer Barry seemed to be more competent in this era unlike the fool she eventually became.
Worst Officer Barfield impression ever.
I'm going off it now Vera's gone :( but I really want to see The Freak! lol
Same here! I'm waiting for The Freak before I stop watching.
@@zoogleutilizer1288 that's when it started to get boring when they brought the freak on
"Smith you're about as funny as a bad case of shingles", says Fletch. Ha, ha! Bea should sit on Lizzie's lap. Oh, my! Lizzie's going to get a half-way house for the ladies. Bea's going to be the new governor of Wentworth! LOL! Judy needs to learn how to type. It sure took Lizzie a long time to figure out the permanent state Syd is in.
The full impact of his death finally sank in. She handled his death so calmly before because she was in shock and wasn't able to process what had happened. She and Sid had a really good thing going, they really loved each other, Lizzie was so ecstatic about being released to live with her future husband, and she suddenly lost it. Combine that with the very hard life she's lived, undergoing several hard blows, and it's no wonder she's just now really grieving and realizing her loss of Sid.
Lizzie: "I just realised, Sid's dead."
Did someone deliver the script late to Lizzie that day?

does anyone notice at 1:23 how much better the quality is when the bars shut on the left hand side? sorry i pick up on the most randomess things
Judy says '' You've never heard my Officer Barfield impression''. How the hell can she impersonate Barfield. She's never spoken !!
At 19:48 Officer ' Mute' Barfield is watching some of the prisoners playing cards. She looks totally baffled as if she's never seen this before. ( Actually, she usually looks baffled/ confused in every scene she's in). Erica then waltz's in and asks Barfield a question. She's about to speak BUT Doreen answers ! Barfield then, again, looks confused. Poor cow.
+Chris.C I so agree. Barfield looks perpetually confused and bewildered! My personal nickname for her is "Mutefield".
SoapsNthings She does eventually have a couple of lines in a later episode !!
Just saw a new screw who appeared for the first time in episode 235 AND had some dialogue.....yet Mutefield's been on the show forever and still (up to where I've watched) hasn't uttered a sound.
Oh well, it'll be cause for celebration when I do hear her utter a few words. :-)
SoapsNthings Takes a long time until Barfield utters a word !!
I wish Judy would do a Barfield impression more often. Than we wouldn't have to listen to her.😅
23:09 LOL, honestly Doreen. :D
I wonder how much of the dialog is off the cuff and not written in the script. adlibbing if you will.
Judy definitely wouldn't have pressured Alison into helping them if she looked like a teenage girl
its weird w/out Vera
