But one of the ants decided it was a leaf cutting and picked it up to take back to the nest. So among all the green you could see a little bit of red slowly moving up the trail.
Could do it with some good quality video and some good object-tracking software - talk to the computer science/AI researchers and see if they know any off the shelf or have a good degree/masters/PhD who'd like a challenge.

I remember going to an insect exhibit and they had a tank of live leaf cutter ants. As I looked closely at the tank, I noticed the ants were piled up on the corner and crawling their way up. The ants were trying to escape.
They could have just tunnels out of rhe glass by using lasers made out of leaves and refracted light, but that would also require huge amounts of poop for a power sauce.

They really are amazing insects, they’re like the insect equivalent of humans, they can wage wars, cultivate crops, and raise cattle.
If humanity died out, I expect ants would take over the world.
