It's funny how it slips by people that "Vector" is a reference to Vector Marketing, which is a pyramid scheme, and in the movie Vector stole a pyramid in a literal "Pyramid Scheme." Priceless.

Fun fact: It may sound like the Minions are speaking gibberish but they actually aren't. They speak Minionese which is a mix of English, French, Italian and Spanish with hints of Korean, Russian, Chinese and Japanese tossed in. Most of the Minions are voiced by the directors of the movie, Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin. Chris is American and Pierre is French which is why the minions have different accents.

I love how the doll head in Gru's bed (27:02) was like the horse head in The Godfather. 🤣
I have 3 nieces and every time they would come to spend nights at my house, they HAD to watch this movie no matter how many times they had seen it. There were 3 girls in the movie and 3 of them so they named themselves after the little girls. Kids love this movie.
When the dvd came out, i couldn´t pass it when i was on the way to my niece and nephew ( 9 and 8 yo at the time ).
They instantly loved it and i gave them the dvd.
Two weeks later i received a call from their Mom to come and take the movie back,
because they saw it every day and she couldn´t stand the Minions giggle anymore.
Naturally i didn´t and my two little Minions greeted me on every visit with a booming loud BANANA!!!

Fun fact Despicable Me did better in the box office than Megamind. But my mom thinks Megamind is the funniest movie ever made, and I think so too. Probably because Will Ferrell is the funniest person alive.

These actors are so funny! Russell Brand as the old professor; Jason Segal as Vector and of course Steve Carell as Gru. They must have had fun doing this movie!
They will regret calling the minions ugly lol. Just waiting for them to fall in love with the minions by the end of the movie
The World War II memes have to do with a bit of lore introduced in the prequel film Minions (2015), which notes that the species is dedicated to serving the most evil villain on Earth at any given moment. actually you can kinda tell what the Minions are saying its like a weird mixture of romance languages :D "speta" obviously means "look" derived from spectate :D gotta do the Minion movie now lets go!

Yeah. Although from the first movie it's mostly incoherent babble, as it went on the writers really zeroed in on the variety of actual real languages they blended for "Minionese".
What still confuses me is how can anyone apart from Gru still understand what they mean. Is everyone in that universe just multilingual by default?

At first I loved the Minions (mainly Kevin and Bob) but Illumination really wanted to cash in. My mum is still obsessed with them though and I don’t know why lol.
All of the despicable me movies are good. Very rare for an animated series.

I personally preferred Despicable Me 3. Bratt was the best villain in the trilogy to me, and that kept be on board.

@@Anino_Makata I'm an 80s kid so I loved the music in 3. My 7 year old nephew started constantly asking his mom to play "Bad" and "Into the Groove" after watching a few times, LOL.
I haven't watched Rise of Gru yet, but the other 4 movies are all fantastic!!
By the way, Steve Carell voices Gru and his mom is voiced by Julie Andrews...

"What is a Minion?"
That is explained in the first Minion movie.
I actually didn't like how the Minion movie retconned their origin (I just assumed they were a creation of Gru and/or Nefario), though I think the film is okay otherwise.
@@HobGungan Actually, I remember reading an official book about the first Despicable Me movie. It was a kid's book so definitely not a home run literature-wise, but what stuck out to me was in the book they actually referred to the Minions as Gru's creation.
So it was probably the original intention to make them one of Gru's experiments, but it was altered for the sake of making a movie about them. Conveniently, their origin was never explored in the trilogy and the initial concept was never one worth explaining in the first place, so it worked out for the producers.

Guys, if you want answers to your questions about what the Minions are, I suggest you check out the first Minions movie. It doesn't spoil anything from the Despicable Trilogy, although it would mean going out of order. And it might kill some of whatever charm the Minions have, but if you're looking for answers, there's the rabbit hole for you to go down.
the thing about the minions is that, when in the movies, they are hilarious. But its the marketing where they get annoying. That's how I feel

Despicable Me 1 is where the Minions work best, because they're kinda in the background and don't overwhelm the story. From this point onwards they skyrocket in popularity - and appearances. I do recommend the following two Despicable Me movies at least, I enjoyed them all.
I'm happy to say I've never had a bowl cut, even in the early 80s.
We did a kids, we were not safe from the bowl cut epidemic :(

The Minions definitely have the same energy as the Rabbids.
I once saw several people go into Walmart dressed as minions and purchase bananas. Following not far behind them was someone dressed as Gru and someone driving a motorized shopping cart dressed as dr Nefario.
Despicable Me 2 is great, 3 is okay, and the Minion movie has Sandra Bullock as a bonus.
The Simpsons are awesome and they’re yellow 😂 just like the minions are, and the most funniest part of the movie is when the minions go the mall 😂
We have those "leashes" in the uk but we call them reins. We walk a lot here you see and pavement are quite narrow compared to yours and there's not much thinking time if your kid goes rogue so if you've got a baby in a pram, 16 bags of shopping and a toddler they're very useful.

12:05 I speak from experience .. Elephants eat the WHOLE Banana. And if you’re not careful they snatch the entire frickin’ bunch out of your 11 year old hands .. and you’re left like “Oh …. I guess that’s that then?!?”. Visited a Zoo in Bangkok many years ago .. me and my sister got to take an elephant ride .. and got to feed them. They had tonnes of bananas you can feed to them and they will pick it out of your hand with their trunk and shove it in their mouths. The one I was feeding was NOT into taking them one at a time and just took the whole lot.

The rise of Gru was really good! Gives a lot of the back story
U can watch the origins of the minions in the 'Minions' movie... Basically, it is the minions' nature to serve a big, bad boss... they are capable of thriving as a tribe, but they can only be happy and productive when they serve a big, bad master... or they become depressed.
Gru pays them w/ his heists... not well, but until Vector, he was the biggest, baddest supervillain in the world and the minions served him at their pleasure... 😂😂
Ok, now, you guys have got to follow this up with Despicable Me 2. The highlight is Gru falls in love and the minions get injected with a serum that turns them purple and they become evil. Hysterically funny. The best!!

see i don't hate the Minions, in fact i have like many of the animated characters like the Minions that Disney and Dreamworks have created, but this is how best to use them, they are secondary to the main characters, they aid the main story, not the focus.... there are a few distinct and recognizable Minions who get their own sequence, but it's played for humour, and is short (they never wear out their welcome and are funny when they show up, cause they don't show up all the time), the rest are gags or props, they are jokes ( the shrunken or floating minion for example)
see this movie did what none of the others did, the main story doesn't involve the minions, they are just for comic relief or some emotional pot point (like when they line up to be kissed by Gru)
i really like Gru and his story to be himself and become a good parent is the point of the film and the main story, he and the girls are the focus, the minions are for humour and though there are several dozen of them, they never crowd the film or interfere with the main story.... characters like this are funny, when they are used sparingly and purposefully, not stuffed everywhere and shown because they are popular
