  • I am pulling out all the stops to show you my giant thrift haul of vintage fabric, clothes, and sewing patterns. I got very lucky with finding vintage at the goodwill outlets (a.k.a. the goodwill bins) as well as finding vintage at estate sales, and thrift stores. I share with you items I always pick up at estate sales and thrifts. As well as my tips and tricks for finding vintage clothes at the Goodwill outlets.
    Grab your coffee, get cozy and come with me as I share all my thrift finds in October of 2020.

    You've probably been told 50 million times, but the tape with pockets on the curtains is called pleating tape. Used with special hangers, you end up with fancy pleated drapes.

    Crafters who do junk journals love shorter off cuts of vintage lace and trims. They sew it to page edges and use on the covers. You probably already know that.

    Oh. That towel. If you still have it - get in touch with a you tuber named Jarrod Tocci -Ghost. Buddy is a van lifer. He'll put you in touch with some surfers. And how many times do vintage sewers and van folk get to do a collaboration? Do. The. Thing.

    The curtain heading with pockets is for inserting pin on drapery hooks for pinch pleat drapes.

    • @StephanieCanada
      @StephanieCanada  3 года назад

      Is it really!! I have seen the older style of pinch pleats but not this one. Thank you so much!

      @@StephanieCanada I have pulled many a pin out of vintage drapes that were better used as fabric ;-)

    Use Orvus WA paste for your natural fabrics and they won't bleed. I also treat all my Batik worn a mixture of vinegar and salt in water to set the dye and it has never faded out since I started doing this. The soap you can find at a farm store and you use 1 -2 T in a wash load

    The 50 cent crusty Tote: Deconstruct that badboy make a patern and pop the patern on the Web store Cutain pockets: the hooks would look like a 3 pronged fork doing Yoga, they would create deep swoop waves in the curtain why they were so wide - sweet find

    Your striped sheet from the bins is from the 60's /early 70s (we had them :) )and that wear is pretty common for cotton sheets that were used a lot. Nice find-the feel of that cotton is so nice!!

    I just love seeing what you bought! You found some gems! I cannot wait to see the Buzz Lightyear dresses. I love making dresses from older whacky sheets. I have a Blue's Clues dress that people love so much every time I wear it. It always shocks them! Estate sales here are so ... odd. Often so overpriced! But it is fun to see inside someone's life. My fav was that skirt that was batik! But the split drawers do make me rethink my life.

      Oh I would love to see the Blue Clue dress! (Also now I need to find that sheet to make one for my daughter who LOVES the new Blues Clues). Estate sales are also often times over priced here as well so I make sure that I don’t really go to them til half off or more, unless they are spectacular.

    Suggestion for baby christening gowns - get in touch with a local church (Anglican, Catholic and Lutheran are your best bets). Maybe if the local parish had a collection of them available to give to new parents then the tradition wouldn't be lost. Gown's still getting passed down in the family - just different families.
    Side benefit - the lace, saved it gets, yes. {wonder if there's a tax break in it for you}

    The curtains are known as pencil pleat header curtains in the UK.
    Unfortunately, whoever sewed them sewed the ends shut where you tuck the gathered strings into (after gathering for the required size). That's why they might have been discarded. But all that us needed it unpick the ends of the header tape.

      I try to remember that. I am thankful to be not around an extra susceptible person. I still take all the precautions I can. And the dress is so pretty and I hope it finds a new home soon.
