- I had no idea that Keanu Reeves was a bassist in a rock band called Dogstar. So, today I'm going to listen to his band @DogstarBand's single Breach that came out this year. Did you know he was a rockstar too?!
You can watch Dogstar's music video for Breach here: • Dogstar - Breach (Offi...

We already got vip for Philly 😂
The riff kind of reminds me of the Offsprings "Come Out & Play."
Can't wait to see you in Newcastle xox
Are you gonna do that extra Xmas Eve Special in Londinium!??? 😁
I saw you Guys on 31st January...... Xmas Eve is My Birthday......it's the least you can do!??? 😝🤩😋
I saw Dogstar in the 90s, they weren't bad. But what I like is that Keanu likes his fans and to be amongst non-Hollywood people. I don't think he's expecting wild musical success, I think he quite simply enjoys it.
Seeing Keanu have fun is it’s own reward
100% The man just loves trying new things (even if this isn't exactly new), and it's his genuine nature that keeps drawing people in.
It's the same with Depp.
Drop doesn’t strike me as authentic as he has to wear I’m his rocker costume. His Aerosmith rags all that like he just can’t be himself
@chrisclifton6800they arnt a great band but they are genuine friends for many years having fun
This band originally called (Wild Stallions) was started in San Dimas, California in the late 1980's. After a failed attempt to lure the late guitar virtuoso Eddie Van Halen to join their band, the band has gone through several line up changes before settling upon the current lineup. They are a bonafide 40 year overnight success. Their music will one day unify the entire world.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 you rock
😂😂😂😂 🙌🙌🙌
🤣
Hold my beer. I'm going to go ask EVH to join our band.
The Wyld Stallyns was the bandname in the first Bill & Ted movie (B&T Excellent Adventure), starring a very young Keanu Reeves as Ted...🤓And they spoke in the movie several times about EVH to join the band. So nice try to make fiction real.. 🤨 Party on, dude...(In German Synchronisation: Volle Kanne, Hoschi).... BtW: Rufus told me...😂😂😂
I "met" Keanu many many years ago when he was in Australia with Dogstar who were supporting the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. He and the lead singer guitarist walked into the guitar store I was managing in Perth at the time which was suddenly FULL of people!
I had a brief chat with Keanu & he was as nice as his everyone says he is. He was talking with people in a relaxed, kind manner and graciously signing autographs. Seemed like a really genuine person.
@Realfi I bet that came about because Anthony Keidis had a small part in the film Point Break which Keanu obviously stared. Not sure if that’s where they met or they already new each other and keanu got him the small part in the film.
I like that the camera doesn't really linger on Keanu any more than it would another bass player.
I think what sets Keanu apart, is that unlike his peers people see him as genuine. He plays music not fr attention, but because he enjoys it.
Yeah and that's very clear by this video, he's hardly in it! Pretty sure he's said to the film crew "focus on them, I don't need the exposure" with just enough shots to sell the song.
Who else just LOVES when Justin picks out the chords and progressions in 2 seconds?!!
I find it amazing that you find it amazing...
Honestly, If you play guitar or other instruments, it's not that hard to hear where the song is going next - especially one so basic as this.
Me ❤❤
@mymodel6 I find it amazing that you find it amazing that Jade find it amazing 😁
Anyone who has been playing more than a year should be able to do this.
I had a friend and coworker in the late 90's who was a the merch girl for Dogstar. She traveled with them for about 4-5 months! She took me to a show in LA of theirs and took me backstage And I got to meet Keanu. We talked for about half an hour or so and I can say that yes he is one of the nicest guys ever!
Keanu got the bus with us from Glasgow to Strathclyde Park when Dogstar played T in the Park in 1996 😊
I knew that Keanu had been related to music, as well River Phoenix (who was his best friend) was. But i didn't know he was in a band playing bass.
I liked it, and i like all things Keanu does because he is perfect as a human! 😊
“Never really quite gets out of second gear” haha I love that it’s a perfect way to describe that song.
Ahh Justin. I do love me a smart ass! Friday the 13th. Chicago. I was at your pre-show do, wore a Ramones/NYPD Cop leather, a The Darkness watchman's cap. It was my first The Darkness gig. It will not be my last, I hope. I'm pretty fucking old. I hope Chicago showed you as much love as you showed us. You guys seemed in a very good mood. The vibe was totally positive. I've been in enough bands to be able to sense when someone's not happy. Thank you for the guitar pick, that was very kind of you. You all looked amazing, Frankie was on point, sartorially and bass playing wise. I detected no clams. Also, *I'm 160 cm. of pure bass player, you.* I would have bludgeoned "It's Love Jim" to the floor. Goddamn, I could write a novella here, but I won't. Your staff was great, even your long time fans were very nice. You guys were magnificent. I stood at the front for a while, and then I danced like a fool. I danced like the 26 year old I am in my head, and paid for it the next day like the 65 year old person that I actually am. Bastards.
This is so lovely, I hope Justin sees it....and I hope you've recovered from the dancing.❤
@@ZuzuTheLemon Thank you! Almost! LOL! Now I know I need to block out a recovery day after The Darkness.
He's wherever he wants to be because he's the CHOSEN ONE😎 (and lovely human being too❤)
I saw these guys around '97 in LA. they were one of the openers for Dick Dale. There was another band on the bill too with the Bassist /songwriter from Skid Row. Dick Dale was the highlight musically, but chatting with Keanu was cool too, Nice guy.
Yes I knew Keanu has a band. Ryan Gosling also had a band. They did an album called Dead Man's Bones.
I love the Ned's! They need to get more exposure. Why not do a breakdown of how their sound worked‽
I've been wanting to do a "Grey Cells Green" trailer remix for so long, haha.
I’m gonna see them live in a few weeks! Can’t wait 😍🔥
I loved Ned's Atomic Dustbin! 2 bassist & the songs were amazing. Bats in the Belfry. Or later Legoland! Thanks for that!
They're playing in Sacramento in December which is a little over an hour away from me. Thought about going but the tix were too expensive--I'm sure that has to do with Keanu being in the band. Love that guy and the band isn't bad. I know he's been in this band for decades and does it because he loves playing music. He has no ego, whatsoever. Such a genuine guy!
@chrisclifton6800 Their drummer is also an actor, but I don't think he's done anything in quite awhile. I was quite surprised at the price of the tickets for their show, tbh. Granted, it's a more intimate venue with not a bad seat in the house, but still...
1995 Dogstar toured Australia with Bon Jovi. Perth dates were cancelled when BJ drummer hurt his wrist. Dogstar played a nightclub instead and heard Keanu ended up hanging out at a small town surfing spot down south from me. Margaret River.
I saw Dogstar at a local festival in a Chicago suburb and it was surreal watching Keanu on stage with a freight train rumbling behind him. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics or videos because it was a long time ago and I'm not sure cell phones were that great with photos and videos.
Lol
Got out of a Pearl Jam show in 2000 in Seattle and Dogstar was playing the club down the street.
Justin Fucking Hawkins Rides Againnnnnnn!!! 🎶🎶🎶🎸
Just saw you guys in Chicago on Friday and it was the most fun I've ever had at a concert.
I love the fact that you referenced Neds Atomic Dustbin! The Neds were my favourite live band back in the day and I loved the bass playing of Alex who played all the high notes. Chapeau sir!
Can't believe I had to scroll down this far to find someone who followed up on the Neds reference. Awesome band, and the multi-bass approach was under-rated.
(Even if they did sell more t-shirts than records. 😀)
I think it's bit like the stuff that Feeder did when they rediscovered their heaviness. Anyway, Keanu is a big music fan and I think he does this because he just loves to do it. He knows they wont change the world. He just enjoys making music like he enjoys riding his motorcycles.
Also, anyone remember Keanu appearing in a video for Anthrax some years back? Yup. He's a fan.
Love the Ned's reference. God Fodder was unique back in 1991, in comparison to what we were hearing in Canada/US.
Love the Neds! First band i ever got into as a spotty 15 year old skater.
2 bassists. I think one dealed with high riffs ala Hooky or your man from Royal Blood, whilst the other did the low end.
Theyre still going
Keanu Reeves just looks cool what ever he does. maybe he's just a cool guy 🙂
Back in the mid-90s, his band played at a club behind the bar I worked at - he was really nice. The whole band was...can't say the same about 311...
I was lucky enough to see the Bins back int day and I quite like this track of Keanus band, the QOTSA ref fits its got that chuggy stumble to it.
Dogstar have been going long enough now that we can all see Keanu is in it because he loves it, about time he got some recognition for his band other than "oh that band with Keanu as the bassist".
Frankie's coolness IS hard to beat 🙂
Needless to underline Frankie's high class and Style....😂
It's true ❤
I’m seeing dogstar in Philly in December!!! Next you must interview Butch Walker as the new Marvelous 3 record just came out . Butch has produced everyone from Green Day to Taylor swift
Yep, I remember Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. They had hits like Kill Your Television and Grey Cell Green, a popular music video on MTV’s Alt-rock show 120 Minutes (When MTV was still Music Television).
This album is fire, the first single they released is one of my fave songs of the years. They've improcved a lot over the years. Worth checking them out.
Neds is one of the best most slept on bands from the 90s. Got to see them a couple times. So underrated! Do them!
Yep, saw Ned's Atomic Dustbin play one of their last show in NYC at Roseland Ballroom on 8/18/1995. Letters to Cleo announced that Ned's label just dropped them during their show.
Hi.. Greetings dear
Glad to hear from you.
I appreciate your love, care and support
Where are you watching from?❤
Nailed it with the QOTSA comparison. This would have fit right in with the old Palm Desert bands. And this is waaaay better than their old stuff.
Queens of the stone age is a million times better. This is pretty average.
I'm a long-time fan of their work, saw them when they came to Chicago back in the day; love this new release. Thanks for the review!
I saw Dogstar on September 25th in Houston. They were amazing 🙌🏻🐾❤️🎸Their new album is great! They also played some songs that they haven't recorded yet! They were actually some of my favorites 😍 ❤🎉
I saw Ned’s atomic dustbin supporting Hawkwind in Edinburgh back in the eighties…great stuff.😎👍👍🎸
I thought everyone knew he was in a band
Sure, we knew he was in a band--Wyld Stallyns😁
Fender Precision Bass
Ned's Atomic Dustbin is one of the best bands from my youth. Totally underrated.
Absolutely mate, brilliant band.
He can do it all! (Both Justin and Keanu) ☺️
When I saw them at the Fillmore in the late 90’s they sounded like Husker Du. Ever time Keanu threw his hair back, girls in the front would scream!
@KeanuReeves-ot8xz Hi Keanu, maybe since 'MyOwn Private Idaho.' I wish I had gotten a Dogstar poster at that show! My friend has one. I';ve been in bands, too, mainly on guitar! Will you guys play San Francisco again?
Precision Bass!
P Bass has the two pick ups closer to neck.
Jazz Bass has a single pickup closer to the bridge.
Jazz bass?! Come on Justin!
Saw Dogstar in the mid 90's when they played one of the 1st "T In The Park" festivals when it was not far from Glasgow before it moved to where it spent the rest of it's "life" - Keanu was refusing the "rockstar" private car to and from the festival site and instead was getting the shuttle bus alongside the punters going to the event :)
you and the band were amazing at the sacramento show. cheers, justin! you have revitalized my rock and roll love and i'm thinking of picking up a Gibson Les Paul soon (white body, black and gold hardware)..
Dogstar supported Bonjovi in Australia late 90's. Melbourne concert was the best concert of my life so far......Keanu was unknown at the time, just a kid thrashing it out....sweet memories of youth❤
Keanu Reeves is such a humble and down-to-earth guy, he's not even in the shot for most of the time like a legit alternative rock bass player without any superstar power would.
If you had never heard of Dogstar they would get your toes tapping if you heard them spark up in a bar. You would then look up over your bottle and think “holy f**k, is that Keanu Reeves?”
i'm somehow expecting john wick to fight a 10-man onslaught as the rest of dogstar play to his victorious offensive
Hey Justin I heard a great interview with a famous musician who said he gets asked daily about his favourite show his answer was great he said if its a Saturday festival or small town Tuesday night it’s a big show to whoever paid for tickets and it’s his job to play the same for everyone love to hear your thoughts on the show someday👍
I LOVED Ned’s Atomic Dustbin!! I saw them play at Liberty Lunch in ATX.
Neds still going strong (apart from a hiatus this year due to illness). Go to see them regularly in UK - still brilliant live.
Looks like some 60s era fender precision bass.
I think.......we need to know if Keanu has sleeves under his blazer. For science, of course. 🔬👀
Keanu Sleeves?
Keanu use to come to my house parties back in 90-92. Totally laid back cat. I ran into him a few years at The House of Blues on Sunset when Dogstar played an opening slot. Most of the clubgoers that night had no idea it was his band until he walked out on stage.
of course he did 😂🎉
Yay! I'm seeing Dogstar in December!
Aren’t we going together ?
@@EvroMatt 😜
Dude Dog Star,in the 90s!Yeah! LIKE when They came to the South!NOLA in 95!Never 4 get that!
I might be wrong but Keanu has his own signature bass.
Bowie Black ⭐️ star came out on the day he died 😢 John Taylor Duran Duran is quite tall and is a great bassist
I think fender is teasing a signature bass for Keanu, saw you in LA at the Wiltern! Excellent show!
I saw Keanu performing with Dogstar at the North Dakota State Fair in 2001. He was playing bass my friends Standard Thompson opened. He had a shaved head as he was shooting the Matrix sequels.
LOLLLL i like *just* watched the reeves vid an hour ago. so funny to have this pop up with a title that reflects my initial reaction to it. :D
((EDIT: *the fender vid* that had him talking about life, how he came to cali, that he always wanted to play bass. etc. thought you were reacting to that vid at first. it was really cool. a little peak into his life.))
Long time, I saw him open with that band, god I think it was for Def Leppard in the later 80's. Hell I was still a kid.
Keanu is playing a 61 or 63 fender i saw a video the other day of him talking about it
He just played nearby last week. His name is on none of the posters or adverts
Hi.. Greetings dear
Glad to hear from you.
I appreciate your love, care and support
Where are you watching from?❤
Justin please stop taunting us by name dropping Suede and do a video on them!
Feels a little bit like The Hives... Apart from the vocals. Watched the rest after I said that and you mentioned The Hives. Glad it's not just me.
I saw them in the late 90ties in Chicago and absolutely love the singer Bret Domrose and am so happy they are back together.
It's a Fender P-Bass and Fender teased a Keanu sig model coming soon.
Surprised to see your band touring Straya again! Will the set list be different to last year? Wouldn't mind seeing yall again but I need a reason to justify the increased ticket price in my mind.
Neds... yes, Sir. Soap for sore eyes.
"It never really gets out of second gear" is a good way to describe it. I like the song, but another gear could have helped it.
The other songs from that Album though, I like them a lot more. Glimmer, for instance, is a good one... it's got a touch of Bowie about it... but yeah, they aren't a band that does anything fancy in their playing. Like a true 90's band, they just seem to try to focus on writing good songs.
They've been around for a long time. But don't worry that they slipped under your radar. Happens to me all the time 😂
I saw Dogstar in Houston back in the 90"s with a band called Silver Jet. Dogstar were pretty good but I thought Silver Jet put on a better show (not to take anything away from Dogstar, it was just my preference. The impressive thing to me is that Keanu didn't make the show about himself. Very humble and I agree with @wallyshomevideos1713 in the comments below. I don't think they are looking for wild musical success, they just enjoy playing music.🤘😈
Lol- Dogstar have been together about 30 years.
John Wick plays bass. There's a pump action 12-bore hidden in the back, just in case.
Yes... this comes up often that fellow Canadian actor, Keanu Reeves, is in a band called Dogstar and he's their bassist. But it's never anything that impressive compared to him as an actor
supposedly born in Beirut and raised in Toronto..
Well, Justin, you posted this video two days ago and it seems you didn't know Keanu was in the band prior to starting your review. I discovered Keanu played bass and was in a band about five minutes ago and then BOOM! I stumbled across this video. TOTALLY mind blowing, man!
Saw Dogstar at T In The Park to a fullly packed tent. That tent was half emptied after the first couple of songs. Remember it being dreadful so interested to hear their new song on this broadcast today.
Seen your show at the Vogue last night, great show, best I've seen in years, highly recommend for everyone!
Indy? If so, great venue!
Dogstar has been around a long time. They did a lovely rendition of The Carpenter's song Superstar years back.
That bass player used to play really excellent air guitar in another band called "Wyld Stallyns" which came out sometime 1989.
Massive Ned's fan and saw them several times. Also the Pixies are one of my favourite bands.
As for the Darkness, I can't wait to see you for the first time in Belfast in December.
Saw The Darkness in Indianapolis on Saturday. Absolutely killer show! Can't wait to see you guys again.
Just in time ... rides again with another stellar video for us music lovers
If you want to talk about unlikely actor/musos, I saw Steven Segal & Thunderbox at Buxton Opera House in 2007. Very VERY good to be honest.
I still have my Neds Atomic Dustbin LP. ..gave it a spin the other week, n felt really old aha x
Hi.. Greetings dear
Glad to hear from you.
I appreciate your love, care and support
Where are you watching from?
Theyve written some good music. They rocked the roof in House of Blues 💙
I have been watching and listening to them since the 90s.
Justin speaking of a drummer and vocals, have you reviewed the band The Warning, three sisters from Mexico who are a really WTF great three piece rock and roll band. In fact the drummer has just now been named 2023 rock drummer of the year. Her name Paulina Villarreal has a voice that howls with growls of eerie haunting melodic vocals, the guitarist and oldest sister Daniela being main vocalist shares many lead vocals with Paulina. The youngest sister Alejandra is becoming a five string bass goddess that joins in with harmonies. Give them a look, or never ride again. Well keep riding anyway.
"He's playing on the dusty end..." You're killin me Justin!
He was also in Wyld stallyns!! Party on dudes!!
Love the cultural reference, neds atomic dustbin, I went to college with the drummer in the late 90's, when he was training to be a music teacher, he is a lovely lad
PBass dear Justin, not a Jazz Bass… check the Pup’s.
2:00 hahaa! i was thinkiing that at the time too!!! he SO looks like a bassist. it's wild!
