No tape!? I just tried my first custom and even with tape I jacked spots up. Like no matter how careful I felt I was, there was a bristle or too much paint on the brush and I would get paint where I didnt want it.

Angelus matte acrylic finisher is more glossy than matte 4-coat. You will need to use duller with the matte acrylic finisher.
