the main point you need to be careful of (especially with the ultra light newer single layer boards such as MSL etc):
After carefully removing the damaged fin box,
check for small holes with some dish cleaning soap mixed with water, and the board inflated to usual full pressure...
Wash off thoroughly with fresh water, then patch holes you find (if any).
Checking this before you apply the new one will be best.

NOTE: if you are removing an old fin box from a single layer inflatable SUP :
check for air leaks after removing the previous fin box, and patch any holes in that area before applying the new box

I'm not really understanding the instruction to put on a layer of glue, let it dry and then put another layer of glue. Are you saying to put more glue on top of the glue that has dried? If so, I'm not seeing how that would work. Could you elaborate? Thanks

We're following the directions of the average PVC adhesive glue supplied by inflatable SUP manufacturers, if you have some other glue you should follow the directions of that.
Basically it is the way to get the best adhesion.

I have the V2 model (I think) with the separate back plate. I understand that I'm not supposed to glue the back plate to the box, but should I glue it to the board? Or do I only apply the glue to the soft PVC on the box and leave the back plate "free" in the box?

Yes, you can glue the back plate to the board.

If you use a heat gun, be careful not to damage the layer(s) beneath
