The 180 is the older brother who wasn't cared or appriciated by their parents and the 175 was the younger brother who got all the pampering and attention.

i rode a 175 from Hereford to Newport a couple years back, that was probably the most comfortable i'd ever been on a train, ever
i'd happily ride one all the way on a route to see what they're like on longer journeys, welsh countryside in comfort sounds nice
As do i, though the longest journey on a 175 I've rode on was Bridgend to Newport, about 31 miles.

I travelled on a 175 on Friday from Newport all the way to Manchester which was a 2 car unit on it's own, normal I know but I was the last person to get on at Newport before they had to turn people away on the platform! Thankfully Abergavenny was an almost total clearout so managed to get a seat, good job I was tired and wanted to have a nap with how far the seats lean back!
Hahaha, you poor man. Good thing you got on board lest you be waiting another hour for another packed service! :D Still, well done for the stations again. I believe the German clip was filmed at Stuttgart Hbf, but I'll have to ask my friend again on that.

Very cool video about the coradias, I'm surprised you didn't cover that new LNG trial however, last time I was on that unit the engine idled the whole way and did not rev. The top speed for that trip was barely 100
Main reason I didn't mention it was that I had no idea what it was until I did some googling just now. Not filming it didn't help reminding me either.
It's worse than you think. LNER are ordering bi mode 397s to replace their class 91s, instead of IETs, simply because they are cheaper. Given the major focus on bean counters over everything else now, I can see these units being ordered for everywhere else....
Bi Mode 397s eh? Facinating. I haven't rode on the 397s yet, but I'll be interested to try them as long as they aren't 5 cars.

Mhmmm, I've rode a 2 car service from Crewe to Stockport in the morning peak once. Almost as bad as the Birmingham Int. to Aberystwyth service. Almost.

Fun fact. Someone told me EMR are likely to KEEP their 180s longer than planned, because of IET delays, and for WHATEVER reason, they may in fact keep the 180s on till the last batch of IETs arrive. Why? Because the 222s may likely be transferred to XC, but no one wants the 180s... so EMR are keeping them?

Compared to the 800 and 801 they were actually decent but very underused.
I’ve been on the class 175 and it was decent but it would be better if the coaches are longer.
If the coaches were made longer, you'd start hearing some rather concerning metallic scraping when going via Earlestown.
The coaches are 24m, so pretty standard length even for new units. The only ones with longer coaches really are the IETs

It's never good to have your entire fleet consist of one type, so I think the IET barrage is a very bad idea. Just look at what happened when the GWR ones cracked...
GTR, Southern, South Eastern, Chiltern Railways and Merseyrail all whistle nonchalantly.
