Great Video mate! These are my favourite trains. I thought I’d let you know that I’ve spoken to staff at Avanti about the pendolino refurbishment and they said that they are doing everything they can to make sure the pendolinos don’t have horrible seats like the IETS. Let’s hope that Avanti don’t put the diamond hard seats in the pendolinos. That would be a tragedy.
It will be the biggest railway related riot in railway history. Also, since you never mentioned in the video, do you prefer the pendolinos or the voyagers?
Weirdly enough, I travelled back from Lancaster on a 390 a few days ago, very pleasant it was. (I've travelled on these loads of times, first time being around 2006-7) I pretty much agree with everything you said in this video, beats any IET or Voyager Also, 390119 looks pog as F if you ask me, might be a little over the top, but I like a pride train.
Last weekend i rode a new pendolino and an old one a few things to say that 1) window alignment is better to some degree 2) at seat power points are very useful with bigger tables (except no cup holders so your drink sometimes slides) 3) the seats arent the iet seats, however they arent as comfortable as the virgin trains seats 4) first class and standard premium still have the same seats (i think standard premium is useless tbh) 5) the passenger info screens on the outside are more vibrant (but the ones inside werent working for whatever reason) 6) i love the shop so much idk why Overall the new pendolinos are okay aside from the seats themselves it was a solid upgrade
The 5 car 805s are the bi-mode trains meant to replace the Voyagers. Still a bit of a downgrade though, and they should really be 7 cars themselves as the Voyagers already have capacity issues, and it's only going to get worse.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel Well I think the plan is to have only the 7 car class 807s work alongside the 390s, which is still silly, but not as bad as 5 cars. I guess it's a pointless conversation anyway, and it's just me being pedantic.
I sorta understand why avanti is gonna use 5 car trains to replace the voyagers, but why oh why would you use non tilting trains to replace tilting trains, and why would you use 7 car trains to support 9 and 11 car units that get overcrowded sometimes. IET syndrome, if XC doesn't get IETs to replace the voyagers in 10 years or so il be sp surprised, lol
When I took one of these from Edinburgh to Birmingham, the little dot board just said 'Milton Keynes' over and over. Everything was going great until the screen in the train blue screened. I thought the train had errored for a moment! Everything was all good, we just had no clue where we were. (The announcements were broken btw) good trains tho! I also exclusively hunt 390119 so make of that what you will
Since the refurb is apparently complete now I'm interested to see what this train would be like. Tickets don't appear ridiculous unlike LNER - I say that because they actually kept an open return option. mind you those first class prices are eye-watering
I remember when i didn't even know a thing about these trains. Now I use them fortnightly. I love them. If Angel Trains ruin the interiors though I will kill 🤣
as of this year (2024), I heard one time that one of the first class coaches on the 11 coach 390 and one of the standard coaches on the 9 coach 390, will get turned into a business premier coach for business people and meetings etc which will have a 3+2 seating, not sure if this will happen though.
My longest journey on a pendolino was 3 hours from London to Manchester Piccadilly which stopped at Milton Keynes Rugby Tamworth Lichfield trent Valley Stoke on trent Macclesfield and Stockport
I finally went on these on Monday. They're awesome to watch as they fly by Berkhamsted, the tilt is uncanny but man it's a bit cramped. Plus the window alignment really is cack. But honestly it is a fun train, and arguably better than the IET for the fact it can fly round curves at terrifying speeds.
Trying to look out the window was awkward because it just looked like I was staring through the glasses of the girl next to me, who I remember was watching Bob's Burgers or something
Just remember, its all fun and games until the train tilts and the person with the food trolley spills everything all over a karen passenger, then she tries to sue Avanti
I consider the Class 390 to be the closest thing in the UK to the Acela Express back here in the states. Both are high speed tilting trains built for routes with lots of curves. Of course the big difference is the Acela is six coaches long and uses powerheads. Also am I the only one who really dislikes the VT flowing silk livery? Like I understand why it exists but they could've done more with the styling. Even the styling that they did do at the front is overdone IMO.
I don't tend to react well to those saying "This better be good" almost as if it's a threat. As for the Grayrigg joke? Weeeeeell, comedy = tragedy + time and I feel like joking about an accident that happened 14 years ago is fine in my book, especially due to the casualty rate being so low.
