  • n the 1990s, a trend to be "tough on youth crime" led to nearly every state in the United States to pass legislation making it easier to prosecute minors in the adult criminal justice system.
An estimated 200,000 children under the age of 18 are tried, sentenced or incarcerated as adults in the US each year, despite many of these cases involving non-violent crimes.
Fault Lines investigates the impact of these policies in Michigan, where lawyers have filed a class action lawsuit against the Department of Corrections and Governor Rick Snyder on behalf of hundreds of teenage prisoners who allege harassment and abuse by older inmates and prison staff.

I had a friend go through the same ordeal in Michigan and years later when hislife seemed to be much better on the outside he committed suicide. This system is a mess.

Maimuna Bah We need to bring back traditional family culture, and do away with progressive liberal policies that have destroyed the family, by making self’Me’ and victimhood, a normal way of life. Its not sustainable, and never ends well. We need to live with purpose in life. It starts with family, and ends with family. Godspeed.

By the time a councillor shows up it's too late, the damage has already been done!!! There is absolutely no reason to imprison youths, under 18 yrs old in the same prison system as adults!!! Why is it that politicians, ADULTS at that don't understand what kind of savages they are locking kids up with??? Yes, most are probably guilty but they are sending lambs into the wolf's den, so to speak...

This is where society gleefully sends people? Don't get me wrong, some crimes are awful, the person who did it may also be awful, but we as society have the responsibility to ensure these people's dignity all the same. We are supposed to be the bigger person, ensure these people leave better and whole, not broken and damaged beyond repair. To support anything less, with your tax dollars footing the bill is unacceptable.
