When the Confederates captured Tucson they sent a small patrol to the West of Gila Bend where it encountered Federal Troops moving East from California, which eventually resulted in the Battle of Picacho Peak the farthest West Civil War Battle. But the Battle of Stanwix Station West of Gila Bend was the furthest West encounter though a small skirmish
