John Byrne was the man in the early to mid 80s.Collected all the originals plus the FF too.Great school day memories.I felt like the only kid in the whole school or town that read Marvel comics and kept it secret here in the UK.Nevertheless lovely memories.
Looking forward to getting this, no idea why I passed on the first printing...I've only read maybe 3 issues of his Alpha Flight. Man, I miss John Byrne working at Marvel.
Looking forward to revisiting these issues which I read in singles BITD. So pleased this has been reprinted. I love John Byrne. I grew up in the same UK town he was born in and if you know West Bromwich you’d know why he’s so cranky all the time!! Thanks Omar for the review and for keeping the pressure on to get these valuable reprints.
I am DEFINITELY going to buy this one (again). I sold the older printing, because I needed the cash. Now, I can have a choice for the cover. Thanks Omar! Much appreciated for one of my most anticipated overview - Alpha Flight by John Byrne omnibus.
LOVE X-Men 140!!! I'm a Quebecker, but more than that, it was the first time we actually saw Wolverine's friends. And that his name was Logan!! Fantastic issue...
Re: Brown costume: Dave Cockrum was fired from X-Men so he gave Wolverine the new 'Fang' costume with all the details as a funny fuck you to the artist taking over. Byrne then adapted a combination costume of Wolverine and Fang and that as they say, is that.
First thing I read was Superman Man of Steel number 6, so Jhon Byrne drawings are what it comes to my mind when I think of comics. I have no idea what Alpha Flight is, but I'm getting it because it looks just right. (hopefully we'll get a She-Hulk reprint soon)
I remember getting this several years ago dirt cheap. I thought it must not be good because it was on clearance. I was pleasantly surprised how great it was. Any John Byrne is awesome to me.
The colors on Sasquatch on that MTIO cover are slightly off. I still have the original and it’s not *that* reddish. Other than that, this one looks like a winner.
From all of the out of print john byrne omnibus, this is the last one that I need. Their is a bit of double dipping. There is some material I never read originally, and then there is the main bit that that is a revisit back to the 80s. I like the image combo under the dust jacket idea, but it would had been great if they had done as a size chart rather as a cut and past job. Other than that I am looking forward to receiving this. Thanks omar for the honest up front review
Man, there's a lot of things that I need to read from Marvel Comics. Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, DareDevil, and so many other comics from the Marvel Universe. But Alpha Flight, that's something I need to read.
Hey Omar...curious question since your a master omni collector. Do you ever plastic cover your omnis before you put them on your shelf? I use Brodart clear plastic on ALL my books and curious to ask.
@@davefuentes3542 ive bought hard to get omnis in the past like Spiderman vol 1 before the reprint and was like Wtf??? How could someone not take better care of the dust jacket
Got the original print. (and the Classics, and the original issues) BUT 1) Give me Omnibus Volume 2 with the Mantlo run 2) Give me Epics! Such a shame they didn't kick them off this year for the 40th of Alpha Flight 1!
I think they should have stayed with the original boards design but it’s a good looking book nonetheless. Prefer the DM cover as the yellow background really pops. Thanks Omar!
I've already read the FF by John Byrne and the Thing, the read was cool!! Now I can't wait to go in this journey of Alfa flight!! Also we need the reprint of She-hulk!!
Sasquatch lookin kinda' orange there. Too much sun? Jokes aside, I am absolutely thrilled to be getting my hands on this badboy. This was a golden era for comics absolute brilliance in both storytelling and art. As for the snowblind issue, damn did I feel gyped.
I rarely ever pre-order anything, but I pre ordered this without thinking twice. The first printing, I had this since day 1 so knowing that for anyone that is on the fence, be sure to add it to your collection. I doubt you will be disappointed.
Interesting side note about the creation of Alpha Flight. Originally they were intended to be a one-off. Byrne said he only created them to fight the X-Men in the 2 Parter about Wolverine. After that he did not intend to use them again. The book only came about because management like the team. Byrne did not want to do the book at first. I have forgotten what the deal was that got him to do it.
I preordered a copy, but have the first printing that was preowned. I won’t keep the new one if it has the same crappy imak quality of the crinkled pages/ink splotches
I read Byrne's run as original issues last year. The print quality of most of the issues is terrible by today's standards which is my main reason for getting this omnibus. What bugs me is that Secret Wars II issue 4 wasn't included in this volume. If you read Alpha fight 28 without it issue 29 begins with the feeling of a piece of the story missing. I would have gladly done without the likes of some of the issues in this collection (Machine Man 18 for instance, since its not as important to Byrne's run as Secret Wars II 4) if it meant the issue in question was included.
Why wasn't this always Alpha Flight volume 1!? I was hoping it would get changed in a reissue, but I guess not. I don't understand what Marvel is thinking. It's the same with Avengers West Coast volume 3 being "Avengers by John Byrne". One of the reasons why creator-based releases drive me crazy.
The cover is such a weird choice, just placing PNG images taking from the handbook seems kind of lazy, can't say I'm a fan of it. With the dust jacket, I like the DM cover, but prefer the spine of the standard, so might go with that one. I'm also not a fan of Alpha Flight after John Byrne departs. When Mantlo takes over it's not too bad and I love some of the body horror issues featuring Lionel Jeffries/Omega. But once it reaches Issue 68, the story is not that great and the art becomes atrocious
I don't understand why Marvel chose not to make this volume 1. Evidently they aren't thinking about releasing a Mantlo and Mignola book soon and that is a shame. One day...😢
A lot of key issues during the Mantlo run (FULL DISCLOSURE: personally not my cup of tea): 1st appearance of LADY DEATHSTRIKE, crossover with The Avengers, Wolverine and (briefly) The X-Men, The Sub-Mariner, 1st appearance/introduction of The Purple Girl, 1st Jim Lee professional artwork.
Alpha Flight is so criminally underrated.

THIS!!!
I kept my love of Marvel comics a secret when I was a kid in the 80s.People weren't as tolerant of comics back then as they are now
Easily one of my most anticipated pre-orders! So happy marvel reprinted this! Thanks for the coverage as always Omar 💪📚

Byrne’s two-and-a-half-year run on Alpha Flight ranks up there with the best!
Can't wait to pick this up, been waiting for the reprint. Hope we get a Mantlo omnibus soon, and I'd love some epics for the later stuff.
I hope we get more Alpha Flight collections. Omnibuses or Epics
Let’s go Alpha Flight the hype is real woohoo
I never read alpha flight. I need this as an epic.

Great video, Omar! Love your enthusiasm. "John Byrne was insane" lol
Alpha flight is the coolest superhero team imo.
I'm the first like and comment! Next we need Mantlo's run in Omni format because his run is SUPERIOR to Byrne's! I said it!
Just because you said it (wrote it?), doesn't make it true.

The X-Men the hidden years omnibus supposed to come this month. Now it coming out next year
And What about Vol.2 by Bill Mantlo ?
Boo-vee-A [loose pronunciation for Jean-Paul and Jeanne-Marie Beaubier's last name]. That's a hard 'A' at the end, like saying the letter A.

Probably because of the Alpha Flight Classic TPBs
