In this version it is Baroque. In the version where J. du Pre plays the Cello it is music of the pre Viennese classic era, which is the root for Haydn and Mozart. Who may decide how Monn wanted it to be played? I prefer the du Pre recording.
I honor your feelings about this, Helmut, and I deeply respect du Pre and her artistry. For myself, I think this brings alive the fact that this is far more a Baroque work than a pre-classical work.
Congratulations ! I have never heard Mozart described in these terms ! You might well be the only one holding this opinion. It might pay you to actually listen to Mozart...
Well,it depends on the person.he has a right to feel that way.everyone is diferent and people will like things diferently and see things diferently.what a person likes depends on their character, values etc and not everyone cares about co mplexity in music.but he has a right to like monns music more.but mozart is pretty good and the co plexity in his music is used perfectly and even though i only esteem baroque music because of its qualities ans beauty thats unsurpassed ,mozart is the only one that comes close to the beautiful music of the baroque

du Pre play it too romantically. She play it nicely, but without any consideration of the historical period of the concert.
A good and legitimate question.
Think it could have been anything between that poles.

This was originally for Keyboard
Du Pre's version is still unmatched... nice though
I do prefer GMM than Mozart . His music is lively. Mozart 's music expression is morbid.
