Today's Card magic Tutorial is about palming. The diagonal palm shift is a way of palming out a playing card in the action of replacing it to the center of the deck. This is used in a wide variety of performances, most notably the card-to-pocket routine. I am also going to run through a multiple card shift. Enjoy!

Did you get notified for this video?
Chris Ramsay yes sir
Also.. first 😤
Chris Ramsay no
No. I don’t need to because I come as soon as possible
Got a notification, but there was no video for a few minutes...
The Snowball Thing was the best ;D

He still did it so clean 🤣
Mr. Ramsey, I’m a beginner/rookie magician and am totally in love with cards and card magic. In my pursuit of flawless sleight of hand I tumbled across one of your videos and have become addicted. Thank you so much, sir, for being extremely patient and thorough and not a dick, lol. Please don’t ever stop. Much love and respect.
Chris: Palms card sideways.
Me: Has more windows in my hand then at home depot.
998 966 omg, same, my hands are so small!!! I can only cop and tenkai
998 966 me too, and my hands aren't even small!
Not small, but slim fingers. Know that too. You just have to turn your hand a lil bit crosswise. Upper side of the hand closer to you. Just a little bit..
Gildas Dollo what if no matter what position u put the card in it will always be showing?
Same here.
Chris ramsay & Alex Pandrea have the best DPS on RUclips. thank you both for helping us perfect ours!
Hey Chris, I'm a casino pit boss trying to find resources to supplement Erdnase's book. This is the cleanest, most natural DPS I have found on YT. I won't go into the details but this move can be used to trivially produce a blackjack even in the procedurally controlled environment of the table games pit and resources like yours help games operators to detect inside cheats early. Thank you so much for your videos my friend you're doing a service for industries outside of card magic.
i just watched your video from February 28th 2017 5 things magicians do wrong... you said you do what you love and even from a child till now the hole in the deck cards to cardistry i have loved magic in any form..... you are a god and one of my favorites who actually get it... keep it up Chris
Good insights, mine is so much better after watching this. Thought I had it down but looking back...nope.
For those of you with small hands...No joke I initially felt my hands were too big! When looking at the palming position I'd have my pinky curled up so the card would fit between the tip and my palm but that created huge windows.
Had to work out a slightly different palming position, so don't get discouraged if your struggling. Everyones hands are different.
Congrats on the 1/2 million!
Wow, I've been working on my DPS for ages and couldn't figure out how to make it look smooth. Hats off to you and Xavior Spade because that's so simple and awesome.
Even after reading instructions for the dps over and over again I never visualised how natural and graceful it could look until now, and now I know why mine looked terrible.
One of the best tutorials ever.. and pretty sure THE BEST CARD TRAILER I HAVE EVER SEEN!!
You are a legend!
I'm actualy impressed how clean that is. I am really impressed on how clean your sleights are, and how creative you are. Like that sbowball thing was actually an amazing idea, even if you might have done it as a joke I still really liked the idea.
Love your work, thank you for sharing this with us
Trick with snow is the best :D
Hey Chris. First of all i have to say that i started loving magic when i saw shin lims pen and teller piece of magic. By far i've learned many things from you. You make the video fresh and smooth by your funny acts. Your stuff is not boaring. Thanx for that. Your ideas are really genuine and genious. Thumbs up man. Love your content.
Loved it, gonna spend my weekend on this for sure !!
I never wanted to learn magic before, but your videos are so engaging and entertaining that I actually want to try some of these
Even if I already preform the move and know usually chriss tutorials improve the way i do thanks chris you have been a great motivation in my magic through the good and bad times
FOR PEOPLE WITH SMALL HANDS!
my weird variation of DPS that i call "Vertical Palm Shift" does the DPS but injogs the bottom left corner, swivel with left thumb on bottom short edge till its in a gamblers cop, take deck and stand it up vertically on left palm (hence the name "vertical") control the card to top or bottom.
hope it helps, a bit angle sensitive but should work well if youre experienced.
Ramsay on sleight of hand. How to palm a card from the centre of the snowball. 10/10 would buy :P
I don't know why but chris your dps is too satisfying to watch...
The DPS is a tough move to teach/show via video. Chris, you did a great job. I supplemented the video with Erdnase's instructional to finally get it. Slowing down the video playback speed was a key for me. Now I have to refine it. Thanks again!
More than 3 million now...
Sometimes watching old video of chris really bring back memories of myself trying to practice magic from chris’ tutorials and failed terribly 😂
Congratulations chris :))
P/s: i still can’t stop laughing the ice dps part 🤣🤣🤣
chris watching your channel has got me back in to doing magic again
I spent a lot of hours of my free time but when I performed it to my friends they all went crazy and with this trick I got the girl I like to notice me tnx Chris ur the best
@Alex Hays Alex why are you getting so angry all of a sudden? Even if he didn't congratulate the guy.
!!! Дааа, Говорят , ЧУДЕСА только в СКАЗКЕ. РЕСПЕКТ!!!
I've picked up some great books on slight of hand and I've improved in card magic bc I listened to Chris in his book video...
Nice little editing touch there at 1:21. The timing of showing the cards and the music at the same time was dope. We can really tell you put a lot of passion into making these videos. Thanks for the tutorial.
Not long ago while practicing the DPS and Daniel Madison's Squeeze Shift, I saw how easy it is to reverse the chosen card on the bottom. I played around with a few ideas of where I could go from there and finally came up with a trick I call Beyond Your Imagination. I do the move while talking about the power of imagination and determination. The patter is the misdirection. Every time while I'm doing the move, people are looking at me and listening to what I am saying. There is really nothing to see anyways. When I reverse the card it is placed on the bottom side jogged out the back a little, in Biddle Grip. I spread the deck and the chosen card gets hidden underneath the spread. I square up the deck and ask the spectator to cut the deck and then complete the cut. lol, yep, They just cut their card reversed in the middle of the deck! They put their finger on the deck and I talk about them imagining reversing their card and placing it back in a spread of face up cards. I turn the deck face up and what they were just imagining, they are seeing now. It gets crazy good reactions as they turn over their card!
Just wanted to share that with you and the #RamFam, take care!
Dude, that is awesome! ITS BEYOND MY IMAGINATION!
Anyways imma use this with my weird variation of DPS that i call "Vertical Palm Shift" does the DPS but injogs the bottom left corner, swivel with left thumb on bottom short edge till its in a gamblers cop, take deck and stand it up vertically on left palm (hence the name "vertical") control the card to top or bottom.
Nice but why not use marlo`s future reverse ?
There is a version of this in royal road to card magic that only uses a control and a double lift.
The snow deck was awesome 😍😍
THIS IS AMAZING, I said it before and I'll say it again, I started magic because of you, and it helps me with self confidence and such, thank you ❤️
I love those sleight of hand tricks!
Congratulations Chris, and thanks for your videos! Big fan of yours, big hug from Portugal!
Gracias amigo!!! Muy pero muy bien explicado. Eres un genio. Te mando un abrazo desde Argentina!!
The fact that you achieved almost 3M from 500k subs in less than 2 years is just amazing👍🏼 keep it up Chrisss!!!
your tutorials and videos really helped me
Flash alert at the beginning, love ur videos tho Chris, amazing, keep up the fantastic work
Went from 500k to 3m subs crazy!! Love the tutorials learning more and more from you everyday. Gotta say I’ve been blowing peoples minds lately and I love it. Keep it up with the tutorials Chris my man!
This vid popped up again thanks to youtube. Thanks again for teaching me DPS Chris. All the details you pointed out were all the things i struggled with back then lol.
One of the first videos I saw that brought me to your channel was the Spread and Butter on 52 Kards. In that video, you briefly talked about the DPS And I have been waiting for your tutorial on this move ever since. It’s cool to see things come full circle
Congratz Chris for 500K! You deserve that so much for all the work you did and the big step last year! 😊 Funny how you have to adress the puzzle-dudes now as well haha!
How times have changed
👨👦👦🗡️🤫
Guys if you look very closely in time 0:45 you can see the card behind his hand. I’m not hating I’m just saying he could improve a little on that! Anyways good job Chris you really got me the first time you did it!
Sei un grande Chris!! You are a great magician!! Thanks for your advices!! Ciao from Italy
I’m just getting back into the swing of things, thoroughly enjoying your card tutorials, thanks man
Hey Chris congrats on the half a million - Philippines
You should do a deck collection video for 2018 like you did for 2017!
You are the best in card moves
That finger trick you gave fixed the problem I was having thanks Chris
Hey man, yeah I came to this channel by going down a rabbit hole watching the slo-mo guys and seen a suggested video for your channel that had the viking puzzle. I love puzzles to begin with and enjoyed the video. At that time I had no idea that you were into magic and cardistry. Which cardistry blew my mind, I had no idea that playing cards were that intricate and so popular. So I actually picked up 2 decks of cards, first one is the DKNG Red Wheel and the 2nd is the Theory 11 MailChimp Red. Glad I found your channel and keep up the good work! Cheers from Michigan!
Great smart DPS specially with the riffle rotation.TY
Bought this from Alex Pandrea/Blue Crown but just couldn't get the knack of it, great to see your handling to get some different perspective on it!
I love the just show tricks shows. Do more of this.
Beautiful tutorial, you’ve taught me so much and have brought me so much joy! Keep it up!! Also great cinematography👌
Right on Chris, thanks for the tutorials & I dig the music you pick.

LOVE the editing and filmmaking
I just found your channel and I don't know why I find it so interesting 😂
i love the way how you explain concepts and steps . very detailed . 4 thumbs up (wish there was another two hahaha) .
Always love he tutorials Chris thanks so much for all the different slights and moves!
Thanks for the tutorial! I loved when you palmed the card out of the snow lol
Really loved the tutorial
Thanks for sharing the move.
Great tutorial as always Chris, very useful sleight!!
Max Diamond sûre thing very usefull when everyone can see the trick!!! Where do you have your mind people, it’s supposed to be magic.. don’t complain if Magic is dying !! And you call your self a magician.. pfffffff !!!
oh and you can do better magic is meant to be taught you little
Hahaha loved that bit with snow .. funny 😂😂😂
Jokes aside even I do that big left hand motion ... 😐 Guess time to change it .. Thanks Chris ...
Another great video! I love magic (watching it) wouldn't consider myself to ever be good a magic but these tutorials are great for me to just use my hands! I suffer with a condition that over time has made my right hand in particular very weak and it's good hand therapy to do "fiddly" things. That's what got me in to building Lego haha but this looks cooler to do in public especially and Lego is super expensive haha 👊🏻❤️️
I use DPS almost daily! One of my favorite sleights to play with
Really love the video! I've been trying to work on this move and this helped out a bit. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Chris!
This is truly amazing. Thank you so much! 🤗
Keep making videos man..really appreciate your work. You r both a funny guy and a talented cardist/magician👏👏
"I have a vision a deck of cards with a beautiful back design of all green and regular looking pips"-Alex Pandrea
That snow palm was sick you should make a series dedicated to elemental card magic
I really struggeled with the move cause the palming off always lookt unnatural but by moving away the whole deck and actually just droping the palming hand it looks already much better thanks a lot bud
Quick control idea for this move.
I use this in my first control in my routine. because it allows the spectator to shuffle the cards there for showing them the deck is normal.
Usually I dps it out then do a palm to palm transfer and place it on top.
I push the bottom of like, for the scene in the snow.. That so crazy and funny.. 👍 Amazing control
I watched this for the first time in a year and still learned something.
Two tutorials for this week? that's sick! I love it~! although, I miss the vlogs, bank prank and street magic
It's incredible and AWESOME that you've gone from 500k to 1.8milion subs in about 9 months!! That being said I do miss these tutorials :/
You sir deserve a million subs!!! What a great channel you have!
Keep up the good work!
*Music makes everything good*
Smoothly done. Not all that difficult in my case. It wa a matter of muscle memory. Tnx for the video
Your channel literally exploded, now you have 1.6 MILLION SUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the snow?!!! Thumbs up earned! 😂
Dat flash at 0:40. But the trick is still good and it got me some good reactions.
Gratz on hitting that half a millie, keep killing it.
Very nice tutorial ! I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and learn so much from your videos. Keep doing the great work !
A whole new World whit this move!! thanke you very much
Very VERY beautiful man. I'm workin' on it.
Congrats on 500k my man!
Chris Ramsay, I am getting back into magic because if you, thank you for inspiring me again.
definitely gonna learn this even if this kills me just like all the tutorials you make XD. Love your videos !!!
I've tried to learn this move for quite sometime.. now when u uploaded a tutorial I must keep practicing until I get it perfect
really liked the video. helped me alot...thanks chris
Your tutorial videos are really dope. Keep up the great work!
I watched this tutorial ages ago, but this time I'm dedicated to learn this
I like how you said that you can even put it under their drink, and my reaction to that was,” If I put it under their drink, I’m gonna want to take a sip as well. And once I do I’m gonna say that their card is under the empty class😂😂😂” Get it?
thanks sir for the tutorials am impressive just because of you..
At last a tutorial for today THANK YOU!!
That's my favourite technique in card magic
I really like your videos, man!
peace and love from Germany
Funny how you're teaching DPS using NOC's and I was just practicing it from Alex's tutorial using Memento Mori's!
And I love the snowball! 🐧❄☃️
Much needed basic. Man I wanna skip practice and become a magician too.
