The next episode will be: (there won't be another episode, we think, sorry, but you never know)

Damn. The movie was so good that it revived the podcast. 💀💀💀
Yes. 100% true!
Just like the prophecy (stilgar screams)
Another win for the god emperor
@@reneperez7944 Lisan al Ghaib!
True 😂
WHEN THE WORLD NEEDED THEM THE MOST, THEY RETURNED!!
*ATLA title theme intensifies*
It was not Dr. Yueh, this was an Atreides council member that sat at the big table meeting in Dune part 1. The character's name was Lt. Lanville. He was the IRL fight coordinator for both films
Oh dang! Thanks! Brb going to flog the racist out of me
@@RILEYismyname No worries, I made the same mistake initially.
@@Justin_Leahy At the strategy meeting in Dune pt. 1 around 49:39 min/sec you'll see Lt. Lanville who's sitting to the right of Gurney. This is the arena prisoner Feyd is fighting.
@@RILEYismyname Also re: the Feyd Paul bisexual energy, Paul was meant to be born a girl that the Bene Gesserit wanted to marry Feyd Rautha in order to produce the Kwisatz Haderach. Could potentially be a nod to that - they have basically been engineered to be compatible.
he's in a few scenes throughout the first part. when the atreides are landing on arrakis for the first time he's the guy who says "shields!", also shouts "hey!" when stilgar first approaches duke leto
Linus said that you guys are back but only for really big movies that deserve a review.
I feel that's the perfect kind of setup.
fair enough, i NEEDED THIS IN MY LIFE OMG
dune? that new thing needs more attention?
Brother if you think dune is the new thing you most be put of the loop of science fiction@@Feeble_cursed_one
@@Feeble_cursed_one It's one of those once in a lifetime giga epic movies, like LoTR was in the early 2000's.
But then they won't review bad movies.. bad movie podcasts are also fun
Giedi Prime's sunlight scenes are shot in infrared lensed cameras. Hence, the harsh contrast and awesome alien feel.
Just to be pedantic, pretty much any lens can transmit IR, but there is usually a filter in front of the sensor that blocks it. So they technically shot those scenes with infrared filterless cameras.
@@CockatooDude yep. There's a great discussion with Fraser in Dolby channel on Dune 2.
Looked cheap and frankly very lacklustre conveying no sense of grandeur. Like a 2nd rate Gladiator scene. The lack of colour screamed amateurish film & demands acceptance due to the lack of colour in the whole movie. The weird fireworks just looked gimmicky. Can imagine the storyboard yes men giving it the thumbs up & patting each other on the back.
That's the point of Rabban's character though. He's basically a meat head with no rationale or inquisitive thought. He's supposed to be a character that is a bit intimidating but ultimately weak minded and easy to control and manipulate. I think his portrayal was spot on 👌🏼
Yeah, he's loud and strong but really it's all a facade, his explicit cruelty is just a cover he puts on in front of the real cruel sadists Vladimir and Feyd-Rautha
I loved his big whip moment. Pulling it out, being stabbed by Gurney Halleck half a second later. All that threat, all that bluster. Gone.
He's also terrified of his uncle and the wrath coming his way, he allows the fear to consume him.
I feel like us nerds hardly get good sci-fi movies, then along comes a masterpiece in the genre that even leaves regular movie viewers gob smacked. It's such a treat and truly a day in the sun for sci-fi fans.
they took Star Trek from us, they took Star Wars from us, they even took comic book and video game movies from us.
@@santinojoshuatorre1695 Picard was pretty good in season 3, but yeah, studios need to stop giving beloved franchises to people that don't understand or even like the source material. Denis is proof that finding people passionate about the IP is crucial to being successful
🤝
Raised by Wolves was a really good sci fi series that got cancelled. Season one was brilliant and still worth a watch. It's so rare to watch anything today that isn't pushing woke nonsense, some series' have had me switching off within five minutes.
Denis Villeneuve, Alex Garland and to some extent Christopher Nolan are really carrying the genre forward imo. Honorable mention for the early seasons of The Expanse!
I CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES. All these months of following you guys on Twitter and subscribing to this channel despite THAT announcement for the ultimate comeback. Might watch only 5 mins of this every day to make it last longer
a million fireflies
45:57 Those aren’t gernades, those are the water canisters used to store the water extracted from those Harkonenn soldier
In that scene, Stilgar even says that the water they extract from the Harkonnens are filled with chemicals so it can’t be used for drinking, but still useful for cooling units.
In the books there's a deal between the fremen and the guild to not allow ships to fly or record the south of the planet, that's why nobody knows what's there.
The deal is spice, obviously.
But the guild was rpetty much scrapped out of the movie. Thats why they had to resort to nuking the spuce fields... I honestly hated that part.
@@tedzards509 same :/
@@MuadDiiib i'm also sad about mentats being kinda sent to the background/erased.
It was a big reveal to know that the baron had tricked Thufir
@@ScoffMathews It was, but I also realize that there is so much you can fit into a 3 hour movie. Villeneuve has said that there were a lot of cut scenes, including multiple mentat scenes both in this and first movie, but that he just couldn't fit them in with the pacing and the running time of the films. The intrigue had to be simplified, and that kind of meant making these mostly from the Bene Gesserit perspective.
There wasn't enough info in these movies. Lynch had more info for the viewers.
WE ARE SO BACK
@@c.james1 yo mama
@@c.james1 I liked the WE ARE BACK and had to dislike that you are not!!!! I have missed you guys!!!!!
Lets goooo OW and this podcast now
I wish they were for real back. As much as I’m glad they did this I’m now more sad there won’t be more
As written!
Return of the KINGS?!?
Or the Lihsan Al Gaibs?
This is the best thing to happen since dune 2
THEYRE BACK
YEA BOIIIII
Something people are missing is that the Bene Gesserit training that both Jessica and Paul have undergone grants them, at its highest level, control of their bodies on the cellular -- and therefore indirectly the molecular -- level. That's how they neutralize the poisons. But that is *also* what grants them the memories of the past -- by accessing that level of minuteness and complexity, they're also granted access to DNA (mitochondrial also), RNA, etc. And the idea is that their is a shared pool of memory stored up in the gene pool, so to speak.
This also answers how Jessica and Alia communicate: they are already attached via the placenta, and communicate *chemically*.
This is my favorite LMG channel by far!!! Love to have you back guys!
With Gurney and Paul, there was a throwback to when they used to train. Paul knew it was him because of his footsteps.
Paul says the line, when is first sets foot in the spice field with his father, he is kneeling at the spice extractor, and says the line... and them Gurney wakes him up from spice trance.
I think for part one Paul saying that line was directed to the grandfather worm not gurney. As mentioned that the Lisan Al Gaib would know the ways of the desert even the inhabitants.
I'm so glad i watched the first movie a day before Dune 2, because i wouldn't have caught callbacks like these on my 2 year old memory of 1
The Atreides soldier in the arena was Lanville. He was in like 17 unrelated scenes in Part One in the background.
And played by Roger Yuan, the actual stunt/fight coordinator of the movie.
Roger Yuan is beautiful. I was mesmerized by his too-short scene in this magnificent film.
The movie was massive. Huge scapes, huge arenas, huge battles, huge soundtrack . . . and huge worms. I've been having a hard time putting words to how and why I enjoyed the movie so much.
There was a story
i want you guys to know that you have the best voices when it comes to movie podcasts. your insights and just general dynamic with each other are a step above other movie podcast shows. i am so so glad that you guys brought this back.
My only issue is that they are quite clueless about the books lore. Made this episode kind of less enjoyable.
I have really tried, but I still haven't found another movie podcast as good as this. Plenty good ones, none this good
We hate movies is a funny podcast.
Then why did this channel never gain many views? Seems weird
I’ve been trying to fill the void too. Blank Check is a similar vibe and has been the best I’ve found yet.
Totally agree. What's the next best that you've found?
Movies and Films by Jake and Joel
46:20 They were harvesting the water from the Harkonnen corpses and also taking the ammo to use in the war. That was my understanding and I think for instance that that's how they got the bazooka to take down the gunship protecting the harvestor. Afterwards they just left the scraps to be cleaned up by the worms.
this podcast needs to come back, even if it's like monthly
Man, I am SOOO HAPPY to see you guys back. I have been binging your videos for half a year. Your perspective and thoughts are golden. Thank you for the time, effort and love that are in these episodes
after i watched the movie my first thought was "damn, it sucks that the podcast is over now, i would have loved to hear what those 3 thought about this movie" and now i see this in my subscription feed??? WE ARE SO BACK BABYYY!!!
11:02 that’s actually Frank Herbert’s intention with Dune Messiah! When he wrote the first book he was mad that everyone saw Paul as a hero. There’s a really good interview with the direction of Dune Part 2 about how he incorporated that part of Paul from the second book into the second movie without needing to wait for a greenlit part 3. Really amazing stuff all around. Great job Frank and Denise and crew ❤
I think the reason for the smaller blades is that in order to get through the shields you need to be slow and deliberate. The more velocity the more the shield will repel. So big swings with a sword would bounce off and be awkward to control. Where a knife lets you get in close and apply the correct pressure to get through the shield.
YESS!! Ever since you guys left I was holding out hope you'd make an exception for Dune 2, thank you all so much for your work, this is my favorite channel!
28:58 in a recent interview, Denis actually said that he hates dialogue and wants to do as much as possible without talking
This is what made Nolan's Tenet so mediocre, it relied so heavily on exposition it took away from what made the movie conceptually interesting
Many people use it to lampoon Denis but I think of the quote like the thing they say about engineering. Great engineering is not when you have nothing left to add but when you have nothing left to take away.
If something in dialogue can be said instead by visuals, music, cinematography etc. Then say it using those instead. Your movie is great not when you've added everything they can possibly say in dialogue but when there's nothing you can cut from the dialogue.
“Show, don’t tell”
I don’t know how you could watch the end of the movie and think Paul felt like the good guy, it’s implied pretty heavily with the “Take them to paradise” that Paul is gonna go on a galactic wide death march
It’s so heavily implied. I think the best scene that encapsulates it is the dream telling scene. Paul is so enrapturing that the audience is swept up in it, but the score and Chani’s reactions make it clear that this is not a good thing that is happening. Also, the kissing of the ring and the stomp are so perfect.
Yeah, he just didn't feel like the bad guy. It was weird. You were worried he could do something insane, but after seeing how bad everyone else was, you still kinda rooted for him. I was never once horrified by his turn
@@user-ee9yt8kq9z I think that the bad thing he did is to use the Fremen, and we already know that it will end in a war with billions dead. One of the last lines is Paul acknowledging the coming of a Holy War, and the Fremen religiously following Paul into it. He is an anti-hero, not a straight villain. He predicted the future and picked the least bad option, in this case being the practical enslavement of the Fremen and jumping into a Holy War.
@@Belak-gq3wt so if the best moral option to go to holy war is he bad or actually not bad?
like if these are fremen who pledged their lives in military service and he has to have a war, it's not like he's murdering fremen
Juan here. You know how long it's been? Wolfgang-McSeamus Flying-Beagle-Eagle Von Trident is almost a year and a half old. He's doing great 👍
1:21:23 "it has electrolites" and "it has what the plants needs" are two quotes from my ALL TIME favorite move IDIOCRACY!!! tytyty for the reference. i absolutely LOVE that documentary! glhf fam and so good to see yall back!
Please come back permanently. Movie nerds want...NEED this podcast back.
AS WRITTEN! They uploaded! Lisan al-Gaib!!
Stilgar is shown as a tragic character because Paul views him as a father figure but Stilgar shows more and more devotion to Paul as a messianic figure
I missed this so much. It’s insane that this is the best movie podcast on RUclips and you guys shrunk it off like, no big deal 🤷🏻♂️
Don’t stop guys, please
This podcast is as good as Dune 2. Loved them both. Thanks for being allowed to make this.
The fireworks and arena scenes are filmed in infrared, giving the milk like optics.
Just wanna say for Riley, I loved part 2 but I definitely liked part 1 more. Also, Yueh gets his decapitated in part 1, so the slave gladiator was DEFINITLEY not Yueh
So happy to see you guys back at it again, really missed this
Oh, I'm here for it!! Good to see (and hear) you back guys!
Actually so hyped that y'all are back. I understand that the pods will be limited and this is a complete shot in the dark, but I would love to hear an episode on Godzilla Minus One. Regardless, super happy that y'all are back, this is why i stayed subscribed!
The Asian guy is Roger Yuan, who appeared in Dune Part One as Lanville. He's also the fight coreographer for both movies.
This is my favorite Sci-Fi movie ever. Seen it 3 times now, and the final 30-60 min of the movie got better each time. I somehow almost cried during the final battle scene because it's so epic and overwhelming
One of the best convos about this amazing movie. You guys are so entertaining to watch and i could listen to your insights for hours. Fantastic group, hope this podcast goes on for many other films
I relistened to the Dune 1 podcast after I watched the rerelease of the movie in theaters. I was really bummed that I wouldn't have a TJM podcast to listen to for the second one. I was so happy to see this come out!
39:52 I took it as Chani involuntarily taking part in the "Prophecy " when Jessica used the voice on her. Her name meaning "Desert Spring" and the Lisan Al Gaib recovering at a desert spring or something like that, was a way for Jessica to frame that act as fulfilling the prophecy.
It served as a symbolic and literal touchstone for all of the Fremen witnessing it.
Did you read the books
...at all? 👎 These books have been out for YEARS...
@@fmvilla29 Hey there. I was commenting on the scene in the movie. I' ve read the book multiple times starting @ 13 y/o, and early teens. Then once or twice a year every year, now in the middle of my 4th decade. 🤫
OMG 🎉 THIS MADE MY WHOLE WEEK! TYSM FOR COMING BACK!! WE MISSED YOU SO MUCH!!
I had to do a triple take when this popped on my feed. I thought RUclips was recommending me your video for Part 1. This is phenomenal! You guys were my favorite podcast before you left!
Paul's scene telling people their dreams reminded me of televangelists

I'm so glad to see you guys back. Hope you do some more of these.
Listened to your podcast on part 1 before I went to see part 2 and was sad that you guys wouldn’t be doing a follow up. THEY ARE THE ONE

I am soooo glad you guys came back for this!!! After I saw dune part 2 I was hoping you guys would come back. It was such an epic movie.
I’ve been patiently waiting for Dune pt2 to come out, and I’m so pleased you reviewed it!
For tilting the Harkonnen soldiers when they're using suspensors a multi point harness, 4 wires, shoulders and hips, gives almost full attitude control.
AS IT WAS WRITTEN THEY ARE BACK
Thank you so much for this!
Really missed this series.
Just discovered these guys from this video and god I hope they keep posting new episodes cause these conversations are the perfect caliber for a podcast
Good to have you back

Good to see you back for this one!
OH MY GOD ITS BACK
Really missed you guys. Great episode on a fantastic film!
The film isn't all that fantastic if you've read any of the books that are over 30+ yrs old.... casual
omitting Thufir, count Fenring and the Guild entirely was a bold move, but it works so damn well
I've been waiting for this ever since it was mentioned on the wan show that you guys were recording! I loved Dune part 2 :D
We NEED this podcast back regularly. What movie podcasts are there that are as good?
The Harkonnen heritage pays off in a later book when the grampa Barron possesses Alia

Podcasts for big releases please, 1 or 2 a year please, your insights are always so interesting
DONT TEASE ME LIKE THIS!!!!! ARE YOU GUYS BACK????!!!!!!!! Its been a loooooong 2ish years.
