With my A1’s shooting basketball I use focus tracking medium spot. That way if a player or ref steps in front of my subject it won’t pull focus. Highly recommended it. Thanks for the video.

omg thanks. Just had a try shooting for a local team a week ago and the grain was too much for me to handle XD. good tips, I'm going to check out editing now!

Canon r8 is pretty good, I did use the r10 as well, and I seen a few people using Sony 6400 and 6700 with a Viltrox 75mm 1.2, there is a lot of underrated cheap gear to use

Have you thought about back button focus?

I started back button focus about a month ago while shooting basketball. My regret is I wish I started sooner.

I used the sony a7ii with the sigma 100-400mm 5-6.3 and i shot at mostly 3200 iso and 6400 iso and the photos wasnt bad but i was using the wrong shutter for action lol. But first time using the lens anf shooting basketball it went south real quick

For right baseline or under the basket is 2.8 really enough ?

If you're shooting in RAW you can change the camera profile in Lightroom, helps to shoot in whatever you like obviously just to save the step of changing that, came with your white balance too. Are you not getting a ton of motion blur at 1/640? I've found I have to shoot at /1000 or /1250 to fully stop motion, and in the gym I shoot that results in 6400 ISO typically.

I didn't know that about Lightroom, gonna check that out. I get some motion blur depending on the shots, however, I'd rather sacrifice some sharpness instead of grain. The camera I have does play a huge part in 1/640 being usable. But ISO 6400 for a lot of cameras is unusable.

@@DTVprods. for sure camera dependent, I’d say any full frame camera from the last few years can pump out great images at 6400 ISO, especially when it’s so easy to correct in Lightroom now. Everyone’s tolerance for noise is going to vary. For sports I just really want that action to be frozen (unless the motion blur is on purpose for the shot you’re trying to create of course).

I currently have a Sony A7RIV and my basketball photos have been pretty grainy, any suggestions?

The camera isn't really that good in low light. Best bet is to lower your shutter a bit. Accept a bit of grain and just reduce it in post.

Word??? Damn, I just knew it was one of Sony's Photo heavy mirrorless cameras. I guess it is mainly for studio.
