It’s insane at how Tick, Tick… Boom works on many different levels
It works as a biography because Jonathan Larson himself wrote this musical and they have many footages of his performances. They have easy access to Jonathan Larson’s brain
It also works as an adaptation because it was directed by someone who fiercely admired Jonathan Larson and someone who knew the flaws of the original and someone who also performed in the stage version, and someone who can relate to Jonathan’s theme of “running out of time”
It also works as a movie because it knew that it was a musical by/for theatre nerds. It knows how to suspend your disbelief and make a delight for the eyes.
Tick, tick… Boom is a gold standard of musical adaptations

As a lifelong theatre devotee and aspiring actress/musician, I fell head over heels in love with this movie from the start and looked forward to watching this video as a way to remember why it is I do what I do: to tell stories that impact the world with people as wonderful as this cast and crew.
What I didn't expect while sitting alone and slightly hopeless in my college dorm, eating half-burnt microwave popcorn in front of my laptop, was to hear "and it's hopeful because, maybe, so is yours". Weird as I know it sounds, I'm already relating to 30/90 at 19 (the world's systems keep getting more screwed up, are any of us as special as we want to believe, I can only be Cosette and Christine for so much longer, etcetera), and the idea of genuine hope-especially at this time in the world-is a difficult thing to hold on to. The moment I heard those words, though, and the moment I first saw this movie with my best friend over winter break, and the moment I watched the cast party around the piano for the first time and smiled at the anecdote that Vanessa and Andrew both claimed Mary as their first role, matching mine, and when Andrew said a few things in interviews that aligned exactly with what I'd thought about humanity and art my whole life-this is what gives me that so deeply sought-after hope. To believe in oneself, to believe in others, to be driven by your passion while still trying to be aware of your impacts-life is such a balancing act, and the reminders that came in the form of this movie and all surrounding it are so wholly needed in my life right now.
Sometimes, when I sit in a practice room on the fourth floor of my school's fine arts center, playing Louder Than Words on one of the almost charmingly out-of-tune pianos, I wonder, silly as it sounds, whether Larson might be up there watching me. Up there with Sondheim, and up there with my grandmother, who showed me tapes of shows she once directed and sang along to them with me when I was still forming my love for theatre. Connections, legacy, and all that jazz-yet, it's the simplest thing in the world, to get through the mess and hold onto each other and continue allowing yourself to create.
    It's nothing short of everything.
(Also, the day the cut footage of Green Green Dress is released is the day the world might finally know peace. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.)

One thing I think is SO WILD is: even though I didn't know any of the things they are explaining here (didn't even know the actors were so famous in broadway) and somehow you FEEL IT when you watch this movie, the LOVE poured into it. It has stayed with me since I watched it and wont shut up about it

thank you Andrew thank you Lin thank you Jonathon - “what are you going to do now” has been the reoccurring question in my life as my health has continued to decline - tried one thing and it nearly crippled me - tried another but there was literally no work available - tried a third and even though it was slowly destroying my health it was where I belonged - even though I can no longer work - each day is a privilege to wake up and ask “what can you do now” - thank you thank you thank you for reminding us we are not the only ones looking for the answer to this question 💕💕💕 now I’m going to figure how to watch tick, tick, BOOM 🙏

I watched it how many times already and it always made me cry.. it's so sad that Jonathan didn't experience being praised by his talents.. didn't experience success, he has lots of questions about everything.... it's just heart breaking.. actually i dont have any idea who he was not until Andrew Garfield introduce me to him.. and the shocking moment is that the song when i was young that my mom and my family and I always singing, "525 600 minutes" that was so famous in my family i just know it just now that i was Jonathan Larson's song written for his musical theatre Rent.. 😭 i would like to thank the production crew and the Tick tick boom company for making this film.. it made me realize lots of things that we need to treasure every second of our life we have, cause we don't know when is our time. The clock is ticking and we all die with unfinished song..

My girlfriend and I finally watched "Tick, Tick...Boom" last week. It had been on the backburner for so long because we wanted to have time to actually enjoy it and not miss a single scene. My only regret is that we didn't make the time sooner because it was so much bigger and better than we were expecting. It was so good we had to stay up and watch "Rent" again to keep riding that wave.

I just keep thinking of Johnathan Larson, the creator of the musical of the 90s decade (Rent), looking down at Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator of the musical of the 2000s decade (Hamilton) and finally being seen.

I graduated late (at 28 years old) in my college degree due to many complicated reasons, worked for 5 years and I am 33 now taking up my masteral degree. And then you see peers of the same age having families of their own, in the middle of their lives... now I ask myself, am I too late in life? God, I miss my family.

This cast with director Lin are utterly the most talented for a musical movie. Andrew is the gem ofc. I am so blessed I have watched to learn the legacy of Johnathan Larson!

If Jonathan had lived, first of all I’m 100% certain that Rent would have still been every bit as successful, and gone on to enjoy the fruits of his labor I truly believe Lin would have reached out to him and his relationship with Mr. Miranda would have been something like the relationship Jonathan had with the legendary Steven Sondheim. Steven’s voicemail in this kills me.

jon larson blazed the trail for modern pop rock musicals to come to life, so though i am yet to watch rent, i can still see his influence over my fave rock musicals. lin did such an amazing job bringing his story to life, and both he and andrew poured out their hearts to make this passion project happen. i'm really happy that theatre nerds, rock fans, and cinephiles alike are now able to know about jon's life and legacy, and in an accessible platform as well
