  • Quick video addressing some questions and comments we've gotten on the SP-8x10 daylight tray.
    Sorry about the portrait format; seemed like a good idea at the time...

    I just used this tray with 8x10 for the first time and the results were excellent, thank you for this!

    As always, great product and great explanation of how to use it properly. Now, I just need a darkroom!

    Thanks. I have used mine twice now for 8x10 and I am very happy with the results and with the tank itself. I strongly recommend this tank for anyone developing sheet film.
    Just a couple of comments about my own experiences. I use the full 500 ml for developing. Since I make my own developer it is pretty inexpensive so hasn't made sense to scrimp on it. Second, I do agitate continuously with no problems so far. Of course I do change up my agitation routine so the developer is flowing over the film at different rates and from different directions so that may help. Finally, I do remove the lid when I get ready to wash but my wash cycle follows the ilford method so I do not have water running freely over the film from a faucet. I live in an RV and rarely have the luxury of unlimited running water. Additionally I use a septic tank, not a city sewer system, so dumping water indiscriminately into the septic tank causes problems I would prefer to avoid.
    Anyway, great job on the tank and the video was also very informative and well done. Again, thank you and your team very much.

    hello! thought you might like to know that the SP-810 works well with paper negatives as well. I've been using it to develop 5x7 paper negatives (Harman direct positive paper) for about a month now and i've had really good results. You do have to pre-soak the paper before developing though. The only time I forgot this step, it looked like the developer did not flow on top of the paper properly. I pre-soak the paper for about 2 minutes. thank you for creating this great tool!

    Hey, Tim, can these be used for C-41 and E-6, or just B&W chemistry?

    • @timklein185
      @timklein185  3 года назад +2

      Yes, good for all common chemistry. I've processed a lot of E-6 myself (and some C-41).

    Thank you, you have just cost me some money as I have decided to upgrade to the tray instead of the tank. Savings in the long run. Do I still need to tabs for 4x5 and 8x10 glass sheets?

    • @timklein185
      @timklein185  3 года назад

      You don't need them for 8x10, just don't tilt the tray too far forward when emptying. You will need them for 4x5 to keep the plates separate.

    Have you done this demonstration with a see throuh lid?

    • @timklein185
      @timklein185  4 года назад

      Sorry, don't understand the question? Or maybe I don't get the reason for the question, why use a see-through lid?

      @@timklein185 if you had a clear demo lid, we could see what is happening with the liquid and the film as you do each step. naturally the clear lid would just be for demonstraion.

    The problem I'm experiencing with 5X7 is that the hold-down tabs create channels in which the developer moves in currents, leading to uneven development.

    • @timklein185
      @timklein185  3 года назад

      How are you agitating?

      @@timklein185 A gentle, intermittent "panning for gold" motion got me this: www.flickr.com/photos/35702178@N00/50397303811/in/dateposted/
      As you can see, there are horizontal bands of overdevelopment corresponding to the spaces between the hold-down tabs.
      I developed two sheets this weekend and only used a side-to-side motion to prevent the developer from rushing though the channels. The uneven development problem showed up in one negative but not the other. (?)

      @@Chris-wj4ze Hi, chris. I'm experiencing some similar issues with the 8x10 tray from stearmanpress and I was wondering if you have found the solution for the problem you had. In the meantime I also sent off few sample images to stearmanpress and hope they have some feedback that solves it.

      @@andrehilkens3584 Funny that you should post this...I used the tray for the first time in months last night. I don't know of a solution, unfortunately.
