I've seen mold grow on the spruce framing after complete insulation/drywall/flooring replacement 😬 some companies are better than others and will spray sealant over all the framing after dehumidifying is complete. It's easy to do and 1,000% worth doing.
I'm a flood tech.. One of the guys he's talking about. It is a massive pain in the ass dealing with the noise of the equipment we use but it is necessary. We use moisture meters as well as thermal hygrometers and use psychrometrics to determine how saturated the air in your home is and use other formula's to calculate how much dehumidification is needed as well as how many air movers are required to have the space dry within 72 hours. After 72 hours you run the risk of visible microbial growth. As annoying as we are, there are species of mold that are extremely toxic. We aim to have the place dry before that happens, disinfect the area and pressure wash it if needed a disinfect it again, dry it back out, then restore the home to pre-loss condition. Your insurance company will pay for the power we use, our services, equipment rental fees, and all other repair costs. If you have been wanting to do any updating to the home you can often ask to pay the difference between material costs of what you had/vs what you want. Also it isn't the dehumidifiers that are loud. It is the air movers (fans) that make most of the noise. There are usually three settings on them and i usually account for them being turned to low power at night and stress to the home owner that it is okay to turn them down at night as long as they remember to turn them back up in the morning or the space may not dry out in time and then the space needs to be disinfected and dried all over again and then we have to make noise even longer.
Also the reason insulation gets replaced is not only because it holds a lot of water and prevents drying but it also ruins the insulation because it makes it compact down on itself and then you end up with gaps between it and the framing. Carpet itself can be saved provided the flood is from a fresh water source like a supply line. The underlay for it holds too much moisture and bacteria and it is more crucial to save you subfloor/decking underneath it.
One of the main reasons I let my asbestos and water tickets expire and just clean çarpet and upholstery the stupidity of clients has went down so much. Nothing like fighting with people you're just trying to help.
CPVC is a plumber's worst nightmare. I used to do that sort of work, and every time I would see that a job involved old CPVC, I got a bad feeling in my gut. You have to be so fucking gentle with that stuff that it's hard to even touch it.
Neighbors on either side of me had busted pipes and an apartment complex down the street from me burnt to the ground from someone using a propane heater inside, we were not fucking prepared for this weather. The only reason we didn’t have burst pipes was because my parents are from the north and knew what to do.
I do insurance reconstruction for a living and there no reason for 12 dehumidifiersin his basement unless he lives a decent sized mansion one unit is good for about 1200 square feet and usually is accompanied by 3 to 4 fans to get the air circulating
I understand woody completely, I'd rather run a grinder all day with no ear pro, than listen to a transformer based mig welder with a constant fan sit idling for an hour 😄 I dont care if I just ran it over duty cycle for twice the maximum time, that switch is getting flipped off in 5 minutes or less 😄
tbh I run a grinder without ear pro all day when I'm just using cable brushes. New grinders are pretty damn quiet, I typically hate Makita but theirs is like a sewing machine.
@@Patrick.Weightman I've only run the older "classic" 5" rat-tail makitas, currently running mostly dewalt which are hit or miss noise wise depending on model, my cordless 60v dewalt is damn near whisper quiet when running a brush... sadly thier brushed A/C versions aren't so silent, still not the worst until the gears start getting worn out, I picked up a new 13 amp Bosch 5" and my harborfreight "Hercules" 6" grinder is 2x as quiet 😆 only had it for maybe 4 months but it's my go to for running 6" cut-off wheels now, even the "Hercules" 6" cut-off wheels are pretty impressive at 1/3 the cost of Dewalt or Norton discs 👍 still no where close to pferd though, but neither is the cost 😉

@@hfulhorst that's not from dripping, that's from turning your water on after your pipes are already fucked and the water is flowing slowly and freezing before it drains. if you properly drip your faucets, your pipes won't burst, especially not with the temps they are seeing
go to somewhere with harsh winter weather and strict regulations and you will find well-built homes. Texas is about the opposite of that, the whole reason they are in this mess is because politicians refused to regulate the state's powergrid, even though they had months of warning from grid engineers and meteorologists. Houses in Texas are also cheap as hell, and without strict regulations comes some of the most janky, ghetto-rigged bullshit you will ever find. Texas home-owners are a different breed

Could be worse... Last summer my septic backed up into the basement and we had about an inch of shit water down there.
Yummy
I would have simply passed away instead of deal with that.

I agree. I bet the air in his basement is fucked right now.
Dehumidifiers are kinda crazy when you think about them
My neighbors had their pipes burst while on vacation - two hole weeks they were gone. They dropped that house like a hot rock.
What a subtle way for woody to let everyone know that he has a welder
And we're live
Been there, not fun. Had to have the entire kitchen ceiling replaced
Did Taylor say his ex girlfriend?
his fiancé is not his girlfriend anymore, therefore she is ex-girlfriend
That’s a reference to a joke Kyle made in an earlier PKA. Cause she’s his fiancé and not his girlfriend.
@@samhicks9462 oh good, I was actually kinda upset since I knew they had gotten engaged and I thought they broke up when he said ex.

Seal the drywall with a gloss paint then paint over it

Im pretty sure it froze those too. Theres pics of ice columns from the faucet to the bottom of the sink, implying they tried that and it didnt work.
