      How is Henrietta Lacks relevant? She is hardly responsible for the accident of biology that enabled all of this research. The people who should be remembered and praised are the scientists who were behind the experiments and the collection of her cells. Also, there is no question of ethics here. Basic utilitarian principles state that consent of the few doesn't matter if you are helping the majority. In this case, you are comparing the minor interest of a single person to the major interest of the global human population.

    • @Rebeccal450
      @Rebeccal450 7 лет назад +63

      The Truthful Channel Have you read the book? Henrietta's cells were taken from her without consent (and the family's lack of information) and they did so to many other people in public hospitals in the 1950s. Even if Henrietta signed a consent form she still may not have fully understood what she was allowing because of her lack of education. They did not know that her cells would continuously grow like they did, so doctors were unaware that they would help the majority through violating her privacy. It is still relevant pertaining to access to healthcare for poorer individuals and the rights that people are entitled to when their biological materials are taken from them.

    • @thetruthfulchannel6348
      @thetruthfulchannel6348 7 лет назад +2

      Rebecca Lustig, how was she harmed? In order to have a case, a person needs to have standing. There is no standing without harm. Also, there is no such thing as "the rights that people are entitled to when their biological materials are taken from them." If you believe in inherent rights, you should read Jeremy Bentham's critique of the declaration of independence.

    • @sparklemotion1018
      @sparklemotion1018 7 лет назад +1

      +now I'm here Yes, it's true that people whose jobs depend on their looks (including actors and models) take whatever reasonable steps they can afford to ensure that they age more slowly than they otherwise would. In person, in natural light, Renee Elise Goldsberry looks like she's in her mid to very late 30s (anywhere from 36 or 37 to 40 years old). She looks younger than other (non-actor) 46 year olds, but when she appears with the other Schuyler Sisters (Pippa and Jazzy, both in their late 20s) there is zero confusion re: which sister is the eldest.

My personal belief is that they would not have lasted long because Todd was too much of a "loose cannon, fly by the seat his pants, making bad choices" kind of guy for Evangeline who was the DA. But as long as it was an amicable breakup and they remained GOOD friends, I would've been ok.
      It was OLTL's loss. My girl has had much success since leaving.

      @@CDG1228 JoVan was top tier. Its just gnatalie (she was a gnat) was always childish, petty, jealous and guilt tripping John to be with her.
      I liked CraVe. Chris was there for her. He brought out a different side in Evangeline.
      Tangie was cute but Blair was like another gnat and I think Todd was just still in love with her too. Plus Todd was a narcissist.
