There is a concept in writing that you have to "Kill your darlings." It means that, no matter how intrinsically good an individual phrase, song, chapter, character or idea is or HOW HARD YOU WORKED ON IT, if it doesn't integrate into the whole or impedes the flow, it has to go. This is a very clever song but it impedes the emotional flow from Alexander's choice in "Eye of a Hurricane" to Eliza's reaction in "Burn." The same goes for the whole "Sit DOWN John!" rap and the characters of John Adams and Ben Franklin. Other examples: In "Aladdin" the song "Proud of Your Boy" and the character of Aladdin's mother, in the "Lord of the Rings" movies, the Death of Sauron and the Scouring of the Shire. Other examples from "Hamilton," Lin set up the whole "Not gonna throw away my shot!" from the beginning of the first act, but when he finally got to the moment of the duel, he cut the line "Now I HAVE to throw away my shot," because, let's face it, it was hackneyed and obvious. He instead plunged into the intensity of Hamilton's racing mind in his last moments. The result is brilliant.

Hannah Rose a part did of Congratulations did appear in the play during the Reynolds Pamphlet but the rest of it was scrapped by Lin for the audience wanted to see Eliza's much faster
I love the song, and anything Renee, but i can see why it was cut. It kinda competes with "Burn" for viewers' attention as the high emotional point in the aftermath of The Affair. And you can not cut "Burn". "Congratulations" does nothing for the rest of the story by itself. And as much as i love a good roasting, "Burn" does that job quite sufficiently and more subtly. Again, i love the song, but if you are creating a masterpiece, don't think, what you can add to it, think, what you can cut from it.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! This made me so happy. I straight up fangirled (consisting of everything from arm-flailing, screaming, laughter to tears) for like 6 and a half minutes until she asked us to sing along. Then I was sitting here in my room shouting at my screen. This is the best thing ever. I'm so sad she's leaving the show. I don't know why I see all the Hamilton stuff 1 week late, but it doesn't matter. My life is now complete.
Fascinating to hear this number. Renee extraordinary as always, and it's a good song...but Lin was absolutely right to cut this. It overstates what is made so clear with just the brief exchange that remains in the show. It also sounds out of character for her to call Alexander stupid (even though it echoes "Aaron Burr, Sir" ). It reiterates information we already have. And it would have broken up the incredible momentum of "The Reynolds Pamphlet" which is so needed at this point in the show. I love getting this glimpse into the process. I love that Lin has such a perceptive eye for what shouldn't be kept as well as what should. All writers know that half your stuff goes into the trash can. Even if it sounds pretty good, it might not be good for the project. Maybe a life somewhere else, maybe it just served its purpose by being part of the thought process. Good to honor that knowledge. Thanks, Lin, for sharing this with us and for bringing Ham4Ham to life. Thanks, Rory, for picking up the ball with grace.And thanks again to Howard Sherman for faithfully recording it. It's been a real joy to watch, right up to the end (for now).
Beg to disagree, I think he should have kept the song in mainly as it is one of the few times we get to see Angelica's point of view in the show and it's the last time in the show she really 'speaks for herself' as it were instead of speaking on behalf of the chorus (as she does in 'it's quiet uptown' and the finale. Also it provides needed insight into what's actually been going on in Angelica's life since the war ended. This, the Dear Theodosia reprise, and the extended Schuyler defeated should have all been kept in, in my opinion.

Parts of this song were only added to the last version of the Reynolds Pamphlet after he decided to cut this song i'm pretty sure. I'm so mad it's not her in the Hamilton mixtape. The girl singing in her place is good, but she doesn't have the same professional sound and lacks the grit in the line "blessed with the best wife," which was crucial to the emotion Renée demonstrates.
Emmy Ma Bruh. I already know that. It was just bothering me because the mixtape version is the only one on Spotify, which is more convenient for me. I've actually grown used to the mixtape version though and enjoy it.

There is a concept in writing that you have to "Kill your darlings." It means that, no matter how intrinsically good an individual phrase, song, chapter, character or idea is or HOW HARD YOU WORKED ON IT, if it doesn't integrate into the whole or impedes the flow, it has to go. This is a very clever song but it impedes the emotional flow from Alexander's choice in "Eye of a Hurricane" to Eliza's reaction in "Burn." The same goes for the whole "Sit DOWN John!" rap and the characters of John Adams and Ben Franklin. Other examples: In "Aladdin" the song "Proud of Your Boy" and the character of Aladdin's mother, in the "Lord of the Rings" movies, the Death of Sauron and the Scouring of the Shire. Other examples from "Hamilton," Lin set up the whole "Not gonna throw away my shot!" from the beginning of the first act, but when he finally got to the moment of the duel, he cut the line "Now I HAVE to throw away my shot," because, let's face it, it was hackneyed and obvious. He instead plunged into the intensity of Hamilton's racing mind in his last moments. The result is brilliant.

I love the song, and anything Renee, but i can see why it was cut. It kinda competes with "Burn" for viewers' attention as the high emotional point in the aftermath of The Affair. And you can not cut "Burn". "Congratulations" does nothing for the rest of the story by itself. And as much as i love a good roasting, "Burn" does that job quite sufficiently and more subtly.
Again, i love the song, but if you are creating a masterpiece, don't think, what you can add to it, think, what you can cut from it.

Fascinating to hear this number. Renee extraordinary as always, and it's a good song...but Lin was absolutely right to cut this. It overstates what is made so clear with just the brief exchange that remains in the show. It also sounds out of character for her to call Alexander stupid (even though it echoes "Aaron Burr, Sir" ). It reiterates information we already have. And it would have broken up the incredible momentum of "The Reynolds Pamphlet" which is so needed at this point in the show. I love getting this glimpse into the process. I love that Lin has such a perceptive eye for what shouldn't be kept as well as what should. All writers know that half your stuff goes into the trash can. Even if it sounds pretty good, it might not be good for the project. Maybe a life somewhere else, maybe it just served its purpose by being part of the thought process. Good to honor that knowledge. Thanks, Lin, for sharing this with us and for bringing Ham4Ham to life. Thanks, Rory, for picking up the ball with grace.And thanks again to Howard Sherman for faithfully recording it. It's been a real joy to watch, right up to the end (for now).

Beg to disagree, I think he should have kept the song in mainly as it is one of the few times we get to see Angelica's point of view in the show and it's the last time in the show she really 'speaks for herself' as it were instead of speaking on behalf of the chorus (as she does in 'it's quiet uptown' and the finale. Also it provides needed insight into what's actually been going on in Angelica's life since the war ended. This, the Dear Theodosia reprise, and the extended Schuyler defeated should have all been kept in, in my opinion.
Martha Southgate I do understand why he chose to cut it, but I hope that when the show is inevitably adapted for TV he reworks things a little bit to put it back in.

Parts of this song were only added to the last version of the Reynolds Pamphlet after he decided to cut this song i'm pretty sure. I think Angelica showing up to roast Alexander and show her love for her sister would have been awesome in the show. I do see where you are coming from though.
