Just shows you catch and release works. We have had the same thing with pike we figured out we caught the same fish 4 times and it was both mine and my dad's pb at the time.
i've seen the same with pike aswel, while fishing a smallish loch in the highlands my pal landed and returned a 14lb pike which had a very strange two tone colour to it, a dark head end and lighter body from the back of the gills, after a good fight it swam away strongly, a couple of hours later an asian holiday maker showed up in his camper van and started spinning, within minutes he caught the two tone fish again, unfortuneately he chapped her and drove away with it in his camper!
@@scottishoutdoorlife no way of knowing unless we start tagging fish. Wonder how long it will be until someone catches one of the salmon that have been tagged as smolts to see their path to the feeding grounds.
Yes very strange, I've not heard of one caught twice before. Always thought it happened but this one was so distinguishable it had to be the same one. Thanks again for watching 👍
great night on the river! i wonder if that fish is blind in that off side eye? i caught a big smallmouth bass once that was odd coloured like that and he was missing his dark side eye
Hi thanks for watching, I did have a good look at it and couldn't see anything wrong with the eye. it was very strange, I did wonder if it had something to do with the higher water temperatures we'd experienced but strange it was just a quarter of the fish affected. 👍
Hi Yes tried it but over the years found more success in general with swinging it steady, on the Tay anyway, not neccessarily on other rivers. thanks for watching. 👍
@@scottishoutdoorlife Two very good points... Salmon flies often fished too slowly, but then again no two rivers fish the same. Basically, salmon fishing has so many variables it´s like playing a fruit machine.
Hi James thanks for watching. It looked pretty much the same my dad said when he saw the photos. If anything it would weigh slightly less I think as they use energy to start changing to prepare for spawning. 👍
@@scottishoutdoorlife Mine always get bigger as time passes and the more I think about them... They can end up huge given enough time and day dreaming.
Fish looks strong but I'd say its diseased that's why it s being caught twice they tend to take easier I'd say that fish will die before spawning only chance is spawn early and easy run to spawning grounds
Hi thanks for watching. Could be disease, it didn’t look like it to me, just a slight difference in colour. It may well develop into something. Have you come across the same thing before?
Very unusual fish
Very unusual of you to let the world gaze upon your flies for so long😂🤣
Great video Iain!!
Strange fish Stuart. You need a proper close up for all the secret bits on the fly. 🤣👍
Very enjoyable video Iain. Just let’s you see perceiving pays off. I haven’t seen a fish coloured like that but it was lively enough anyway
Hi Andrew thanks for watching again. Yes a great night it had to come good eventually. It fought very well for its size.👍

Shame she was chapped. Different culture of eating what you catch from different countries. Decimating pike fishing in the highlands unfortunately.
It certainly does Toby. I wonder what percentage are caught more than once, it would be interesting to know. 4 times that's amazing 👍
That's a shame John. Not sure what caused the markings but very interesting to see it.

That’s great to see fish taken few times.. well done 🎣

Nice day out , another reason to go fish tomorrow 🎣. Until then 🥃
Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed it. 👍
Have you ever tried speeding up the flys swing? figure of 8ting? i found i got better takes that way that stuck...

I think if we could figure it out we'd be billionaires 🤣
The question is: How much did it weigh when your Dad caught it, and how much did it weigh when you caught it? Had it put on weight in the river? 😀

Thanks 👍
maybe the start of a fungal growth?
Maybe Craig, not seen any on the Tay yet but it was very warm and low before this was taken. Thanks for watching 👍
@@scottishoutdoorlife Yes, if it´s hanging around long enough to be caught twice could start growing moss.
