  • This review takes an in-depth look at the new for June 2024 Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class set! I think Lego is moving in the right direction with this concept! Its fun, refreshing and includes some new elements! If, of course, you can swallow the price!

I really like how this potions class set turned out, although it reminds me a lot of that Hogwarts Moments: Potions Class set from 2021. It has some very cool accessories and closing it up makes it look like a classroom scaled-down to the side of LEGO. Price-wise, I think this set should've been $30, because I think it looks a bit too small for a $40 set. I was also expecting this set to have some rocky exterior to go next to the Great Hall instead of placing it underneath the Great Hall. While three of the minifigures are mostly using reused parts, I'm glad that we got a really detailed version of Professor Snape with arm-printing. Overall, for those who have did not get a Harry Potter set depicting the potions classroom before, I recommend getting this one when it is on sale.

6:00 This is the first time I've seen that the front can be opened up while it's placed in the other set. That's a great design detail, especially for those complaining about the interior being hidden when the set is placed in the dungeon. As for the under-detailed Hufflepuff Room, I'm going to see if I can reuse the parts from the Hufflepuff banner to build up the walls.

This set is certainly way more detailed than either build in the Great Hall set, to the point it makes them look bad in comparison. Should they've made Great Hall come with just the space for rooms and sell the rooms separately? A more detailed bathroom with a troll would've been better and would sell well, too. Another issue is if you get this set you'll end up with 3 builds but can only display 2 of them at a time. What are you supposed to do with the last one, display it separately elsewhere? And I wonder if it's a one-off or Lego will apply the same "expansion" approach to the future sets of the castle system.

Only time will tell but I like the way they’re going with this one. The detail is incredible in comparison. I can’t foresee how Lego will do the other common rooms since hufflepuffs is so plain. If they release another one individually then they’ll have to add more detail or I suppose they could do another large castle section and include several sparse builds like the great hall.
