    I'm in lockdown in Melbourne so after watching this video and the other wedge fitting video, I was bored and ordered them in 50/07, bent to 55/13, 60/06 same as my old wedge specs that I've been gaming the callaway x series jaws in slate finish for 10 yrs and had 3 new sets of them. Had to let go and move onto the Mizuno T20 wedges that outclass them. The satin finish looks so good that I'm going to hate to hit them out bunkers. The shiney forged finish is amazing and the extra 4 tape wraps finish it off. Cant wait for the JPX 921 forged or JPX 921 HMP fitting.

      I think you can get pretty close with wedges indoors but few have the luxury or opportunity to do wedge fittings on real greens. Sucks but that's reality for 99% of players.

    Something to note, which Ian probably corrected, but the Mizuno T-20 shaft length is considerably longer in the lob wedges and becomes similar in the gap wedges. (when compared to Callaway). This was immediately evident to me because Im taller and enjoy the Mizuno stock length in the lob. Callaway a bit short in the lob. The difference is 1/4" to 3/8".

    Many years ago...20?, I went to a golf school run by Paul Thomas aka PT, Justin Thomas’s grandpa. He’s pretty old school about short game shots, with everything from a 6 iron to lob wedge in play. He liked the way you developed creativity and touch using lower lofted irons. The funny thing though, the pros who worked for him were wedge only guys from the Phil Mickelson school. The number of wedges those guys hit during their own practice was astounding..they’d go through those giant range buckets hitting shots just like Matt. My back hurts when I think about it. PT is retired and happy, enjoying non stop Golf Channel and Justin’s success.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 4 года назад

      I've gone from a 10 handicap to near scratch in the last 18 months and 90% of the improvement has come from a decision to almost entirely refocus my practice time to pitching the ball from 10 to 50 yards. Before I was 90% range time and 10% pitching & chipping, now it is 70% pitching and 30% (Driver, 6 iron, Gap wedge for specific distances (120, 100, 80)). The focus on pitching starts to focus your awareness of all the different types of lies you can have, the amount of grass around the ball, the direction the grass is growing and then through trial and error of technique and club gives to goto shots and clubs for the 100s of different types of shots required that you would only in the past have guessed at without having practiced 100s of times each. Once you have 50 to 100,000 practice pitches under your belt do you only then appreciate that there is more complexity to pitching in and of itself than the rest of the golf game put together. Have a goto Drive off the tee (likely a fade), work on your 6 iron mechanics so you know what you do and how to fix it when it goes wrong, have very specific distances (120, 100, 80, 60) that you can hit consistently, and then focus all the rest of your time on learning how to pitch from every kind of lie imaginable with your 56 & 60 (or similar). I resisted doing this for years because it was fun to hit buckets of balls - now I realize I was an idiot and I missed learning what is required to break Par a long time ago.

    These wedges are an underdog for me. Vokeys always give a meh feeling but performed well. 'Consistent' spin is more important than having the 'most' spin, at least for me. I can always count on these going the yardage I expect. Hopefully this video keeps people from ignoring the T20 wedges, especially considering they cost less with a top notch shaft to boot.

    Same here as me, I love the shaping of the lower lofted clubs, blends with my MP20's beautifully.
    I just have to get them worked on becuase I didn't actually get fitted for them and they accidentally came with the same shaft in my irons which wasn't actually what was specced for me (just left it because I thought I'd give it a try).

    Guys, distance is not a problem for you. Iron lofts have got stronger including wedges, have you thought about sacrificing a long club and altering your gapping to enable you to play more wedges ie PW at say 46 degrees, a 52, a 58 with plenty of bounce and a 64.....and then using the Dave Pelz system of 3 swing lengths to generate 12 reproducible wedge distances...?

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 4 года назад

      Matt uses the traditional lofted Titleist T100 irons - the PW is 46 degrees - it was the first club he hit to start the gapping session at 140 yards. Ian then fit for 50, 55 & 61 to hit Matt's yardage numbers - so he does have 4 wedges. Matt used 46/50/54/58 last year but wants more loft and flexibility for shorter distances - thus 46/50/55/61 this year.

At least you mixed up the turf, but I want to try in bunkers, deep rough, open face, watch the trajectory, watch the spin. GCQuad is great for making RUclips content, but surely you would wanna get fit on course?

    My issue is that day to day I'm a different golfer. I have a 3 tier chipping net, and with my current 61 degree, some days I can't miss a shot, and others I can't make a shot. I can change my swing on a whim to try and make a change rather than trying 100 wedges and going with the best one on that day.

    Great content as ever. Great to see the Mizuno’s featuring in the wedges as a lot of content makers don’t seem to deviate from Vokey’s. (Which are obv good clubs too)
    I have S18s, fitted aboot 18 months ago so need to consider a new fit for the T20 or maybe the RTx4 which really suit my eye.

      I just picked up an Cleveland RTX 4 50° and I'm considering getting the 54° and 58°. The black looks really nice and they're like $95.

    Awesome stuff. Any reason in particular you didn’t test the 50/55 bounces between hard/soft turf?

    My next house is going to be a golf fitting centre with a kitchenette and bed sitter. Oh, shower and dunny as well. My perfect home.

    TXG if we were to come up for a wedge fitting. could you combine an indoor and then and outdoor fitting?? Myself would love to get some out in the rough, sand, etc.. This is where i am having a horrendous time trusting a wedge "fitting" when we cant even take the wedges where they belong..
