Balkans Population Projected To Significantly Decrease by 2050

  • Greece could become the world's first country to suffer from population collapse. Its fertility rate is one of the lowest in Europe with some villages not recording a single birth in years. As much of the continent struggles with tumbling birthrates, Greece is a stark example of how hard it will be to reverse the trend. The latest numbers on the country's demographics show the population decline has reached alarming levels.
    Across The Balkans, hosted by Nafisa Latic, is TRT World’s programme that focuses specifically on the issues and fault lines shaping Southeast Europe today.

    This is a global phenomena. Human population is stabilizing after a massive growth spurt from the 1600's to 2000's. We'll still have 2 billion more by 2100.

    • @SimonTmte
      @SimonTmte День назад +2

      2 billion more by 2100 won't happen, UN projected peak 10.4 by 2086, but it's very mistaken and they'd come with a new revision in a couple of weeks that will probably decrease that to around 9,7, but also that will be way to optimistic, they tend to look at current rates and scale the fertility numbers straight up from there, problem in any sense is you wouldn't isolate the number to region, who cares how many are born in Nigeria if there's no births in Germany, and median age is of greater importance, in previous decades you had a median age of 25-30, now it's almost 50 some places, even if you'd stabilize births at 2.1 in varying European nations from today you'd still have a 30%+ population decline within 2-3 decades, if you want a functional system in Greece you can't look at birth numbers in Niger to say whether Greece has a problem in the future

      In a word; 'neoliberalism' - we in the west live in a neoliberal paradigm of 'market based' thinking & culture, whereas the developing world lives more in a paradigm of survival - standards of living are higher here and that is what we're used to, we see that & want that life for ourselves (and our children someday), and the society presses us into this mold also by demanding we get formal educations and commit to the 'rat race' and become productive members of the work force - without a steady supply of new people ready and willing to play this game our own economy is in danger of not being sufficiently competitive (& therefore in danger of collapse, unless we can leverage something else like resource wealth)

      Western culture has changed. Women wanna work and have a career BEFORE they start a family. Personally I'm OK with that, I'm just saying there you have one reason for what's happening. I can’t help but wonder if the issue isn’t so much about money, but priorities. People are not willing to part with their lavish lifestyles, and think they require more things than they actually do in order to raise children, so it all becomes so much more expensive than necessary. That, and bringing women into the workforce drove prices up, to the point that most women HAVE to work now, and cannot stay home to start a family like they would like. It didn’t need to be that way. The truth is, they weren’t willing to trade luxury and career for children, and so they don’t have any. And they will face the consequences for it. We all will. 😔🙏

      Women should be free to work if they want to, and leveraging half your population is enormously powerful - we can make that work to account for the introduced problems you are alluding to, however there are other problems created by our hyper competitive pro-Capitalist culture (neoliberalism) and those problems it appears no one seems interested in tackling or even talking about most of the time (unless you go hang out with radical Marxists).. Which is a problem because those far-left communities are basically communal nowadays, pushed so far into the margins that if they ever do have anything interesting to say almost no one else hears it

    • @ChristineFisher123
      @ChristineFisher123 2 дня назад

      I am just wondering if it is the changing economy and the rise of service industries that forced women into the workplace. That and also the two world wars of the 20th century. Other reasons may be that men's wages started to decline; heavy industries collapsed and the rise of part-time working all favored women's entrance into the workforce.
      It means that both parents are expected to work nowadays, which leaves less room to bring up large families.

    only the net-fertility-rate is important. It means women per women in the next generation. In Austria this net-fertility-rate counts now
    to 0,6-0,7. In concrete the 4,5 million women today will be followed by 3-3,5 million women in the next generation (around 2050), and so on.
    And this is a formal analytic prognosis. Some scientists are telling that a causal-analytic model will show much worst result. The inflation and the exorbitant high costs for the children are the main reason. Both parents have to work, to have a chance for covering the cost of one child. And what is with 2 or 3? Who can finance these today? The parents are working 25-27 years long only for the child rising and education for secure that the next generation will be able to earn a decent life for his/her own.

      Hold on to your Muslim heritage and things will fix themselves. Support from Pakistan for Kosovo. Hope you guys don't fall in the European secular trap. Most countries across the world are becoming more and more Islamic and record number are converting to Islam. We have already diagnosed the disease, its not the economic situation of the country that determines its birth rates but its feminism and secularism in general. Keep away from the prescription of this Ideology and Reclaim your Islamic heritage and all will be well.
