The original ending is much better as it is less cheesy - just one quick esplosion and that's it. Here, they were about to blow up the whole planet (the exaggeration typical of modern productions). Not to mention the note - in the original movie is taped to the windshield so that the guy can read it as soon as he sits in the car before the explosion. Here, the note is folded on the passenger seat, and the guy CONVENIENTLY reads it just before the explosion, but he might as well not have seen the note or thought it was something he was supposed to read. There's a reason if classic movies beat remakes (most times).
Watching this ending and the ending of the 1972 film, the writers and producers basically admitted killing off Charles Bronson's Bishop was a mistake. We (the movie audience) could have seen a series of Mechanic films with Bronson throughout the 1970s and 80s - and not just his Death Wish series.
The really sad thing about this movie is the destruction of a perfect XK-E. And given that this is a re-make, that's to of them. Unless this was CGI (It wasn't) this s sacrilege.

It was really nice of him to time the explosion just perfectly enough for him to read the note.
It made perfect sense in the original movie, in this shit remake things just magically work out for plot convenience.
