I'm going to try your recipe the next time I mix concrete. I'm going to be doing a foundation for a shed addition. I've learned a lot watching your channel.
I love using the torx construction screws. They don't slip, they are strong with a good sheer and tensile strength (not as good as nail, but for a lot of odds and ends, perfect. And the torx prevents stripping like a Phillips would after a few uses, so great to reuse over and over.

Great job Dave and the Chef. Loved Eric's restaurant apron 😂💕👍 And loved hearing about you saving your screws. I just was reusing some old ones today to build a new fence gate 😆👍

Nice Job as usual man. I'm a viewer from Argentina, I came across your channel at random and I've been following your vids for a while. It's really funny cos I know crap about manual labour or concrete, I work on IT, yet somehow I still love this videos. Don't know if its the power of creating rock-like structures, a combo of my ocd and the perfectionist/completionist in me or what but something about this videos keeps me coming back. You oughta see my GF expresion when I tell here there is a new Odell Complete Concrete video up XD. Anyways, keep the coming, great work!
This is the exact video I've been looking for! I am about to do this for my existing 3 car garage. The sill plate is completely rotted out of it. The builder poured a 42x28 ft slab for a 35x24ft building.
Thanks for your love and knowledge .. please keep videos coming .. it would be awesome if you can do a video on your different experiences with permits and inspections ! Everyone has stories about that and I bet yours would be up there in the greats ! Wishes Matt
Important step. I had to replace a rotten sill plate on a retrofit over a slab where they never bothered to add a curb like you just did. The sill plate was pressure treated and still crumbled like feta cheese.
Probbaly wrong waterproofing usually sill plates are on edge of concrete for homes. Stucco, flashing , screed , etc diverts any water vapor away and blow the pressure plate
A neighbor enjoying the stem wall pour played this appropriate tune on his hi-fi..James Brown's..'Papa Don't Take No Mess'..an' folk was dancin' while watchin;..
Thank you for posting. I've been curious about how the industry retrofits an existing slab for a structure without removing the slab and starting all over.
I wonder if it is possible to lay a new slab over an old slab using similar framing, gluing, and reinforcement techniques as seen in this video. My old slab has some vegetation overtaking the center where the relief cuts exist. Old slab is 4 inches thick and in pretty good shape. Just need to add another 2-3 inches to prepare it for a workshop building.
Absolutely love your videos! How do yall smooth out the spot by the bolts? It looked like your trowel was stopping right at the bolt. Just recently ran into this issue during framing. We had to chip out excess concrete around all the anchor bolts. Thanks in advance! Keep up the great work! Y'all are awesome
Love that you reuse a lot of the framework hardware. How much of the would are you able to reuse by chance, if any? HVAC tradesman and all my concrete knowledge comes from you lol. Keep it up
I’m thinking about having a tuffshed installed on an existing slab. The slab is larger than the shed will be. I think tuffsheds come with galvanized steel joists and may not need to be raised. Not sure if that’s correct though.
What would you consider to be the thinnest layer of concrete you would add to an existing slab? I would like to add 2” thick and 2.5” wide of concrete for the sill plate to sit on.
I am interested in this because i have an existing shed that was built on a slab with expansion cuts and no curb. The bottom plates of the shed are rotting out from water ingress. Now i have to jack up the shed and try this... in doing this, do you still get water ingress at the cuts in the slab?
My mother in law is gonna have me work on a tiny concrete project, "7 inch step" for platform or porch access, the existing one is at an inconvenient location. I feel like I have it figured out, however the existing step has thin slabs of design rock to give it a nice appearance, and well knowing my mother law she ain't gonna be happy with a regular gray concrete step, any advice on how to add design rock to it would help thanks!
Do you know what kind of shed door is going to be used where that 8’ return is? Wondering how that door will prevent water intrusion. I want a slab done on existing concrete for a shed as well but like the idea in this video if I can get my head around the type of door to make that work.
Garage door installed was an Amarr 7/1/2'. the bottom seal is adequate and the concrete driveway sloped away from the opening. Water intrusion has not occurred in since the shed was completed. Where the door seals to the curb ends at the bottom aluminum was used to be flush with the the wood furring strips on the door opening to engage the side seals and eliminate any wood contact with the ground.
How much does something like this cost and how do you deal with a small slope? I have a huge driveway but I want to build a garage on it and where I want to build it on my driveway has a small difference in the skope grade. Top to bottom where I want it is about 2 inches different from back to front. How do you fix this so the garage can be built level?
Already gave the like and haven’t even watched the video yet - that’s how good these guys are 😂 Also, why didn’t you go monolithic on this? Home owner’s idea?
14:14 I appreciate the detail in the clean up, I expected you to just sweep the chips into the gravel right next to the shed but you collected them and threw them out. I'm curious why the shed wasn't backed closer to the property edge though? Seems like a bit of wasted space behind the shed, maybe he'll build a lean-to roof to make a covered area though.
Thanks for making this video. This is exactly what I was looking for to add a stem all inside of a garage for a laundry room. Question, do you ever use Dobie blocks or rebar chairs? Also, if the existing concrete is sloped, would you just rip a board so the stem wall is level? Just curious. Thanks!
I tried to do this with a 10’ section on an existing slab, and didnt get any adhesion at all, despite using the same bonding agent. Any ideas what I did wrong?
looks great and very interesting, I'm going to build a shed on a concrete base (yet to be poured) in the summer, do you have a video where you show how to pour the slab with the curb (6 * 6) at the same time/pour? Great learning. Seán from Dingle, Ireland
Quick question. The concrete under my patio has about 3 inch spaces in between the concrete squares roughly 4x5 squares atleast 3x3 each square. They're still good. Just don't like the look with the big spaces, is there anyway I can fill them with concrete and make it look like the slab your working on? Or should I just demo it and get it re done. Bought house with it already.
Thats perfection right there! Love the channel been watching it for years! I've always been kind of stumped on the amount of water to use in a mixer like this. Seems that even when I use the "max" allowed water as stated on the bag, its too dry. Maybe I'm not letting it mix long enough? Also was that "T" bar a custom made tool? I was jabbing a piece of metal angle to break up the clumps. Thanks for all the tips and tricks.
