Lighting is way more dramatic in the original, the acting better and feels more tense. The remake just seems too polished and the actors too clean looking as if they’ve just walked out of Hot Topic. The CGI Arnold is impressive though.
I think the top thing that takes me out of the new one is that you can obviously tell it's dubbed by modern Arnold especially with the weird audio positioning. Not that there would be a better option (using the original audio would be even weirder) but with his aged voice dubbing a much younger version of himself, I think it was kind of doomed from the start in that regard.

Crazy Kakoos it's an alternate timeline, so there will be small and sometimes large differences. The timeline diverged when Arnold is sent back to 1975, I believe it was, in this film.

80s films usually win the "badass aggression contest" against later films. Genisys has the rating 12A. In the 80s there was no problem giving an action film an 18 rating; it just made people want to see them more.

Yup.. The new ones seem like amateurs.. But the whole film is kind of a joke in my opinion.. Its one of those that you have to keep pausing it and doing other things because your subconscious is asking you "why are you watching this mind dribble?"
the good news is james cameron will be getting the terminator rights back in 2020 and said he will continue the terminator series after t2 and will complete ignore the crap that came after like t3, salvation, and genisys.
What made the original so much more effective was that there was this unsettling, eerie tone throughout, even in scenes like this. Arnold in the original almost always had half his face cascaded in darkness, really giving him that ghoulish quality the original went for. But as others have pointed out, the the polished new age look takes away those dynamics that made the original so successful. On one hand I do appreciate how far they went to recreate the scene, but on the other hand it made me nostalgic for the original.

It’s always funny to me that after every new installment in The terminator series since T3, we always look back at the last one and say “Okay, maybe this one wasn’t so bad.”

T3 is still pretty bad because it kinda makes the time travel and the events that happened in T1 and T2 pointless, according T3 you only Delayed the inevitable, which of course also means that skynet losing is inevitable.

The irony about all these Terminator sequels is that the original movie made CLEAR that no further time traveling could be done because the humans had destroyed the technology after sending Reese through. Hence the line, "It's just him... and me."
i love the way the punk in the middle directly puts his hand in his pocket to grab his knife the moment t800 approaches them. just a small detail, but it makes the punks in the first movie seem more intimidating and real thugs, not just posers. small details like this pile up and create great movies.

They really didn't try that hard to recreate the original scene that hard. Guy with weird hair is supposed to stand in the middle, not to our (the audience's) right. Also I like what someone analyzing the original film said about the punk on the right: That he kind of resembled Kyle Reese and that the terminator killed him the most brutally. Also, that same guy was the one who stabbed the terminator, similar to how Kyle Reese places a pipe-bomb into the terminator's torso at the end of the film. Kind of in a subliminal and foreshadowing way.
LESSON NUMBER ONE: never remake something that is already a masterpiece. If you do it, YOU WILL NEVER BE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. You are wasting your time and everyone else's time. I always say if you are going to copy, YOU BETTER MAKE DAMN SURE YOU BRING SOMETHING BRILLIANT TO THE TABLE that will out do the original in every way, but I still say DON'T DO IT!

There is a difference between a reboot and a remake.
The Ten Commandments (original) was considered a masterpiece before it was remade in the 50s. The Thing from Outer Space was a very popular sci-fi film before John Carpenter remade it.

They are not remaking the old movies to make them better. They are remaking old movies to grab quick cash. And they are having pretty big sucess in that sense so they will keep on remaking the old ones as long as the cash flows.

Genisys is underrated. By far my favorite Terminator movie
Nothing did the 80's vibe better than the actual 80's.
I like the original more because of the crazy 80's look and they failed to recreate like the real 80's crazy look. But I still like the fighting in this part in Genisys even if they didn't recreate to the match original.
You'd think a big-budget movie like Genisys would at least try to mimic the same scene accurately, mannerism-for-mannerism, timing-for-timing, but the timing and pronunciation was so far off, the punks didn't even come close to performing the lines with the same delivery, it's like they did it in one take and said fuck it.
That's why because they're punks. :D
I actually liked Genisys, obviously it will never compare to T1 and T2. And I do agree I don't understand why they made such obvious differences when it wasn't necessary, but never mind. It's just a movie. As I say, I thought it was decent but T1 has always been one of my favourite movies. And T2 obviously great film.

I blame CGI, there was no Arnold in front of them. There was some green dude as Arnold and a green wall behind them. Harder to act pretending there is something/someone, real ppl and scenario is always better

When the guy said " nice night for a walk" and the Terminator repeated it back, the CPU was trying to interpret the context, but was programmed to READ- only mode, meaning the T-800 couldn't learn new phrases, slang or anything that would make the unit think more independently of Skynet directives. So the T-800 response was " give me your clothes, now!" as it was forced back into infiltrator mode. Subtle detail.
I've seen The terminator in the theater in 1985 (I'm 1968.), and I must say that Arnie is still looking terrifying now, as he was in 1985, when i was 17...
So this was the alternative timeline that pops came back to that's pretty cool 👌

That's not exactly the case. The head is CGI but they used a real actor (Brett Azar) for the chest and everything else.
As a software developer I spend most of my day using the Docker container engine, essentially a group of pretend linux instances running in a virtual machine (with linux installed) that's running on the one actual real computer in this story, my macbook pro. You could make an argument that this laptop is also at least partially computer generated though, since motherboards' circuit connections are generally routed by algorithms (with human guidance), and then created by robotics (picker placer machines). I don't think any of the new Mac lineup can punch a hole in a person yet though.
I guess we're all living in a simulation though so there is no real computer, haha

Terminator 1 scared the shit out of me as a kid. Incredible movie. T2 came out and it’s still in my top 5. Although Robert Patrick’s T-1000 was frightening, I was way more in awe of how awesome he was as a liquid alloy terminator that could shift into stabbing weapons.
Arnold's German accent is more noticeable in the Genisys version though. "Yo close, gif-dem-doo-mee. now!"

Last Saturday, when my roommates said "tomorrow is wash day", I said "Wash day tomorrow, nothing clean right?" and they just looked at me in an awkward manner, they didn't get the reference. :(
What they should've done is mix in the old footage with the new footage to make it more realistic pretty much use the old footage untill the future terminator from genesis starts shooting with the shotgun
They couldn't get the rights to the footage... but that's still no excuse for such a lame movie overall.

Here's what I really don't get about this scene...
If they can create a much younger-looking '84 version of Arnie with CGI effects, then why couldn't they do the same for those 3 original punks? They could've just had them come into the studio and REPRISE their old roles. That would've made this scene in Genisys look much more convincing/authentic and helped the flow of continuity much better!

I guess these inept filmmakers of Terminator: Genisys payed more effort into the CGI and nostalgia rather than the cast and characters.
That's just about every remake or rehash sequel
We could say the same for Dark fate.
I like the original 1984 a hundred times, they did a great job on this one👍
1984 hands down!
There is only 1 scene that lets 1984 down compared to today. The dated CGI/special effects when he rips his eye out.
Other than that, it's awesome!
Yeargh, the makeup effects in some of the '84 scenes looked a bit weird, but it still added to the overall creepiness factor tho.
People will make so many excuses for the original. He's a robot, you don't need to be a brilliant actor to play one. That's why they cast Arnold.

In this scene, it's more the acting of the three punks that's terrible. In the original, they keep alternating between smiling and frowning, showing sings of intimidation and tension. Just grinning like idiots in Genysys is amateur acting.
