- Rarely has there been a group of criminals that had as many clichées surrounding them as the Yakuza: Full-body tattoos, designer suits, sunglasses and… missing pinky fingers? The “Yubitsume” tradition, which sees a Yakuza member cut off part of (if not the whole) pinky has been a trademark look for members of the Japanese underworld for centuries. But where did it all start, WHY did it all start and how is it done? In this video, you will find out more about why Japanese gangsters are seemingly in love with handicapping themselves!

absolutely amazing video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😁
I have a suggestion for another video: For many criminal organizations, it is quite clear how they make their money. The Cartels have their Ye Yo, Al Capone had his moonshine and the Chinese Triads are big in the protection racket. But the Yakuza is far more obscure in this regard, you usually only get rumors about Pachinko (which you already kind of debunked), erotic movies and money lending.
It would be worthwhile to have an overview, to see what really is their moneymaker.
Oh that's actually a great suggestion! I'll add it to my topic list and do some research 🫡
I'd like to think they made the bulk of their money from human sex trafficking, bribes, and protection money. I haven't been to Japan, but when I went to the Philippines, there were people there warning me about the Yakuza there and the people they made dissapear.
WOOHOO NEW VIDEO ABOUT SOMETHING I ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT
Haha i hope you enjoyed it 😎
Kuze has entered the chat.
*Kuze's Theme starts playing*
I would love to hear the stories of women connected to yakuza like the wives, daughters, the mistresses and any lady in between.
That one has been on my topic list for a while actually, guess i should get around to covering that very soon! 😬
@@anikihistory are you any closer? i'm really eager for this one too 👀👀
Best quality to views ratio on the platform by a mile
That's great to hear, let's hope i can keep that ratio as the views go up 🔥
Pretty fascinating. I can imagine it made disobeying your boss feel really shameful and embarrassing too.
100%
Thank you for sharing this important piece of history with us. Is this still being precticed today in 2024? Such Honor is extremely rare in today's society
Thank you.
Thank you too!
I wonder if you can buy these wax fingers with different finger positions for "every" occasion 🤔 as a simple straight pinky might not be fit for every situation 😉
Very intriguing video btw! 💪
You might be onto something there, a new business idea 🤣
Glad you enjoyed the video! 😌
@@anikihistoryhaha yes, fancy wax fingers might be a thing
I never knew such an organization in Japan existed until my great-grandson told me about it! Hnmmm
Thankyou
They had 10 fingers anyway and wouldn't miss 1 or 2 :D
Exactly, 10 is totally overkill 😌
Yeah wasn't it to weaken their grip on a sword?
One thing that I would really like to know is what do they (yakuza) think about Christianity? And other religions.
Interesting thought! I don't know about Christianity in particular, but the Yakuza have historically been very passionate about everything that's traditionally Japanese, including Shinto and Buddhism. Their tattoos often feature symbols and figures from those two religions as well.
I will start covering Samurai history and general Japanese history at some point in the near future. Foreign religions in Japan is one of the topics i have on my list for that, maybe something to look forward to for you 😁
@@anikihistory Yeah, I do not think they would have much respect for it. Christianities, for there are more than one, are sort of "niche" religions. I will spare the Wall of Text which is the history of the attempt to promote first Catholicism, then Protestant sects, banning, blah, blah, blah, to some tolerance after Japan opened up. It was, and is, a niche.
But.
The military drew kamikaze pilots from university students oddly enough. That is a Wall of Text history/video in and of itself, but some were Christian and it is documented that a few carried Bibles with them on their flights.
Make of that what you will!
Since the Japanese Car culture is Awesome, can u cover that Topic?
I am going to guess it is so they cannot stick their pinky out to look fancy when drinking tea, let's see if I am right :P
Damn, that might be the worst part of this whole Yubitsume thing! ☕ Hahaha
THEY WERE NAILS DAWG fingernails from the prostitutes. If they had to give their fingers to every customer they wanted to keep then they would have no fingers left. That must of been a rarity .
just street thugs not yakuza family members, Real yakuza family members have strict discipline, Make a little mistake Lose a finger
