I’m a 3rd year vet student and I would really love if you did weekly lectures. So let’s say for example this week you maybe cover forelimb muscles of the dog, maybe next week cover some GI (blood supply / organs /etc). I think this would really help some vet students. Keep up the good work. Thumbs up so he sees
Just started vet school 5 weeks ago (so I'm totally still a newb), BUT I would recommend digital notes to EVERYONE. I'm a slightly older, less tech savvy student, so I was wary of giving in to the tablet craze, but I am so glad I did. I use the Notability app on my iPad where I can type, handwrite, draw (you can even record audio to synch with your notes, but we don't do lecture-style learning at my school, so that isn't a feature I've used), insert diagrams or pictures (and draw on them!), upload powerpoints, WHATEVER! And everything synchs with my iPhone and laptop so that all my notes are in all places and I can access them from whatever device I'm on. You can even print things out if you'd like a hard copy for reference. I'll stop babbling about how great the app is, but I would totally recommend taking digital notes. Everything is organized for you from the get-go, and that serves so, so well when studying for tests.
THANK YOU for admitting that you guys cram in vet school cos that made me sooo much better!! i have 8 exams coming up soon and im freaking out i think i have no choice but to cram arrghhh!!!
I'm working on my undergrad to apply to vet school. I'd love to see some pictures of your study box. Set up, categories, sample note cards... Thanks for all the great tips. I think we all have those moments of questioning our chosen path. It's so great to hear someone's perspective that had been through it and can offer encouragement.
Dr. Antin, it's funny how you mentioned the digitalization of your notes. Most vet schools now require you to have a laptop or an ipad of some sort so that you can use their slide technology to take notes that way and save them digitally. (:
Hello Evan I am a big fan here and also on animal planet along your journeys myself and my little vets to be enjoy watching and learning all that you do my little vets to be follow you closely the children do not miss a show they are loyal fans of yours and truely want to grow up to be and s all the things you do you are truely an inspiration to the kids here, to be a traveling vet has became their dreams please keep doing your shows and your utube it puts a smile on my face and in my heart to see them so so interested and so into watching you instead of gaming or cartoons I truely love it thier ages are 4, 7,10, 12,and 14 and the older ones have been interested in becoming a veterinarian since the age of our 4 year old and out of all of the ones that are doing this and having channels to subsribe to they all choose you so please keep doing what you do and keep inspiring children around the world may God's love guidance protection strength and blessings be with and upon you always and again thank you sincerely much love from all of us here in North Carolina USA...thanks for the tips of her school every little thing helps this world is such an amazing and beautiful place filled with so many awesome and amazing things to see... You are such an incredible amazing and verg handsome man a true eye pleaser indeed....I think the greatest thing about what you do is seeing the amazing places of the world of course the awesome and beautiful animals but there are the people you get to meet along the way that is along enough to always keep me excited and fully interested incredible....
Thank you for dishing on cramming being your mechanism! I am the same way. I have found I perform my best if I go to sleep at 10pm, wake up at 3am, and then cram up until my exam. It isn't the most healthy thing but honestly is tried and proven and I am glad to hear that I am not the only person that found this method useful!
Thank you for this! I’m taking an animal care program in Canada and I’ve been struggling with studying. You’re the greatest and someone I really look up to. Thank you!❤️
Hi! It may be surprising for u but I'm your viewer from Poland! (It's in Europe, so far away lol). Just know that u give me motivation in my critical not-doing-anything-moments to many, many things, from passing my matura exam (to get on veterinary studies), to even training fitness. Thank u very much! ^^
i really needed this video. i'm in the second semester of my career in Peru and i'm struggling so much due to quarantine, so it's easy to loose motivation specially in anatomy! :/ Also it's really interesting to see the different education systems around the world! Here you can start studying veterinary medicine as soon as you finish school (around the ages of 17-18) and the whole career lasts 5 years! (10 semesters) In my university the career is a combination of vet. med. and animal management :) Hope you're doing great! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
I'm exactly in the same case as yours. It feels like I'm not motivated anymore to study anatomy nor histology nor physiology. I'm in my 2nd of vet med studies
Thank you so much for your advice, suggestions, and videos. Not only are they enjoyable to watch, they help a lot for a junior undergrad in college starting to become really anxious about thinking of the future and possible vet school!
I’m still in my undergrad working on getting what I need for vet school. It would be soo awesome if you could make a video on how to get experience hours, what to expect in vet school, and your journey to getting in.
Hi Evan, I'm from South Wales in Great Britain 🇬🇧, I absolutely love it that you are the most awesome Vet ever, the way you speak and care for the animals is brilliant, can I ask you a Q! When you Travel who looks after your gorgeous Kitties for you? I'm a big Cat 🐈😻🐈⬛lover myself, love your Video's to, thank you Michelle 🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰
I agree with all the - TIPS. I even utilize this method in my professional career. I miss all my books, notes, and computerized notes too. Excellent video! #perfection
There is no way to remember that amount of data. Even 6 years of education itself is insufficient to become a good veterinarian. Because of that veterinarian specialise something and pick up a course. Science improves also. keep that in mind. Thus veterinarians must study every time to keep up with new data also.
Thanks... This will help me alot... Am in my first year and i have retaken my 1 st year cause i failed Anatomy 1 This will help me ALOT in my second yr
Thank you so much for making this Evan. I realized we have a lot in common. I go to school in Kansas and when I graduate vet school, I want to work in Tanzania for a few years, going from park to park, and maybe doing some missionary work while I'm there as well. When I get back to the states, I want to eventually open up a facility with several other vets. My focus will be to work primarily with wildlife and exotics, with some (not much) small animal. I was wondering how you made the connections that you have to work overseas and if there's any specific advice you could give me on how to get in touch with people to make those connections to make my plan possible?
I’m following you on Instagram and I have to say that what you do is amazing. You are a great vet and animals are lucky that you heal them and they are in good care in your hands. I’m graduating from high school for vet technitian and I will then get into vet school. Thank you for your tips for studying I bet it’s not easy to memorise all that. I will do my best so I can be like you one day. Keep up the good work.😊
What about surgeries in animals, do you have to study longer to be able to perform surgeries? Can all vets perform surgeries or is it like in humans that you have to be a surgeon ?
Really cool advices given Sir😯👌🏻btw I am a undergraduate high schooler, still got 1year away to be graduated , should I try to work in some local veterinarian clinic to gain my experience now or later? And how the experiences help actually ? Also if I want to have my own clinic, am I going to finish BVM first and then DVM? Are those two already enough or there are something else need to pay attention or be concerned about? Please feel free to read 🙏🏻.

Just got accepted into pre vet school at my dream university DVU. Found out I cant afford to attend the school, and didnt want to acquire the $56 000 a year in debt. So went to a different school. And they wont allow me in their pre vet program due to a low gpa of 2.8. Was told all my life I'll never be a vet I just wasnt smart enough, I'll never make it. It just took 20 years for me to finally realize everyone was right. No idea what to do with my life, because being a veterinarian is all I've ever wanted to be. Everyone says be a vet tech, but it isnt the same. It just sucks because now i don't know what to do with my life, where to start, and what's the point of going on when all your dreams have been crushed. I dont see much upside. I don't see much reason.
grades don't define you, and they won't determine your success as a vet. don't let what anyone says deter you from your dreams. i would still go for it if i were you because it seems like you're really passionate about it. i would say that if the 2.8 gpa is really holding you back, maybe consider retaking some of the classes you didn't do so well in. in my opinion, that shows your persistence and determination. don't give up, and if it helps at all i believe in you. :)
I´m a vet student of second semester and all I can say is that is what I always imagine, I like it a lot except for Histology and Celullar biology (but that´s mostly because of the teachers haha). I like a lot anatomy and my favorite subject is biostatistics and ethology (at the moment) and I don´t know yet what species should I choose, like large or small species (So if you can´t help me I would be very grateful). By the way I don´t know if you can give like reviews about cellular biology, of what you know/remember, because I really need it haha. Greetings from Mexico :)
My best advice is to get hands on experience with all the animals you'd like to consider working with and get a feel for each respective field and make a decision from there. Best of luck to you!
What undergrad course should I apply for if I want to get into a vet school after university. What is the best degree to get before getting into vet schools?
So I got a question bare with me it takes a while to get to the question. I’m a first year Vet student at upenn(just finished the anatomy final practical today woohoo). I recently started studying in a group when before I studied totally on my own. Before I was able to make pretty good grades not amazing but Bs and As. to do that however I also saw nobody because I studied on my own and didn’t even go to class because they were all recorded and going didn’t benefit me at all it was actually kind of a waste of my time and u know time is the biggest enemy for all Vet students. Since I started studying in this group I have made really great friends and all but my grades are not as stellar because it’s not the most efficient use of my time I get stuff out of it but I’m not learning as fast as I was on my own. I’m still passing fine for now but it’s with More Bs. I dont know if I should be worried about grades becoming even harder to maintain in the future if I keep Studying like this or if I should take the bullet on the grades and just skirt by with Bs and Cs for my mental well being and so I don’t get into clinics and know pretty much nobody? I’m stumped because On the one hand i know the grades don’t matter and I’m much happier studying in a group but on the other hand i dont know if doing this knowing it does negatively effect my grades a little will bite me later. What would u suggest?
Hi Dr Evan, what kind of undergrad did you do before vet school? Is there any field of major you would recommend doing in undergrad that you found helpful?
Did your vet school have tutoring sessions? Or a time where a group of students could learn from someone who understood the information already? My undergrad has those and those are super helpful, but I wasn't sure how different vet school would be for that.
I am not in vet school. I am an an education major taking an animal science class this semester. I looked up "how to study animal science" and couldn't help but open up this click bait. Good looking guy, talking nerdy with a cat. Yes!
Hi Dr. Evan Antin! I'm a first year vet student who's traveled all the way to Glasgow for veterinary school and I've been struggling to find the best study techniques for me and it doesn't help that in my school there is only one huge exam that can determine whether move onto 2nd year or not. Could you please tell me what were your study techniques (Flashcards, rewriting notes etc.) during vet school? Thank you😊
Hi, i am currently a sophomore. And going to apply for vet school after graduate. Can you give me some advises about how to find an internship with vet? Or how to get a job in vet? Thanks really much.
There's so few vet schools that you really can't go wrong. I'd try to get in-state tuition wherever you go b/c it's very expensive and the debt:income ratio is not great. Best of luck to you!
Question that I really hope you can answer! I want to be a Vet but I also have a passion for Wildlife Conservation. How do you juggle the two? Should I look into a dual DVM/Phd in Wildlife program. I'm constantly researching but there isn't enough information on how I can do both. Did you just apply to many internships that involved wildlife? As a vet now, how are you able to be so involved? I just don't see myself in a small animal clinic, I want to be where things are happening on big scale and make a difference. Please help!
You don't have to get a PhD in wildlife to work with wildlife or promote conservation. The animal world is a small one and a big part of following your heart for working with wildlife will be to make connections with people helping wildlife. You can do this as a DVM alone. However, if you want to get a PhD that certainly won't hurt, lol! Good luck!!
In my Vet Assistant/Technician classes, our instructor helped us memorize cranial nerves by the phrase, "Oh Oh Oh, To Touch And Feel Very Gross Vomit Around Here." 😅🤮
I’m a 3rd year vet student and I would really love if you did weekly lectures. So let’s say for example this week you maybe cover forelimb muscles of the dog, maybe next week cover some GI (blood supply / organs /etc). I think this would really help some vet students. I had no idea Jesus wanted to be a vet
But Jesus, you created all these animals. You understand them better than even the best veterinarian.
Could you possibly provide the categories you used to label your dividers on your box??
omg yes
You look like clark kent

I am going to do the BOX full of notes! I loved the idea!
I,Love you and animals keep up the good work God bless you and the animals.
Do you remember everything you learned in vet school/ is it required to remember everything?
No, I have asked veterinarians before and they still keep text books or look up things. Hope this helps..
There is no way to remember that amount of data. Even 6 years of education itself is insufficient to become a good veterinarian. Because of that veterinarian specialise something and pick up a course. Science improves also. keep that in mind. Thus veterinarians must study every time to keep up with new data also.
in every medical career, you'll never remember every single thing, you always have to review and medicine is constantly changing
Just by the way, Dr Antin in saying 'special sentences' is referring to the use of metonym.
Thank you for your tips Dr. Antin this is very helpful:) even though i am in.school to become a.vet tech this will come.in handy

Please please please share your notes.

Other than your college, what college would you suggest for vet school?
There's so few vet schools that you really can't go wrong. I'd try to get in-state tuition wherever you go b/c it's very expensive and the debt:income ratio is not great. Best of luck to you!
Oh Once One Takes The Anatomy Final Very Good Vacations Are Heavenly
Yasss! Thank you lol :)
In med school ours was: “On Old Olympus’ Towering Tops A Finn and German Viewed Some Hops”! 😃
Good luck!!
The cat!
I love a man lets his cat nurse at his breast. ♥️💯

In my Vet Assistant/Technician classes, our instructor helped us memorize cranial nerves by the phrase, "Oh Oh Oh, To Touch And Feel Very Gross Vomit Around Here." 😅🤮
Can you still have a social life while in vet school? My mood is shifted a large amount by having a social life. Do you have the time though?
